Yes, I'm seeing who is going to be in that area on the 21st. If anyone will be there, please contact me directly at: info@prometheus-movie.com. I'm sure someone here will be in that area and will be attending.

Now we know from the Icelandic press that the stars of Prometheus are there for filming. OK so we know thats 30 years pre-Alien. Also we know that Iceland will represent earth in it's early formation. Hmmm.. Anyone else confused? Read for yourself. http://feeds.mbl.is/frettir/innlent/2011/07/11/uppruni_geimvera_a_islandi/ Google translate this page. It ain't perfect but good enough.

I wonder what science will be used to explain how fast Prometheus will travel to get to whatever star system she travels to, to visit the space jockey race. Here is a wild quote from a website explaining time dilation. "If we continue to accelerate to 0.99999999999999 c, for every day on board, nearly twenty thousand years pass for the observer at rest," (on earth) Add 1 more 9 to that speed and time dilation jumps to over 60,000 years. Prometheus is only 30 years pre-Alien so.......

What are “they” doing to my “ALIEN”? What is “PROMETHEUS” going to do…to either FRACK-up the ALIEN Universe or redeem it? I don’t know…seems like nobody else does either. Why does everyone seem to think that “the Alien” (creature) would be this unstoppable force…or the perfect biological weapon? As much as I’ve loved the original since ’79 (I was 12 years old), the creature didn’t do much more than a hungry lion, tiger or bear from planet earth. Other than forced insemination and acid for blood, the Alien creature wasn’t really any more dangerous than terrestrial predators. So, to me…this idea of the Space Jockey(s) genetically engineering and or using the Alien creatures to “Clean” or a prepare a planet for potential “Terra-forming” (actually it wouldn’t be not be Terra-forming…maybe just atmosphere processing) seems pretty lame. Am I missing something? Don’t get me wrong, “ALIEN” is one of my favorite films eva…BUT, all four of the Alien film stories thus far have severely handicapped the human characters with fairly feeble…or no weapons. Moreover, the stories have all located the characters in enclosed locales with very limited space and movement…like any good haunted house story should. I hate to say it but, the alien nemesis in stories like H.G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” or even the cornball “Independence Day” seem more globally lethal on a planetary level…than the Alien(s). The extra-terrestrials in those films could generate technology, weapons, interstellar travel, and coordinate attacks on a massive level. The fact is that the original “ALIEN” film is a “B” monster movie story…made with “A” level production values. It was crafted by great artists, which elevated a film once titled “STAR BEAST”, to a masterpiece of fiction…and a cracklin’ good yarn along the way. A film that has been called “Ten Little Indians In Space”…ALIEN is perfect film…a perfect thing...to me...like Michelangelo's "David." So once again I ask “What are “they” doing with my ALIEN?” I hope they are doing it proud. Many of the “Prometheus” plotline rumors seem a bit preachy and self-important to me. This whole hyper-genetic, “building blocks of life” theme gets on my nerves, and feels very George Lucas“ish” to me. Hopefully, “midichlorians” will not be introduced. As I’ve posted before…I like to imagine that the Alien is not just some genetically engineered aberration. But, that a God almighty created the seemingly hostile “Alien”…as He created the Black Widow, King Cobra, or Lucifer…for His own mysterious and divine reasons. I just hope the new film is excellent and doesn’t try to explain away our universe and life itself with didactic agendas. ~Neurion

Your comparison of the alien to a hungry lion shows how diluted the alien franchise has become. Thats why Prometheus aspires to be an original story but still within the alien universe. Was 2001 preachy?

Here are some quotes: Scott promises a "really tough, really nasty" film that involves gods and engineers of space. Lindelof: "I’ve always felt that really good prequels should be original movies," and the sequels to those prequels should not be the movie which already exists. …(Thats how we know the derelict ship and LV426 are not what Prometheus leads up to or ends with) "Show me something else which I can’t guess the possible outcome of. There is no suspense in inevitability." "So a true prequel should essentially proceed the events of the original film, but be about something entirely different, feature different characters, have an entirely different theme, although it takes place in that same world." So it could be as simple as a shipboard accident and a beacon that could be either an sos or a warning. Mother wasn't definite. It's interesting but It just doesn't matter.

