As you know I attended the world premiere of Alien: Covenant yesterday. My full review I will post later but here is a brief run down of my first impressions...

The film is very much Alien. With having some nods to Prometheus it definitely leans more on the Alien / Aliens side of the mythology. However, while being an Alien focused sequel, the story is really about David.
As you can imagine Fassbender once again stole the show with his remarkable performance as David and Walter. Though, the rest of the cast did fare much better than those in Prometheus.
The film was enjoyable overall, but I do have a few gripes which I will explain at length in my spoiler-filled review.
Covenant is a worthy entry into the Alien series, but like Prometheus, it has a lot of explaining to do before we get to the 1979 original.
I have a second viewing planned for the 10th and I hear repeat viewings are necessary for this movie.
Expect a fill rundown soon, though!

Hey Guest, want to add your say?

Good enough for me, and VERY happy to know it's a highly re-watchable movie!! Looking fwd to the more in-depth review but for now, I'm just happy for this much! :)

BTW, VERY sharp-looking attire, you Genuinely look like you properly belong there!!

Chris Hmmmm I just read your review for Prometheus from 2012 and you gave it 5 stars. I kinda anticipated that people who liked Prometheus too much are going to have some issues with "Alien Covenant". I hope this is not a scenario where the aliens are just the bait they used to make us watch a movie about A.I. In that case it would be even more deceiving than Prometheus.

Blackwinter-witch I thought he was Tom Hardy, who by the way was at the premiere too lol

Great to hear! Looking forward to hearing more -
Also want to say that the attire is solid, bro - very sharp threads.

Did I miss something stating who the pic was of? I might have leapt to a conclusion it was Chris, as I figured it most likely was, given the Topic...and I had 3 housemeows in my face at the time demanding treat tributes :D

Blackwinter-witch That must be Chris. What I meant is he looks like Tom Hardy in that picture :-)

OMG at the avpgalaxy forum people are tearing each other apart. Alien fans are really passionate, no doubt about it lol The contradictions are puzzling though. Some say Covenant is a straight Prometheus 2, others say there's not enough of Prometheus in it.

That's definitely me in the pic hahaha and thanks guys! I wasn't wearing the jacket that came with it, but it was a 3 piece wool black suit. Very comfortable and relatively classy for this event. I wanted to represent us well. Glad to hear you guys dig it!
And yeah Covenant is a new beast all in its own I would say. It's hard to explain my likes and dislikes in a non-spoiler, few paragraphs. I'm still collating... Haha but without a doubt it requires a repeat viewing. The pacing was rather quick and if you blinked you might've missed things.

OH, ok then, all's good!! Yeah, having a buncha housemeows 'helping' one to Internet...they're NOT as helpful as they like to think. :)
I would say that you represented the forum, membership and yourself extremely well and very Tastefully!
I love movies that have high re-watchability value, as you can always find little things you missed earlier. I'm just really happy that the review is Positive and gives us an idea of the movie's 'character', and it sounds like it has a strong one!

yes chris i'll definitely be your date on the 10th. schwing! there should be an alien/sci-fi fan singles forum/app/website or something. or maybe i'm just a needy lonely nerdy wiener

Hey Chris!! Finally I am able to see you as a person, not as an admin in typed letters! Your dress, hairstyle and attitude reminds me of Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode,- thats a compliment! Even if you maybe dislike the frontman... Well,- back to the hardly awaited review: I know it is very tricky to write one spoiler-free,- but please give your best and try not to go to deep in the storyboard or twists. Thank you so very much for your work and shared time with us here! Best greetz from Germany!

Just wondering, would this movie viewing experience be ruined if knowing the spoilers beforehand?
For instance, when I first watched Alien 3, I had no clue to realize Ridley will be dead at the end, and I was so glad I didn't know it beforehand. So in Alien Covenant, is there any big twists (or some kind of big moments) that it's better left unknown for fans? Thanks

CHRIS - How very fantastic! I am so pleased you enjoyed yourself during the premier and am very interested in reading your full review of Alien: Covenant. As an aside: you look quite dashing in the above picture! I am exceptionally proud to have you as the face of our community! :)

@Jonesy
Ripley,- not Ridley! Or did you mean Scott fell mouse-dead from chair after watching Alien3!? Haha.
I know about 3 twists so far: 2 predictables and one unexpected big third one! So I personally dont want to know more. Its more than enough to know thats "all about David" as Chris mentioned.

