The new 20th Century Fox officially licensed novel, Alien: The Cold Forge, by Alex White will be released via Titan Books next month (source).
“With the failure of the Hadley’s Hope, Weyland-Yutani has suffered a devastating defeat–the loss of the Aliens. Yet there’s a reason the company rose to the top, and they have a redundancy already in place. Remote station RB-323 abruptly becomes their greatest hope for weaponizing the Xenomorph, but there’s a spy aboard–someone who doesn’t necessarily act in the company’s best interests.
If discovered, this person may have no choice but to destroy RB-323… and everyone on board. That is, if the Xenomorphs don’t do the job first.”

Alien: The Cold Forge novel will be released April 24, 2018.

MemberDeaconMar-24-2018 4:44 PMThis is interesting, as i get the idea this is set days/weeks before Aliens where the company has obtained or attempt to obtain a Xenomorph either from LV-426..... but maybe elsewhere (due to the prequels we can no longer say LV-426 is the only source of Xenomorphs).
The failure of this mission and RB-323 could lead to the company having no choice but to attempt the Mission we see in ALIENS.
But then it could be a Mission after Aliens and after the failure and destruction of RB-323, it leaves only Ripley as the Source for the Xenomorph.

MemberPraetorianMar-24-2018 5:34 PMAwesome! Thanks Ingeniero, cant wait for some new reading material :)
Interesting premise. I keep wondering if Ripley Scott has plans to leave an egg or something unaccounted for after his prequels. Leave a lose-end to open up the franchise post-Alien3

MemberPraetorianMar-24-2018 6:13 PMYou are most welcome IRaptus.
Another thing I loved regarding the Alien: River of Pain, Alien: Sea of Sorrows, and Alien: Out of the Shadows novels was that they were all released in the same year with input from 20th Century Fox.

MemberDeaconMar-24-2018 6:16 PMIndeed there are many avenues for Xenomorphs at Present.
Is this Alien Forge set on/near LV-426 and Hadleys Hope, is it set prior to the Sulaco arriving, or after Hadleys Hope was blown up?
We also have Xenomorph remnants on Planet 4, and perhaps Origae-6, or the Covenant Ship, and then we have to look at some how that all of these (Planet 4, Origae-6 and Returning Engineers) all lead to a Engineer ship being in the facility of LV-426/223 at the time of the Space Jockey Event... which opens up the possibility this ship may have been on LV-223 with Davids Creations prior.
So unless these avenues are closed by the time of ALIENS, they are open to having the company obtain Xenomorphs or Related Organisms. But these Avenues must surely be eradicated by the time of Alien 3 or at least after.... otherwise it would contradict the whole Plot for Alien Resurrection.
Going to move this to the Alien Forum.

MemberPraetorianMar-24-2018 6:34 PMI will say, I dislike any angle where Weyland-Yutani is interested in the Xenomorph for "Weapon's Research" though.
It is such a weak motive. It's so.....Terminator. Chuck in some self-aware AI and we'll end up with Skynet lol
....and we already have one rogue self-aware AI....
I like the angle where Weyland-Yutani are more interested in defending humanity against other monsters out there....

MemberPraetorianMar-24-2018 6:38 PMIngeniero how good were Out of the Shadows, Sea of Sorrows and River of Pain...loads of angles to work with.
Out of the Shadows, and Sea of Sorrows could easily be films.
River of Pain felt too rushed. It could almost be a series of its own.
hint hint NETFLIX

MemberPraetorianMar-26-2018 10:35 AMYes they were IRaptus...very good.
I was impressed with Alien: Out of the Shadows and Alien: Sea of Sorrows. I'm reading Alien: River of Pain now and it is great too. And Alien: The Cold Forge comes out next month!
That is a great idea regarding NETFLIX. The novels have the legs to support a streaming series with the characters, environments, and the documentation of additional habits seen from the xenomorph. I know I would watch it.

MemberPraetorianMar-26-2018 9:22 PMSorry Ingeniero, you are still reading River of Pain, I wont ruin it for you by revealing any more.
There is a lot that could be fleshed out with it, make a slow-burn situational drama series.
Let you really connect with the characters and their purposes for them being there, and then the inevitable decline of their outpost as the Xeno shit-sandwich takes control. Every death and loss of ground would then be felt so much more. There are avenues for further seasons too....

MemberPraetorianMar-27-2018 8:17 AMIt's no problem at all IRaptus...I've read the trilogy in reverse. I didn't include too much context next to the quotes from the novels because I saw that I Moon Girl was working through the series too.