Astromax, Whether or not “2001” was preachy…I don’t know. I guess it depends on one’s perspective and set of values. Personally, I think it was at bare minimum…intentionally very cryptic and shrouded with vagueness and ambiguity. I like that quality in the film. I wouldn’t mind seeing the makers of “PROMETHEUS” follow that lead or path with the new prequel. As far as “2001” being preachy? I wouldn’t use that word. Maybe “presumptuous”…or perhaps the other way…”dismissive”, in regard to traditional human beliefs or theories regarding creation, origins, and adaptation of Earthly or universal “Life”. Personally, I doubt that non-divine, extra-terrestrials had anything to do with human development…but that’s just me…and probably about 97.5 percent of the world’s population as well. As far as a “true prequel” is concerned, the so called word “prequel” is a slangy corruption of the actual word “sequel.” The word “prequel” didn’t even exist until the early 1970s. So, a true prequel?…your guess is as good as mine. I think any definition is going to be fairly loose. I just hope that it’s a great film. Peace, Neurion

Fassbender says the first 2 thirds of the flic are the intelligence and the final third is the action. So, whe're not going to see Brett early walking the corridors saying, "meowow, here kitty kitty". That tension was insane. It made people in the audience sick, literally. But Ridley says it will be tough and nasty. I for one believe him. Can't wait!!!

I just hope it doesn't have a pg 13 rating. That would kill the vibe, horror movies are for adults and so is the entire alien franchise. People like to feel real life emotions when it comes to horror meaning adults saying and doing real things when shit hits the fan, and monsters making a mess, cause thats what monsters do, i mean with moderation of course. Remember it was the chest bursting scene from alien that got millions of people on the edge of their seats. The alien transforming while the team of scientist struggled to survive their own chaos, these are the points of great horror a combination of gore and suspense. If the space jockeys made aliens predators or whatever else they obviously have some form of edge to them so they should be scene as scary dark architects masterminds of the universe, yet still vulnerable to chance, fate, as in they are still creatures created by the creator just real smart with genetics. peace.

hey new to the forum so...HI! just joined to keep up to date with all the new on the film as I am a huge Alien geek. My hopes for the film I guess are all in the atmosphere and look of the movie. I don't want it to look too polished or new does that make sense? I heard a rumour Fassbender was playing an android has that been touched on? Interested in what angle they are coming from with this movie if we have earth-humans and androids but its not a direct prequel...over all very excited !!

Just thought it would be fun to look at the first thread on this web site. New post on an old topic lol. I think this film will be great! Time has really gone by since this was first posted. It is fun too, to see some of the old "first images" and the old "beckon, hidden code" on the Weyland page. I know I am lame. lol

Funny story, Because of this film I cannot help myself and for almost 2 years since I first heard their was a chance of this happening I have been obsessing about seeing it. Along the way I learned a heck of a lot, mostly from other people here but also from being inspired by almost every other one of YOU ALL here and to go on and do research online and in a library even on so many related topics to the film. I got back into GIGER and his Necronomicon and also In studying some Ancient Earth Art after watching many many episodes, all of them to date in fact of the TV series "Ancient Aliens"...I came across this picture, and since I have seen it all I can think of is how much the character on the right hand side resembles or just makes me think immediately of...STIMPY from WREN & STIMPY!!! Bringing this thread back to life - as some of us are a mere 4 days away from the premiere! Hard to believe this thread was started about a year ago. Let's look back and see what we thought about Prometheus back then to what we think now! And what we will think in 4 - 12 days! Personally, I'm more excited now than I was at the time of starting this thread for Prometheus! Share your thoughts on Prometheus here!

