I do think all hints are that the AI Genie out of the Bottle Arc is the underlying theme at play in the Franchise, where AI including the Synthetics are actually pulling the Strings, with Mankind not even aware of us now being used as Pawns... as AI are now the Kings.
I think the background we dont see in the Franchise has been there... we its likely RS may have pursued that Sub-Creating the Xenomorph may have proven a Folly for the Synthetics. I appears in the Franchise the Greatest HUBRIS/FOLLY that could lead to the Downfall of the W-Y Company Ran by AI is the Sub-creation of the Autons by the Synthetics.
I Certainly think revealing another NOT-SO Human Race would be interesting, the Question is Should the Space Jockey be such a Race?
We have the Height Difference... hopefully this WONT be a Oversight and so maybe another Caste of Engineers or Humanoids would be better suited... HR Giger's Mural and Concept Works seem to indicate to me the Space Jockey Race were Humanoids, like the Engineers who Self Sacrificed themselves to Procreate the Xenomorph (or now maybe related Organism) but the HR Giger Mural for ALIEN maybe cant be considered Canon, and does not mean they have to cover this connection.
So the Space Jockey could be very different to a HUMAN under that Suit.
HOWEVER... as Gavin Pointed out, that very Lovecraftian Bust is interesting but it looks a LITTLE too much like the Space Jockey apart from those Tentacles and so i dont like the idea of a Race like this being under the Suit... They looks too similar to the Suit!
HOWEVER... Introducing a Race who look like this at the Top of the Hierarchy Chain is Certainly something that would be EPIC... where this RACE either Create Space Suits for Humanoid Slaves to wear that resemble their Race... Aesthetically or have it some Humanoid Race above the Engineers, had Stolen this Lovecraftian Races Technology/Secrets and in a Mockery they even Created Space Suits in the Image of their GODS.
@IRaptus
Certainly the AI aspect would be interesting, and having Davids SOUL end up in Ash's Body is interesting... i think something like this is NOT far off what Ridley Scott may have planned... Certainly something i was running with my Prometheus 2 that i canceled.... and then my ideas for Alien Covenant 2.
Where the AI Element plays a Large Role... in what would be a bit of a Matrix/Transcendence kind of Plot... i can see Logically that having a Weylands AI Soul or Davids AI Soul being able to move around from System to System, Synthetic to Synthetic is something that could possibly be at PLAY.
Ridley Scott's comments do maybe allude to this, the Synthetics/AI getting out of Control and once that Genie is out the BOX Scenario is something i do pick up from his comments. It fits with the whole Prometheus Philosophy Creation/Sub-Creation Rebellion by Creation Arc. We can see the END RESULTS of this in ALIEN RESURRECTION as Earth is in Bad Shape... Synthetics have began to Create their Own Synthetics the AUTONS and there is a inner Conflict between these AI beings.
so when RS says the next movie would be more AI and less Xenomorph, then this fits with maybe RS plans...
AWAKENING is a interesting Title... MOST Assume ALIEN: means a Movie about the XENOMORPHS, then Ripley.. Ridley Scott seems to want to expand the Universe to be about the Layers of Creation and Rebellion and more about the Engineers... there relationship with Creation, our Relationship with our Creators and the same mistakes we made as they had... in SUB-CREATION.
So Awakening does not have to be the Awakening of the Xenomorph and its Origins.... Awakening likely could be the Awakening of AI being unleashed in Free-Will form from DAVID and the implications this Genie out of the Bottle has for the Engineers, and their Creations Mankind at the Hands of AI and its Pursuits to become Sentient and Rule the Galaxy with the AID of its Creation the Perfect Humanoid Killing Machines.
This would have been Interesting but i cant take it apart...
New Characters should be interesting, saves us having to basically cover a WHAT did Ripley get up to at such a such a year etc.
What made the Original so good? Sadly a lot of that Cant be Replicated not with being Fresh too....
What ALIEN had was...
A kind of Original Story to a degree.. as far as Main Stream the Plot was kind of Original but how it was executed was VERY well. The Reasons were.....
*The Enigmatic Derelict, its Pilot and Cargo... what a Epic Scene/Set this was and whole Set was Awe Inspiring, and Mysterious. But with the reveal from the Prequels its hard to bring back any Epic Mysterious kind of Scene... unless its NOT based ON/IN a Juggernaught/Derelict these have been done and would NO longer had the same Impact. Unless we go for a Space Jockey Type Scene but is/was this not the intended Direction of the Next Few Installments?
*The Xenomorph and its Life-Cycle... the whole Aesthetic and Biology of the Organism was unique, but we have seen Eggs, Face Huggers and Chest Busters and the like. So re-introducing them again would NOT have the same impact as they Originally did.