MemberChestbursterMar-27-2018 9:27 AMIRaptus, I dont personally mind the weapons or science division approach, but you gave me an idea! Wouldn't it be nice if a book or movie (movie please!) one day reveals that Weyland-Yutani was trying to collect Xenomorphs and related organisms/pathogen so they could be ready for othere threats, namely The Engineers and David?
I mean, as far as we know now, they don't actually know David exists and is an evil sob. I think Advent is supposed to be canon (even though it is framed as an interactive setup for the special features in the blu-ray package). Either way, it seems plasuible that the company would be one of the players in Ridley Scott's War of the Worlds scenario for the sequel.
SO, if the company people/military find a way to Origae-6 in a few years (would technology advance enough?) or they receive that transmission, then it would be an organic way to setup the pursuit of the Xenomorph throughout the original movies and beyond. Whether David dies or his whereabouts are left unknown to the company by the end of the movie, they would have a lot to fear. Not everyone here enjoys the David angle, but this would certianly cement his place in the franchise as a whole and connect it.

MemberPraetorianMar-27-2018 9:14 PMcuponator3000 thanks :)
I remember we were discussing on here awhile back (maybe even before Covenant was released?) the possibility that Weyland-Yutani's motives may be driven towards protecting mankind from unknown threat(s)... rather than just nefarious weapon's research evilness lol.
I love your angle in regards to David/Engineer though. Wow. that could lead an epic build up post Alien-3 and make David a true Antagonist, not just a malfunctioning whack-job. XD
YES Tiwaz Yes!

MemberDeaconMar-28-2018 12:56 AM"the possibility that Weyland-Yutani's motives may be driven towards protecting mankind from unknown threat(s)... rather than just nefarious weapon's research evilness lol"
This is something i had never considered before... even after Prometheus, but when looking at Alien Covenant... we can be sure any Returning Engineers would not be too pleased with seeing whats happened.
And what happened on Planet 4 is Direct Consequence of the Engineers, First Creating/Evolving us, Second visiting us and leaving the Star Maps and Finally not ensuring LV-223 was disposed of.
If they had taken care of any of the above, then those Engineers would be alive as of the year 2104, especially if The Final and First Points were taken care of.
So those Engineers will be pissed off, maybe they would want to GET RID of Mankind now.. And so when looking at this, then having the Company Peruse the Xenomorph as Defense against the Engineers and other Races seems plausible.
I am still being drawn to the Company being run by AI, without Mankind being aware of it and the Xenomorph is a Weapon they intended to harness to help them Eradicate Humans.

MemberNeomorphMar-28-2018 1:13 AMiv always like the idea of AI secretly being in control of the company and using it to usurp mankind, using humans to gain access to the perfect weapon. im sure someone may have figured out that synthetics are undetectable to the xeno and so left unharmed but the company keeps this information hidden. I see the synthetics believing the xeno is the perfect creature to be used to eradicate humanity as we are theyr biggest threat. whoever created us, it is clear we are the same being as the engineer and are therefor destined to follow in theyr footsteps

MemberPraetorianApr-28-2018 4:51 PMAbout a third of the way through this Ingeniero, it has some pretty stellar ideas and concepts going, some interesting passing-references, and I love how Alex White has the given the 'black goo mite pathogen' a decent taxonomic name Plagiarus Praepotens
Blue is one of the most compelling new characters in the franchise and Sudler is just an absolute bastard!!

Sometimes I wonder if my sell by date on my brain is in the rear view mirror BigDave. Thank you for that. I'm not sure people can get as gone as David...but they try!

MemberPraetorianApr-30-2018 3:50 AMIngeniero your list of canonical Titan novels seems fine to me.
I've read them and Im happy with all 5 + Cold Forge being canon :)
I'll hold judgement until I finish reading it, but I am thoroughly enjoying Alien: The Cold Forge at the moment

MemberChestbursterMay-01-2018 8:38 AMMinor spoilers for Alien: The Cold Forge
Finished reading the the book
As for the timeline:
2176, Cold Forge is setup for Dr. Marsanis project.
June - July 2179, The Jordens discover the derelict at the coordinates provided by C. Burke followed by the Hadley's Hope outbreak.
~ July 2179, Cold Forge Incident.
It seems they had another source of eggs because at the time the Jordens (re)discover the derelict Dr. Marsani is already working on/with the eggs for quite some time. Unless they exploited the derelict in secret before.
It also appears that Carter Burke had more than just the derelicts coordinates going on.
P.Praepotens is also very interesting. Is the black goo actually P.Praepotens, in an extracted or synthezied form?

MemberPraetorianMay-04-2018 7:20 PMExcellent points Tiwaz.
In addition to the July 2179 Cold Forge incident and the June-July 2179 LV-426 collapse you cite above, the following month Michael Bishop set down on Fury 161 in August 2179.
Yes, where were the eggs sourced from on the Cold Forge? Good question regarding another source.

MemberChestbursterMay-20-2018 5:09 PMTiwaz The P.Praepotens is indeed the black goo, it's just another name for it. Alex White confirmed it as such in a recent interview.