I loved it, really glad I spent the extra money for the IMAX tickets, absoulutly amazing. Only one complaint could've used another half hour or even an hour of more film, still amazing, and easily better then most of the movies out now. IMO

I was thoroughly entertained. Enjoyed it quite heavily. I think that it will stand the test of time and grow on people as they understand it more, much like Blade Runner. This is easily the top sci-fi film to hit the big screen in years.

Took me a week to see it but my hopes had already been dashed long before its UK release. Handsome tosh, a rung or two above the recent 'Thing' film. The ultra-secrecy followed by the splurge of tell-all marketing helps make me wonder if these people have a clue. If this is the best they can come up with after all that money, time, input, hype/secrecy, no wonder they need to lean on gimmicks like 3D. Fassbender was very good but the film whose potential outlines and caverns could be discerned in this forum was miles better.

@Neurion Same with me. I'd never wanna see an Alien homeworld either. I don't think there should be one either. I'd be more happy seeing the Engineer's homeworld, and would want to learn more about the beings in the huge circular craft in the opening of the movie. (if at all they are beings different from the Engineer himself.)

Well I think that the Aliens are bio engineered creatures, bio weapons of mass destruction. The SJ's created them as a part of their bio weapons divisions programmed to cleanse the sentient life forms of any habitable planet so that they can later reach that planet and do whatever they want...

To, me the "Alien" species are "designed" by the "engineers", so there is no alien "homeplanet", just a laboratory where they where designed. As the end of Prometheus, they even have not been "designed", but maybe they were created "by accident". I am even not sure if the tall white muscle-guys seen in Prometheus are the "engineers". I rather believe they are just a very small part of a "unknown extraterrestrian culture" and they seem to be "designed worriors". I dont think life engineers need that muscles. They look like clones to me and are created for a purpose - to win wars and to get orders. So they are like soldiers. We may find out lot more about this "yet unknown culture who made the engineers, the aliens and maybe even mankind" in the sequels. I am only not really sure if Lindelof is the right man for the job. As we learned from LOST he plays with the people by opening doors but behind the door there are even more questions, but no answers. Maybe the audience will play that game for a while - but when you did understand his "storytelling strategy" you will understand that you will never get the answers you hunger for. Lindelof is like a dealer who sells drugz, but they never deliver. Makes you addicted, but never comes a "satisfaction feeling". That was the LOST concept.

Absolutely loved it, but with caveats. The first half/two-acts provide such amazing viewing that it makes it all the worse that the last act devolves into a muddled, monster movie. A few of the directorial choices anger me and Rapaci is a weak lead. Still fucking loved it, though. Improved with a second viewing, too. Can't wait to go back for a third after my exams.

Spaceyfreak wrote - "Lindelof is like a dealer who sells drugz, but they never deliver. Makes you addicted, but never comes a "satisfaction feeling". That was the LOST concept." Beautifully put. If he does have a fully-worked-out back-story for all this then P2 will likely just throw a bit more glittering silica in our eyes.

Well I've seen it three times, basically to confirm my original thoughts on it which were: Theme - great. Pacing - way, way too rushed in first half, many poignant shots barely held for a second etc, no chance of building an immersive atmosphere or being given time to absorb/think about what's going on. Script/characters - horribly lowbrow at times and smothers the higher themes. Acting - superb turns by Fassbender AND Rapace; these two save the movie from being a disaster IMO. I think I'm in love with Shaw/Rapace. First 10-15 minutes: Sublime. LOVED the Lawrence of Arabia tie-in, most appropriate for the film/David and one of my childhood fave movies. Editing: OK, here goes ... Clearly the worst edited movie I've ever seen on the big screen. Absolutely butchered. I would expect a bare minimum of 10-15 minutes has been lost but could be 45 minutes easily. Missing scenes are obvious from the point at which the movie dives into a complete mess immediately following the fabulous caesarean scene being interspliced with (and hence ruined by) THAT zombie scene, a hacked Weyland scene and the *excruciatingly* jarring exposition of WMD etc by Janek to Shaw following an apparently missing scene with Janek and Vickers. The movie, in pure filmmaking, narrative/storytelling terms is lost from here ... This is/was a very important movie to me being an Alien nut, hence the multiple revisits to confirm just WTF I was seeing/hearing and I can't tell you how disappointed I am. One can only hope that most/all of what they shot will one day make it into the Bluray as this could be a great movie but it's very, very clear that a large portion of what they shot didn't make it past the editing suite, presumably on orders of the Fox suits who I utterly despise for trashing this ...

