Scorpion Tail - Spaceship

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 8:24 AMFor me this scorpion tail kind of thing looks like a spaceship. This could be a spaceship from the engineers. In the prologue "The Crossing" we've seen this ship just hovering there. But in the Trailer when David walks at the same place (wearing the engineer cloak)... Its gone. Where is it? What happened? What do you guys think?

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 9:06 AMI have the impression that it's not a spaceship, but a sort of docking station.

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 9:25 AMI also think the city center is more of landing site than a hidden ship. The likely catacombs under the pad (through the port hole that opened) are intriguing to me, and I hope they are covered at some point in all the coming movies. Such underground feel is classic ever since the original sublevel egg shop of horrors in 79. The footage of the croissant tunnels in covenant and the declension towards david's tinkering lab evoke what I'm talking about.

MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 9:37 AMWhile I love the art design in the final city sequence, I really don't see the purpose of the floating stinger considering the hole that opens below on the ground for the juggernaut to "park" like in Prometheus. Then again we're probably not supposed to understand their technology the same way we don't understand their deadly pathogen weapon of mass destruction (except David)
The stinger looks badass anyway and that goes a long way.

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 9:48 AMLikening it to our tech, think of a crane with a small landing pad overlooking a subterranean dock accessible through such a hole. One ship has the option to dock "high" for short term matters, and the others "low" for longer term tasks like repair and storage?

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 9:49 AMI'm not entirely convinced that the bay doors that open in the ground, are infact for the craft to land in.
We've seen in videos/photos that there's 4 elder/engineer heads down there, so I'm betting the elders dock with the flying station, then come down into that area via a shuttle craft or something.
Either that, or someone the population has chosen to be a sacrifice, is collected from that area and taken to the ship.
I'm thinking, looking at the juggernaut in that image you posted, the two objects attached to either side of the juggernaut, are shuttles.

i think the ampoule delivery mechanism uses magnetism, hence the shape to reasonate with the planets magnetic field, the ampoules just seem to rise up and are 'sucked out' like a vacuum, no launcher as such.
i think the juggernaut undocks and trys to get away, but a missile or emp/nuke disables it and it crashes.

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 10:05 AMYeah, looks like the scorpion ship is destroyed or is autopiloted, it flys away, goes into orbit when a ship leaves the area

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 10:25 AMIf it is a docking station, what @IllegalAlienSignedUp said does make sense. Like, at seaports, you'd dock your boat/ship on the water for short term matters or take it out of the water to have it repaired or something.
Then again, it could be anything, including a mother spaceship.
