Alien3 "reboot"?

I'm new here. Not sure if this has been discussed here before, but here goes:
I'm a long-time fan of Alien, Aliens & xenomorphs in general. I love Alien & Aliens, but was disappointed with Alien3. I didn't hate it though.
Has there ever been serious discussion of an Alien3 "reboot"? I think it was a damn shame how they killed of Hicks & Newt so carelessly. It wouldn't be the same without the same actors, but I think they could pull it off.
What are your opinions?

im just so glad they didnt go with the wooden planet script, even though alot of the sets were designed for it. if you didnt read any of that crap, wow. if you thought alien 3 was bad, damn. it would have evicerated the series, but the scene with the toilet was kinda cool

Very nice Ripley Clone. I like all 4 films in the series for different reasons. Most of which mirror your points. I just get very irritated at the whole lazy "suck" mentality that invaded pop culture in the 80s. Everybody has a right to like whatever they want, but if they are going on forums to bash things I feel it is only right to give reasons why and not just try to add negativity to the subject at hand.

@MindBender. Thanks man!! I hate it too. A majority of people out there just say they suck without giving ANYKIND of justifiable reason as to why. And to be flat out honest I think its bullshit.
Alien 3 is a very dark and emotionally powerful film. You "feel" for Ripley and all the terrors she has overcome. "You've been in my life so long...I can't remember anything else." Ripley was facing hell. The fact she had an Alien queen inside her and her final solution was to face death itself was just one bold intense aspect of the film. Thats one thing I loved about it was the dark greasy smell of death. The true grittiness these characters encounter.

You don't care about anything else but Ripley destroying this nightmare that has suppressed her normal life for decades. Charles S. Dutton was fabulous in this film as Dylan. One of the most powerful characters in this series. Charles Dance was that guy you hoped would help Ripley through the end. He wasn't only a friend but that small and final love interest Ripley embraces. Ripley- "Are you attracted to me..." Clemens- "In what way." Ripley- "In that way." Clemens- "Your very direct.." Ripley- "I've been out here a long time."

What I ultimatley loved about Alien 3 was this sense that Ripley was "finished." She has finally owned up to all the deaths she's faced and takes a stand with her own life. It was meaningful and the story was real. I just don't understand why people hate it either?
Alien Resurrection was fucking epic. I thought Ripley being partially an Alien herself was fucking badass. If you look at it, each film inches closer to the human body. And finally in Alien Resurrection Ripley bonds with the Alien gene which creates a whole new Ripley.

The action scenes were fun, dark and intense. It was radically different which I loved. It was 200 years in the future and Ripley was a heroine within an Alien body. She was different yet very mysterious and thats what I think molded her dark romantic personality.

The past she has fought off and won over is done with but now she has embraced it and it has become part of her. I think that was moving yet intriguing. The film really revolves around the idea of trying to bring someone back from the dead and how they treat the world around them after already having a long lost distant past.

The deleted scenes also tell a story of there own. Ripley looks at a picture of a young girl in the scene during her Medical Examination and begins to break down, as it reminds her of Newt from Aliens. Then in the chapel Call -"I couldn't watch them annihilate themselves...do you understand that?" Ripley-"I did once....I tried to save...people..it didn't work out...there was this girl...she had bad dreams...I tried to help her... she died....and now I can't even remember her name."

There's many references to Newt from Aliens. I think it was sad and heart wrenching. You knew she remembered Newt, she just couldn't remember her name but she could remember her as "the girl." The reference at the beginning of the film. "My mommy always said there were no monsters...no real ones.....but there are." And then you see Ripley 8 go from a little girl to an adult. I thought little references like that were amazing and they really added to the characterization and story of the film.

There's more to these films then people realize and to be honest I will never know why people don't like them but I guess its just the ignorance and high criticism that drives these people to dislike the films.

Once again, awesome analysis. Proving to me you are good "people". Haha I get deeply entrenched in the films I love (as well as music) but I am much better at talking points of films than typing them out but you and I can hang any day. Great job in defending these films.

Ripley Clone 8January 18, 2012
@MindBender Thank You! I really appreciate MindBender. I'm happy to know that you appreciate these films as much as I do. Not many people do...unfortunately. haha I call the people who are only fans of Alien and Aliens "Half-Assed Alien fans". They forgot the other half lol.

