Big Chap / Xenomorph connection to Alien (1979)
In March of 2024, we exclusively leaked information about Alien: Romulus and one of its major connections to Ridley Scott's original 1979 original Alien. We learned that the film will involve a scene showing the recovery of the original Big Chap Xenomorph from the first Alien movie - the one which was jettisoned out of the airlock by Ellen Ripley at the end of the first movie.
In Alien: Romulus - the Big Chap Xenomorph is recovered and it is later learned that the Weyland-Yutani Renaissance Station conducted experiments on the Alien in hopes of using its DNA to fuel medical research.
Hyperdyne Systems Android connection to Alien (1979)
Another Alien: Romulus plot leak earlier this year revealed that the film would include another connection to Ridley Scott's 1979 original in the form of a Hyperdyne Systems Android - the same 120/A-2 portrayed by the late actor Ian Holm in the original film. According to fansite AvPGalaxy who revealed the leak:
Alien: Romulus will also feature another huge connection to the original Alien film in the way of the inclusion of the previously mentioned Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2. Named Rook, this new synthetic character features the likeness and voice of the late Sir Ian Holm (augmented by AI).
Alien: Romulus connection to Prometheus (2012)
Another leak provided earlier this year confirmed Alien: Romulus will contain a subtle link to Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus as well. Dubbed the Prometheus Strain - it will be revealed that in Alien: Romulus the previously mentioned Hyperdyne Systems Android on board the Renaissance Station was able to reverse-engineer the DNA found inside the Big Chap Xenomorph and extract Black Goo technology - very akin to the Black Goo bio-former seen in Urns in Prometheus inside the Engineer installation on LV-223.
The black goo (or accelerant as it is known in the expanded universe) is making a return in the film. A Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 model android was able to discover and reverse engineer the genetic makeup of the black goo contained within the DNA of the Aliens that had been captive aboard the spacestation. Known in Alien: Romulus as the Prometheus Strain, the scientists had been experimenting with the black goo as a miracle cure for all diseases.
New Hybrid Alien Creature - The Offspring
It is later discovered that the Black Goo accelerant derived from the recovered Big Chap Xenomorph on board the station was used to pursue advancements in medical research. It was found that the Black Goo could repair damaged DNA at an accelerated pace leading to superhuman like healing powers. The company had reverse engineered the pathogen accelerant from Big Chap and synthesized viles of Black Goo for administration.
Near the end of the film, Isabela Merced's character Kay injects herself with one of these viles in an attempt to save herself and the baby she's pregnant with after she had been impaled but not killed by the Xenomorph earlier in the film. Instead of healing her wounds the Black Goo transforms her Human embryo into a Hybridized Alien / Engineer abomination known as the Offspring.
This bizarre creature grows at an alarming pace and features extremely long limbs and spine, sports a blend of Xenomorph-like Biomechanic aesthetic as well as the white skin / dark eyes appearance of the Engineers seen in Prometheus. It also sports a second mouth, much like the Xenomorph as well.
