What and Why Do Androids Eat?

I don't see anything on the Weyland Industreis website about the 8 model needing to eat, but there is this - "He constantly monitors the degradation of his high-turbidity hydraulic fluid and will replenish at regular intervals (bi-monthly approximate for most mixed-use applications)."

That may be the white liquid David was drinking, his "blood". I think the eating food part may have been in his programming to fit in with humans.

That makes sense. I guess the white stuff both Ash and David were drinking must have been "high-turbidity hydraulic fluid" that they needed to "replenish at regular intervals".

I bet if anyone on board the Nostromo had smelled Ash's drink they would have realized he was a robot, because it probably would have smelled like garage chemicals or something, instead of milk :-/

...Or maybe not, because then I guess androids would smell like garage-chemicals which would be pretty off-putting. But, if someone had accidentally tasted it, I'm sure it wouldn't have tasted like milk.

Also, how did David survive for ten years without replenishing it?

I think Ash would have been drinking something normal in Alien, since he was supposed to be undercover.

As far as David, we don't know how long the 'regular intervals' are, or that he would not be able to function if it were not replenished. But since he was primarily Weyland's right hand man, and the Prometheus lifeboat was Weyland's and had supplies for 2 years, anything David needed would have been in the on board supplies.

I think as Kethol said the Milk stuff is for Maintenance, and as for the other stuff, it would appear the Androids can eat and drink to a degree to fit in with Humans.

They would then need a compartment which applies Chemicals to Break down this Food and Flush it out of their System some way.  So some-kind of Digestive system but this does not mean its nothing Fancy... maybe only as Fancy as a Miniature Toilet System inside.   If they get some Floaters then maybe they have to Regurgitate them lol

The hair of David grows and he even need a hair-cut in Covenant and discolours It in Prometheus. His hair must be organic or similar. I think he can use part of the food to create and repair parts of the body that easily get damage like hair, nails and skin. That is my theory.

Good question, that doesn’t make sense. Since they are synthetics you could guess that they haven’t got a digestive system so that they don’t need to crap and pee (just stating the obvious folks). If they have to then do they use a special android toilet just like you have toilets for handicapped people? Do they have android signs at the doors? Will the doors sense when there is a non-android that tries to get in if they are (err. . . ) in a rush? Do they have to use paper afterwards or do the crap disappear without a trace?

I don’t remember that Call didn’t eat or drink but I remember that David and Walter did so (not sure about Ash and Bishop). What comes in must come out. ;)