Thanks @clavia2, glad to know that, guess I better run away whenever I see a "spoilers" tag.
yea I actually meant Ripley lol

@Lone lol!
@SparklingAmbien, if you can make it to Toronto on the 10th I have some tickets to give out. I'll be posting an official giveaway tonight.
@AaronStar, I was wearing the vest in that shot, but the camera girl was wearing my jacket (she was cold lol)
I have another pic with Dane Hallett, at night where I have the jacket on as well:

And I will do my best to release a spoiler free review first. Then, a fleshed out, spoiler filled version after that.
@Jonesy, Depends which spoilers you discovered. But Ultimately with everything I saw leading up to, there was still plenty of stuff I was surprised by.
I will also add, they cut a LOT out of the film. I'm hoping for a director's cut to be released.
One twist could also be shaw is the evil one in the background getting david to behave like he does. If there are 3 twists and 1 being unexpected.

@joylitt THAT's the reason why to forget the reviews (and I'm not talking about Chris' review in particular). EVERYONE is going to pick this apart. Heck EVERY movie gets picked apart nowadays.

Very classy style Chris and since you obviously work out you wear it nicely! Good choice of colours as well.
Did you feel like they cut out parts that made the film feel incoherent as a whole or was it edited good enough- in combination with other good aspects- not to take any further notice about it?
Did it try to please several camps (Alien/Aliens/Prometheus) IYO or does it find its own strain among the other Alien films?

Thanks Chris the A+mazing admin for the updates. Can't wait to hear more of your reviews.

This thread went from Chris's impressions of the film, to the ladies of Sci-fied's impressions of Chris XD

Lmao @ALIEN426
@Neomorph, with regards to cuts I think certain aspects lacked some explanation while others made scenes seem to progress quickly. Some instances I felt like they rushed it a bit, but it's easy to follow what's going on.
Also no, I don't think it tried to please the camps, at least not blatantly. However there were some very obvious Alien and Aliens references. Quite a few consecutively as well so at parts I felt like it was almost forced but they were subtle enough to hide that fact.
Honestly some of my biggest gripes have to do with pacing and creature design choices. But, there are plenty of creature design elements I loved. The Facehuggers being one of them - best we've ever seen by far. So, it's hard to explain properly without spoiling things.
Also, I've heard it better described as a companion to Prometheus rather than a true sequel. Is that a better way to describe it?

I fully understand what you mean in regards to not spoiling yet trying to explain, and it's no easy task. You can see that on actors being asked questions that tread more or less dangerously close to, or over spoiler zones, and they try their best to answer professionally.
I feel like a lot of films nowadays lack proper pacing in general, whether it's caused by flawed writing or editing I'm not sure, but it's definitely not due to a jaded viewpoint on films after having watched so many throughout the years.
I'm looking forward to your review!

Thanks for representing us all Chris!
Now, please....on with the review!!! I am dying to know!!

Lookin' sharp, Chris!
Glad to hear David is a major focus- that was what I was hoping for.

Hmmm yes lucky you! So this ones going back to the roots! Yay that is exactly what I was hoping for and shouting about...But a confusing film still...in the down side. I don't mind a focus on aliens for this one but want to see what's behind it all and the why's soon! And praise the Lord if they are not a bunch of idiots!
Anyone predicted the outcomes? I guess we will find out tmrw a bit...
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

Thanks for the sanitized review and subsequent elaborations, Chris. I have hope that I will enjoy this about as much as I think will. I am in between the layman and the diehards of this forum family, which puts me in a good position to watch without assumption. I eagerly await your full review.
Hope they haven't cut out too much "ala" Prometheus.
There were quite a few scenes in that film which were cut, which really would've made the film that much better.