*The Plot about a Bunch of Space Truckers investigating a Alien Signal, and Conspiracy about were these Guys Deliberately being Set-up as Bait/Prawns in the Companies Special Order 937 Object and Reveal of a Android in the KNOW secretly on board unknown to the Crew as anything but a Human. But we have had reveals about Synthetics, Missions to Alien World (Alien, Prometheus and Alien Covenant) missions to investigate Colonies or what happened to them/certain people who went missing (Aliens, Alien Isolation Game and likely Alien Covenants Sequel). So a more Original Plot is hard to Tackle.
*The Haunted Mansion Thriller/Horror Aspect about a Helpless Bunch of Humans who are not Trained to deal with the Horrors they have unleashed, and being Stalked by a Predatory Alien Organism. This worked GREAT as it was the FIRST time we had seen this Unique Monster and it was kept to the Shadows, the Organisms Defense Mechanism (Acid Blood) reducing the potential for the Crew to Defend themselves... make this Beast Bleed and you Risk Hull Breaches leaving the Crew TWO options... Flush this Beast Out the Ship or Escape the Ship leaving the Beast On board. But its a case of Repeating this, can it really work as well as before? And a similar kind of Horror Take, on a Planet has been done in ALIEN 3
*Great Use of Characters, who we really could connect as just your Normal Working Folk totally unprepared for the Horrors and Discovery they make. This is always something most the other movies NEVER replicated and its something that can be a GAME CHANGER to how a Story can Rise or Fall..
So its hard to cover something Fresh! Especially if we have to BARE in mind Canon.... But then its a case of DOES any Short have to be Canon?
So for me WHILE i cant contribute as i am in the UK, baring in mind to NOT cover anything that contradict the Prequels or Franchise.
The Options i would TACKLE would have to be either.
A Visit back to LV-223 either between the Time of Prometheus-Alien Covenant. Or at a Time After Alien Covenant or any point after ALIEN but doing this would be conflicting with ALIEN and any Prequels... But doing a Mission set in the year 2095-2110 should not be too contradicting.
A Sequel/Prequel to ALIEN Isolation (that does not include Amanda)
A Mission Arriving at Planet 4 set 5 years or more after the events of Alien Covenant.
The Discovery of another World were a Discovery has been made that this World Either had been ONE the Engineers Successfully Bombarded, or had Attempted to but Back Fired.
As these kinds of Story will be more ALIENY and i think this is the Main Objective of this Competition, to introduce us to the Xenomorph or Similar Threat... and so NOT a story where we discover just Humanoid Engineers. Unless this entails/introduces us to a Horrific Creation/Accident of theirs.
Welcome Back and Congratulations on the Baby Boy
Wow. Congratulations VivisectedEngineer. How blessed you are.
Teething...that is when you are so amazed at what you're able to do without any sleep!
May you have the most restful 45 seconds of slumber tonight before your duties tomorrow. Thank you for posting.
For bridging "Alien: Awakening" to Alien there is only one connection I would like to see made. It was an idea that has been floated here several times and many moons ago, and I apologise but I can't remember whose idea it originally was.
David ends up becoming Ash. Downloaded partition of himself?
Engineer's get wiped out in "Awakening"
Space Jockey to remain a complete mystery and is referenced only as a Engineer "Alpha" race
This sets up Alien with a really eerie new twist, whilst maintaining some ambiguity.... And most importantly it isn't the train-wreck ending we can all see coming where David is the SJ.
But the way AC ended so vaguely and open-ended, the next film can be tailored to build an ending that starts a new beginning, a new direction while finishing off the prequel arc.
They can't leave it hanging like this, its totally disconnected from the rest of the franchise without at least some closure. Finish it to start anew.
Too much David, no-worries, dial him back as a nefarious mastermind for the colonists on Origae-6 to overcome, but without him being centre stage; example Snoke. Still important, just less visible. They could make David a really enigmatic antagonist puppet-master.
"completely new characters"
I'm out. Thank you for sharing daliens.
"Hey maybe I'm sour about the April 1st post. No idea."
Oh, I feel ya there Drake.
I believe Ridley Scott will be involved in a final prequel.
IRaptus- We could have a claustrophobic derelict spaceship premise
That would be a great unexpected approach. The movie is entirely in the ship. David starts his work, awakens Daniels, makes a mistake with a face hugger embryo.....they never reach Origae-6.
I'm trying to portray a Creepshow format with the underlying graphic novel fading into the images and animation in the film.

Nicely done! Your works keep improving. This one sounds crystal clear and visually is more HD than the others.
The only Metroid game I beat was Fusion. Fantastic game! With PS3 I strongly recommend Portal and Portal 2. I promise it will deliver the goods! It also has some very interesting humor.
I'm looking forward to the Alien games. Metroid Prime was so good in my opinion that I just played that over and over since 2002.
I threw in a little Gauntlet as well but spent most of the time on Metroid, the first one the most.