I love every minute of it until Janek decides to ram into Juggernaut, and the silly 3-way fight between Shaw, the misunderstood Engineer, and the silly looking prop from MEN IN BLACK 3. I SERIOUSLY THINK SOMEONE OR SOME PEOPLE AT FOX WANTED TO SABOTAGE THIS MOVIE.

I loved this movie. I've seen it twice so far and will probably watch it again. It's entertaining on it's face, but the deeper themes (relationships between creation or creators, ruins after the rise and fall of greatness) are like a puzzle you have to piece together. The tag line of this film should have been, "What if God changed His mind."

You ask "what if god changed his mind". I ask.. What if AUDIENCE changes its mind and does not want to follow Lindelof - the Riddler - miracles and he can watch the sequels on his own as nobody is interested in 2 hours "LOST-SPECULATIONS"?

Does anyone else think the big things have small beginning theme is an in-joke about the whole franchise? I mean, it all started as a jaws in space, b movie, etc but has somehow developed its own mythology and stoked so many debates.?? Personally, loved it. Think we'll see it very differently in years to come.

I was kinda disappointed with it. It was a good movie but a lot of the actual really good plot devices seemed to have been dumbed down for a mainstream audience. The movie should had had a lot more tension like the original Alien. It also had a lot of really unrealistic elements like the scientists exposing themselves to alien bio material ("Ya theres air in here lets open our suits") and just the magnitude of real evidence of alien contact being not that big of a morale dilemma for most of the crew. Forgive me if I am wrong since I'm not sure if at this point humans from earth may have already discovered other lifeforms in space, but if this was first contact it would be huge.

I think the main thing that disapointed was that the movie had a lot of hype and when its also in the shadow of Alien and Blade Runner like the Thing prequel was with the orginal, you have a very high bar to attempt to match. I think some was thinking this movie lacked the Horror/Thriller aspect of Alien, but you have to remember the scenerio was different and people should not have tried to compare the horror elements with Alien but more look at it with Alien 3 or Aliens etc... Because the first encounter was iconic... what i mean is look at the Gore and Death in the Thing 2011 there was a lot, but after you saw the Orginal Thing, then the newer movie does not have the same shock value, yet it has simular kinds of scenes. To me i think the Shaws C-Section was thrilling, not so much to me because i dont scare easy and we saw it in Trailers and discussed it a lot, but to people who never saw or analysed the trailers i think that scene would have been tence and have the effect Ridley wanted... But you just are not going to match the Orginal Chest Buster Scene... from Alien... i mean we seen enough Chest Busters since in all Alien movies and they never have that same effect.... To me i felt the movies plot was great and it needed longer than 2 hours to tell, thus the first hour went by fine, but after Shaw and Holloways intimate scene the rest of the movie seemed to be rushed as if the 2nd hour really needed 2 more hours to tell the story in more depth.... So yes its going to be a disapointment compared to Alien but thats because Alien was a classic film, a rare movie.... Ridley could have done Alien 5 or you could have got the two best directors in the World and a $300 Budget and you would still find it very tough to better Alien..... But if you take the movie on its own merits then its not bad, its actually a good movie with some flaws but the potential is there for Prometheus 2 and 3 etc....
