Ati, this analysis of the spider cluster release and the monster cluster bursting out is wonderful. I can't wait for the prequel novelization to come out this month.

Blackwinter-witch I loved the Star Trek reboot but thought it lost steam immediately after that.

FANTASTIC!! I re-watched it about 5 times and loved every second of it!! For some reason I don't get a comment-box on youtube, so wanted to post here to make sure you knew how much I enjoyed this episode. :)
I really love these episodes, they kick-off/spark all sorts of ideas in my head for potential stories based off them, and/or ways I can include them in my works as a genuine Nod of respect and acknowledgement! :)

I like the upgrade to scampering-neomorph at the opening-creds bit also!

I Moon Girl, you ask the best questions. Thank you so very much.

Michael Bishop was born in 2127 and he took this hit in 2179 (age 52).

"He was a strong proponent of the human enhancement...bone strength plating, circulatory nano upgrades..."

Weyland-Yutani Report, page 139.

The upgrades Michael Bishop adopted to his human body is the reason he was able to survive that hit and then still try to plead with Ellen Ripley.

As for franchises, I've never been all that much into Superheroes, I grew up on Mystery In Space comics and things like that, as well as Star Wars.

Star Trek, aside from Classic and some absolutely splendid fan-productions, I've walked away from.
Paramount has diddled away it's big reboot, and I absolutely will NOT watch ST: Discovery, and am looking fwd to seeing The Orville kick it to the curb.

The ALIENverse is where I live, and no matter what FOX does theres the Fanbase and it's works as well as PROMETHEUS and ALIEN for me to always come back to. I have to say ALIEN: Covenant wasn't that bad, and I did enjoy it.

The superheroes can have Earth, and keep bashing each other over the head. I live out amongst the cold and silent darkness between the stars, where no one can hear you scream and there's all manner of Interesting and Big Questions, which come with chilling answers. ;)

Look how far his ear is hanging off of his head!  He did grunt a little in pain a couple of times, but I would be expecting a lot more if that injury is as bad as it looks.

So, to explain the red blood.  What if he is a droid with a human brain in it?  That would explain why he looks the same age as the android he made and would also explain why there is blood in him.  The brain needs blood to function.  So, with this, we can explain why he bleeds red blood, looks exactly like a Bishop android that he apparently created yet doesn't look any older than, and it would explain why he isn't in much pain.  Those grunts could just be him angry at the fact that his face got messed up.  I'd be made about that too.  So, he's an advanced droid.  I'm not saying I believe this, but this is an explanation to me.

I would think if he was human, that hit would have knocked him unconscious.

Cool. I can't wait for more. One thing I would like to see in an animated version of the lost/unmade Xenomorph vs Neomorph scene.

The "mistaken" solder then replies, "Sorry, sir."

Elgyn then fires back, "What do you think we're going to hijack the vessel?  All six of us?" (Elgyn couldn't resist being a smarta$$.  He just couldn't let something like this slide by without him knowing exactly what the military is thinking.  After all, they work for the government.  It's good push a few of their buttons, then you can figure out where you can stand and what they got on you, if anything.  You can only trust them only as far as the button goes down.)

sherris - Yes, the quantity is an important factor here. According to the source, Holloway and Fifield suffer the same mutation, but Holloway consumes only one drop, so he mutates very slowly.

i still support the one goo theory.

Where one goo / pathogen exists and has various outcomes depending on host type (an Engineer and human may reract differently under the same comditions) -  amount of goo - ingested area

However, only the one pathogen with the strength to wipe out all non botanical life on a planet if sufficient amount of the patgogen is dropped into the mix

I accept the explanations shared by the source article, so I think that clusters of parasites are leaving the Engineer bodies in the movie stills - not black goo. Ok, they look similar but they are different.

@Ati - "His script was rewritten, it is pointless to investigate every idea emerging before the creation of the final product since you'll find thousands of different and contradictory elements."

You were the one who brought up the Holloway chest burster concept art from the original script :)

I would not call it pointless. It is actually very useful in determining the intent is many cases, and in others not. In the case of the trilobite, it is very clear the intent was that Shaw was impregnated by Holloway, in the traditional sense. Here is another quote explicitly stating that from Lindeloff.

"I think this scene is going to be even more upsetting and disturbing if it plays into the fertility and sexual aspects of the "Alien" universe. So things were rejiggered so that Holloway eventually impregnates Shaw, who is infertile, with his now enhanced or corrupted, depending on which way you look at it — I won't confirm either here — DNA, so this is literally a fetus. It's a child. The fact that she is pregnant was what I brought to it, and that was my story contribution to that sequence." - Damon Lindelof

Here is a quote from Neil Scanlan, basically saying the same thing. He and his team designed the trilobite.

"Holloway is infected. He then impregnates Shaw. From that, Shaw then gives birth - in a sense - to what we called the medpod creature, which was  extracted through from her stomach. That then grows into the trilobite."

This image show the three stages of Hollway's infection. Stage 1 was not used, I think, because the mirror scene effectively showed us a worm parasite already.

I think the worm parasites are simply a DNA mutation, or a mutation of one of the hundreds of micro organism that live in or on the human body already. There are several species of eye worm parasite. There is also a very common worm that lives in eye lids and on eye lashes called a Demodex folliculitis. The rest of Holloway's symptoms were from the pathogen altering his DNA and breaking down his cells, or the process of transmuting him into something else, which is what happened to his sperm.

Anyway, that is my take on it, based on the available info.

druceaAlien: Covenant ForumThe Original Chestburster May Have Existed In A:C

Great post.  To me the drawing looks exactly like the original chestburster, with no arms, and more like a snake that has it's heads raised up (when the original one took a look at the people, then scurried away real quick).  The chestburster in A:C started off looking the same when it emerged, but then it stood up and stretched out it's limbs.  Although we also didn't get to see the original Alien burster more than a few seconds before it came back as a larger creature.

Thnaks for this post though, I like coming back to see new aspects of David's drawings people are noticing.

The image you are referring to is labeled "Ladies" (I wonder what relevance that term has). When you see the A:C chestburster he looks like the original for a second before unfolding like an umbrella, maybe it looks like this as it's being created or this is David's ultimate design that he has yet to realize? Note the gestation speed and the lack of human test subjects. Hopefully the next film sheds light on this but as of now David created the Xenomorph we know as Covenant is the first canonical appearance of the beast in this franchises history.

I found the black goo popping out of them very interesting.  This goes back to the fact that there are many "different" strains of the goo-

Yeah, it's the real thing. David appears to be giving these things Latin names incorporating Palpigradi (a class of arachnid) and Crustacea (shrimps to you and me).

Whilst I love the Star Wars and Mad Max franchises too, ALIEN remains my first love. Not the Franchise, just ALIEN alone, it never needed a sequel.

I have come to despise ALIENS, I just can't watch it anymore! I do enjoy A L I E N 3. As yet, there's still nothing that can topple ALIEN.

PROMETHEUS comes close and I have found myself watching it more and more since A:C's release. I now view it as a one off. It's unique, weird and fascinating. A strange trip which will never be fully explained. Given that the direction it took appears to have been all but abandoned, I treasure it now!

ALIEN: COVENANT still needs time to settle in with me. Once we have the Blu-ray (with download) here in the UK, I'll be viewing it multiple times.