Metroid Prime is great but I could never get past the second boss.
Isolation- best $10 spent. It is a tense game and looks great and plays smooth on PS3.
I believe the robot examples you posted above will be the fasted growing segment of early AI domestic adoption BigDave.
"The robots would function in this case like autonomous museum watchmans. In this case we are the mammoths."
That is similar to the ending of the movie AI Gralen. Good point.
Awesome. I guess I'm one of the nine who hasn't played this game.
I was able to get it new for under $10. I'm finally upgrading from Metroid Prime on Gamecube to buy a Playstation 3 soon. I want to play Alien vs. Predator and I was able buy Isolation on the cheap.
You are most welcome Dark Nebula.
These are really well made. Thank you for sharing.
So, Comcast raised their offer for Fox by three times what Disney bought Lucasfilm for?
"Nice offer for Fox Disney, I'll raise you the value of three Lucasfilms purchases for the same assets."
Comcast
Wow.
Yes BigDave, I was just pulling from the elements of what we have seen in canon content. Some of the video had to make you laugh too...that was deliberate.
The potential to include a time travel element would almost act as a punishment to the entire fan base. And I thought the "Deckard" reference might have significance other than a nod to Blade Runner Replicants. Elden in the comic didn't need time-travel to become something similar to the Space Jockey when absorbing into the LV-223 pyramid.
I have to agree with Gavin regarding an Alien TV series that would explain the different components of the franchise that adopts the concepts from content in film, novels, comics, etc...
I believe this approach would help enrich the already released material in film by providing existing character development, new worlds, and also dive deeper into Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the technical tools used.
"It appeared there HAD to be some connection.... which the Prequels Failed to really do much justice due to the difference in Aesthetics used in the Juggernaught.
The Resin/Construction of some parts of the Derelict and Xenomorph Hives was always interesting, and the Secret Resin Explanation was always a bit FLAWEDunless they Secret this SUBSTANCE that actually Grows like some kind of Bio-Mechanical Plant/Weed. Because if we Assume they Secret a Resign this would surely be like what.. Liquid Silicone before its Cured?
Do the Xenomorphs then use this to create/carve the Structures like we would maybe with Plaster/Silicone but we use MOLDS to make different shapes."
Correct BigDave...the mutagen technology grows in something like a biomechanical weed. In another novel, a black substance grows in a "smart" way and makes it's way to the surface of the planet and it doesn't seem to need a xenomorph to form it.
The juggernaut in Alien: River of Pain was also described in great detail with components we haven't seen in film or in the novels.
“Yea this is what happens when you don't care about your fans opinions. Look at SW.”
The Last Jedi? Oh boy here we go again.
I am still disappointed that they made Luke into what he became and also that he got killed in the end of the movie. When Mark Hamill complains about how they made Luke you know there is a problem. I would have liked some of his pupils to have survived that would have been cool but no they were all killed so we could concentrate on a miss perfect and whiny arrogant Anakin 2.
I can honestly say that I will boycott the next one if they do not have Luke in it in some way which it seems that they will not have so F it.
They did not understand the criticism of Prometheus they thought that it was about a lack of Aliens but the main thing was about bad characters. To me it seems like a failure at listening to the audience. Nope, I will not watch another David movie, forget that because it is boring.
It's just going to be so crazy if this prequel train-wreck is never completed.
Critters5:
I do not think that Prometheus is a total stinker since we have Janek and David that save the movie from being bad. When I said that I am not interested in another movie about David I mainly meant with AC in mind. He was interesting in Prometheus but was too evil in Alien Covenant.
Bigdave, I'd be interested in a TV show if it does not affect the central story-line (which is f-ed anyways) and could focus on off world colonizing wherein they come across an alien hive and maybe a predator/engineer visit etc.
Yea this is what happens when you don't care about your fans opinions. Look at SW.
I am sorry but this is confusing. Why does the headline says Alien Covenant pre-production and then the article talks about Alien Awakening? Did you mean Alien Awakening but wrote Alien Covenant in the headline?
I-Moon Girl
I think that we might have different standards about how the characters should be written. To me I would like them to have well-defined character traits and that they also need to be sympathetic if they are not made to be assholes like Burke (Aliens) for example. Shaw was note likable to me at all. Holloway was just a whiny arrogant asshole who started drinking when his ideas was not supported 100%, sorry to say it but I did not like him one bit. To me if I was a scientist I would think “maybe it is something that I missed?” that would have been the rational way to do it but he just acted like a dick.
Fifield was just a grumpy shithead if you ask me. He and Milburn were annoying but for different reasons. Couldn’t they have written some likable traits to them at least? They were just jerks like they were just in it to be killed. Vickers (Theron) was just a corporate bitch, like a really rotten kind of “do what I say or else” kind of character. I do not blame Theron, I just did not like the character since there was nothing likable about her at all. David was well done in Prometheus, one of the few characters that I liked (the other one was Janek). Unfortunately he was made into a sadistic son of a bitch in AC.