Game Over Man!January 18, 2012
I loved ALIEN, I loved ALIENS, I liked ALIEN 3, I was indifferent with ALIEN Res. The end of Alien Res didnt mesh well with me, I hated the cross-breed xeno thing. Im sorry I laughed at it. It wimpered like a child and killed like a ruthless monster, wtf. Ive mentioned this before, the scene where the scientist is cocooned and doing goo goo baby talk to the xeno thing and calling it a beautiful butterfly and saying come here come here. The thing climbs up there all innocent and then bites his head off, i busted out laughing!
I get people aren't going to like ALIENS for their reasons, but man I thought it was an awesome movie! I dont really get why people say cameron dumbed them down to "bugs"? Give examples of why you state this, im not arguing i just would like to know why? If you are insinuating that just because they come at the marines with reckless abandon then that is not how I see it. What I see in ALIEN is a single xeno being sneaky and covert trying to survive and in the process get numbers on his side, hence the nest it was starting. In ALIENS you see what happened once they got a nest started and started out numbering the hosts. I see strength in numbers the reason they come at them with reckless abandon and feel no threat.
Another thing I read was that it took 3 or 4 bullets to kill them. Well there is nothing in ALIEN that lead me to believe that xeno was all powerful either. I mean if Ripley's little harpoon gun could penetrate the xeno in ALIEN im sure bullets could do it damage as well. Just my thoughts

Ripley Clone 8January 18, 2012
I couldn't agree more Game Over Man. I hear some people complain about Aliens. Aliens was a action packed, heart pouding thrill ride. What the fuck are some people saying lol honestly. Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection tend to get the most criticism but Aliens does get its share of criticism from time to time. The thing is, is that every film is different and its unique on its on take. Honestly EVERY film in the series is worth the watch, they are all fucking awesome and epic and have something to say in their own way. Honestly the people who think differently just UGH...idk man. People like that bother the shit out of me.

if you do to alien 3 what the creators of highlander 2 did for their remake, it would be awesome. there's so much you could do, just dont george lucas it. on its on it is its own movie, so dont take away from its foundation. alien res is in the same boat. if it aint broke, dont fix the some bitch
Game Over Man!January 18, 2012
It is nice when you have people backing you Ripley Clone 8. But on the other side of the spectrum the others feel justified as well because they have others that share their opinions. That is what makes discussions like this so awesome. You get to see others points of view on things, which gives you insight to what they are thinking and why they feel the way they do. Whether you agree or not. Which makes for some dog gone good debate. :) Which can be fun when done in an adult manner(no name calling. :) But we are human and the defensive nature will come out from time to time. :)

Ripley Clone 8January 18, 2012
Oh totally I understand. Thats completley true. Its just the people who shove their opinions in peoples faces and shut down any other opinion people have that drive me nuts. The reason why I say that is because Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection do get A LOT of hate from people and as a fan of the whole series I have a deep passion for each film. I'm not knocking down people's opinions but there's nothing wrong with defending your opinion in a polite manner. But I totally agree with you!

so very true game over. we are entilteld to our opinions as fans. but it also give some fans the chance to open their minds up to all posibilities. just remember we all have one thing in common, we are fans of this great mythology. and like the old vikings to their norse mythology, we want our god to kick all the other god's ass

deadcellJanuary 18, 2012
and just to be a little rebellious, im going to watch my copy of alien 3 the directors cut from the quadrilogy
Game Over Man!January 18, 2012
Well I am an honest person and have been one of the posters to say the AVP movies are downers. I say that because they are really far fetched and dont really relate well with the Alien movies. As I said I have mixed emotions about Alien Res, there are things I liked about it and as I said the end of alien res stunk it up. :) But I do own every dvd that features a xeno and that includes the AVP movies. :)

Ripley Clone 8January 18, 2012
Nice same here :) I got the Alien Anthology with my blu-ray player along with the my 55' LED Samsung TV. The Alien movies are glorious on this tv.

deadcellJanuary 18, 2012
so do i game over. i will admit that. but when i decide to watch any avp, i just forget the plot and concentrate on the action. its like drinking moonshine, harsh on the way down, but gets the job done when in doubt. res wasnt that bad, just kind of disapointed with the hybrid. the death was awesome, but still it kind of made me think of a big nasty puppy lol

deadcellJanuary 18, 2012
kick freakin ass ripleyclone. did you ever see the alternate ending for res, its makes a bit of sence.

Ripley Clone 8January 18, 2012
Yeah! I saw that dude. I actually uploaded that scene to Youtube. I thought it was pretty epic. Seeing Paris in ruins like that. Makes you wonder.

true, one thing missing though. i would have had an orange cat like jonesy walk by and kind of nestle up to ripley. just kind of a shout out to the true last survivor of the nostromo
Game Over Man!January 18, 2012
Im just catching up to the new world. I got a blu-ray for christmas....now I have to get all my alien movies in blu-ray lol. A 55' that would be sweet to watch some xenos in action. Deadcell i am the same way sometimes I will just have an alien movie night each day of the week. Which will sometimes lead to the AVP movies. I just watch them for the action as well. Alien Res I could watch maybe once every 6months. Alien 3 I may watch that a handfull of times a year. But damn... I could watch Alien and Aliens every freakn night!!!!

deadcellJanuary 19, 2012
yeah, thats why im intimidated to get a blu ray player, ive got so many kick ass dvds, i dont want to reinvest all that money lol. plus, i have to admit, i get a kick out of watching the old vhs lol