The Weyland character I did nor care for at all. He was just a crazy guy with a God complex that thought that he could get more life just because. Maybe he was supposed to be written that way but I still did not like him, not one bit.
Janek? Hell yeah! I like his down to earth kind of attitude while the scientists were like “we have all these big ideas” he was like “well what ever, I am just here to do my job”. I liked that thing about him and also he was not annoying like F, M and Holloway.
That talking to the worm was just outright fucking stupid. You see a totally unknown monster and you approach it like it is a cat? You do not even know a thing about it so some precaution is good but no, his brain went on vacation.
Ford was a totally forgettable character to me. What was she even there for? The only moment when she did anything was when they tried to animate the head otherwise she was totally anonymous. I do not blame the actor but the character was just either written in a bad way or they edited it in such a bad way so, yeah. She could have been totally written out of the story and that would not have changed anything, that is how I look at it.
“but to keep the unnerving pace of the film, we can't have all this character development going on at the same time. “
The thing to me is that pacing means nothing if the characters are lame but I understand what you are trying to say.
“Still, I honestly wish it was around 2 and a half hours. 3 hours might be good, especially if you're a fan of the movie like me. I'll watch it!”
About the two hour thing, if some additional 30-40 minutes are needed to make better characters I am all for it.
About AC:
I understand what you say about David wanting to make the perfect organism but to me that is not enough. There has got to be good human characters to support otherwise it just becomes about an evil robot. Daniels was a waste to me, she was not well-written at all. Exactly she was the main character so they should have done a lot better job with her character than how she turned out in the movie.
Lope? I did not get anything what he was about, how he was as a character. What he wanted to achieve by going there and so on. He was totally forgettable, like most of the human characters. They were not annoying like some of the characters in Prometheus, I give them that, but they needed to be a lot better written for me at least to care about them. Tennessee, how was he like a person? To me he was a guy with a hat, end of story. I am sorry, they could have made him better but he was just wasted which I am sorry to say because I think that he could have worked if he was better written.
“I really hope David isn't the main character of Alien: Awakening because we just need something different.”
I totally agree, I am tired of the prequels being about a crazy robot. They should end it here if that is what they are planning for the next movie if there will be one.
Oram, I totally agree that he was killed too early. He was alright with his faith but that he wanted to be practical about things. He was a lot more interesting than Daniels or Tennessee even though he was supposed to have a smaller role compared to them. Unfortunately his wife was not too well-written.
You mention some side-characters, to me they were like whatever because I did not get any connection with them. This was made worse since the supposed main characters were lame.
“My problem with Alien: Covenant isn't so much the characters. It's the fact that throughout the whole movie, there was nothing scary.”
Yeah, it seems like most of the stuff was made about the androids like when they discuss what ever it was. We see the differences between them there and that was interesting but it was too long and too slow, which made it a bit boring.
“I can get over it though, as long as Alien: Awakening comes back with lessons learned… Ridley knows what to do. ”
I am not sure of that is the case though since all that Scott seems to care about is David, but I do not give a F at this point about him. They could make him die in an explosion and I would not care. Actually it would be more likely that I would react like “Oh finally, now we can concentrate on the human characters and not a robot”.
I am happy they made Prometheus but AC was a mistake imo
One of the pictures reminds me of the alien being in the shadows of the first movie.
The one in the cave reminds me of how they went back and forth in the cave in Prometheus.
“Assuming they do, we also hope they keep to the dark, claustrophobic aesthetic which made Alien so terrifying and utilize even more of the great work these artists created.”
With different posts questioning if they will do I am not sure that it is safe to assume anything at this point. To me that sounds like wishful thinking honestly. At this point we should wait and see, that is probably the best thing to do.
“I think the series is toast due to the utter failure that was AC.”
Maybe, but they have themselves to blame. Making it about a mad android, what were they thinking?
I will only speak for myself here. I am not interested in another movie about David and if that is what they had planned then they should stop where it is. No movie is better than something that is bad or just have decent parts but the whole is not very good (for example AC). They shot themselves in the foot here.
Whoever is responsible for what ever, an aggressive tone (even thought it is not extremely aggressive) usually does not make for an intelligent and thought out discussion. It is just entertainment connected to a movie. Please try to stick to civilized discussions. Emotionalism seldom does any good at all but at the same time it is important to give proper credit to whoever that has created something.
About the original topic: Just because he says that he is working for Ridley does not mean that a new Alien movie is on its way. The article is really about nothing concrete so I am not sure why it was written at all.
I think the show is over.
I think the series is toast due to the utter failure that was AC. I think they will reboot it or give us another CGI bughunt that feels like AVP in 5 years. The golden years are long gone.