Ripley Clone 8January 19, 2012
lol. I watch every film every week. I freakin love the Alien films. ehh AVP movies not so much lol. I act like they don't exist. I have the Alien Anthology on blu-ray and Game Over Man if you have a blu-ray player it is definitely worth your time. The quality is freakin amazing. But remember if you want your blu-ray player to serve you REAL justice you should get a LED tv, preferably Samsung. Since Samsung does create the best quality tv's out there. But yeah bro, you NEED to get the anthology if you don't have it. And Deadcell it would be kickass if you got a blu-ray player man. There a lot cheaper now and it definetally worth your money.

will definatley take that into cosideration. just wish they had more fans like us on this mountain ripleyclone. would love to have a weekly alien viewing instead of football lol
Game Over Man!January 19, 2012
Yes I will look into purchasing the Anthology. Deadcell you dont technically have to rebuy all your dvds. The blu-ray will play regular dvds too. But if you want the ultra crystal clear quality you need to buy the blu-ray dvds for your favorites. I do have a Samsung and it is really sweet!

Ripley Clone 8January 19, 2012
lol that would be fucking sick as hell bro!! My eyes would be glued to the tv every week. We need more fans like us man!

Game Over Man!January 19, 2012
Come on Deadcell couldn't the Alien viewing and Football co-exist...lol. Have to admit Im a total sports junky as well. Or we could just have Alien football! Throw the flag for excessive face hugging!

There is huge difference between ALIEN & ALIENS in terms of tone and filmmaking aesthetics.
ALIENS as directed by James Cameron is standard screenwriting 101. Now I am not saying that it has poor storytelling skills. On the contrary, ALIENS is one of the greatest survivalist action movies ever made. Ripley has a backstory, how she longs for her dead daughter, and she gets it in the form of Newt. In Scott's ALIEN, we don't know about the crew of the Nostromo. They are very well portrayed by the actors but they merely form a collective human presence in opposition to the Xeno. ALIENS has Ripley front center as the subject of the movie. ALIEN is much more emotionally distant, but also much more skillful in portraying an alien world, creating suspense through shadow-play photography & clever editing, and double-billed with PROMETHEUS is much more epic in scope.

F--- it - lets go for it!January 19, 2012
this thread morphed into aliens vs alien3 !!!!
im pro -alien 3 too but not to the detriment of the other films.
i also think its an age thing, aliens for example is easy to access and being considered an action flick,(one of the best by the way) you can just switch off your brain for a couple of hours. Alien 3 is a different beast entirely - its been well appraised on previous threads.
i love the fact a lot of people dont its like it partly because they dont get it. better to be loved by a few than liked by a lot. This is the best thread ive read on the matter, some good arguements and some....well lets just say limited.
Most of us have been watching these movies for a long time now and the images and ideas have permeated our minds.
rest assured prometheus will deliver, this is ridleys genre.

Bacon BoyJanuary 19, 2012
Hey guys im new here!
@mind bender
Ok, so you said the xenos were redused to ants and could easily be killed with a few bullets. think about it. it makes seance because in aliens, they have rifles and mimi guns, making them easier to kill. but in alien, they didnt have guns (and if they did they didnt use them) and no human had ever encountered the xenos. it all makes seance.
Alien: no weapons or experience
Aliens: experience and weapons plus military training
that is my opinion.

SpartacusJanuary 19, 2012
i agree with everyone that said they did not like 3 or Resurrection for what ever the reasons, there were lots of things in both movies I did not like myself , but in both there were also lots of things I truly thought were great and original and thought provoking.I Thought the tunnel kills were filmed so cool in 3 and we even saw one with amazing clarity of blood from above and another as the camera dida twirling 360 as it moved forward through the tunnel in "Aliens Eye View" and we had some remarkable work done with animatronics in 3 and I also thought the fact we learned "They Swim" and John Frizzel's score were both such wonderful Little touch type things in Resurrection. I loved the interplay between Johner and Ripley and the Betty and the Guns on your arms and I absolutely loved the way they drank their scotch!

Bacon BoyJanuary 19, 2012
alien 3 was my least favorite. but there was good things about it. when you got to see the aliens view, it was pretty cool! the way ripley fearlessly jumped off that ledge and killed herself as the alien bursted out of he chest. cool!
MY opinion of the order of alien movies:
1: aliens
2: alien
3: alien res.
4: alien 3

Ripley Clone 8January 19, 2012
I agree with everybody who thought Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were great films and could embrace them as much as the the first 2 films. I know I do. I love all the films.

Tromatizer, I remember having those comics, they were great.
I dont think there is any need to reboot 3. Its over guys...
Anyhow its too late Michael Bein (spelling) is now in his 50's and as for Newt, forget it, Sigorney looks great but unno... and anyhow if it was re cast then all the 3 purists would complain about that so it aint going to happen.
Why not simply create a kickass Alien 5 written and directed by Ridley, Rated R, and keep the studio execs right out of it!
