I think a lot of this comes down to a common problem with the Franchise, which is the forever changing back story/plot with each incarnation of the franchise and released extras.   We also have some Novels but i am always reluctant to take them as Canon unless they are a Official Novel of the movies... even then some of these can contradict things.

The Franchise has many Flaws,  ALIEN does set up a conspiracy theory about really how much the company knew, and it painted the picture that the detection of the Signal Prompted the Nostromo to be directed to Thedus and then have hidden Synthetic Agent ASH and Special Oder 937 activated.

ALIENS proposed a Question to us about how come no one went back to LV-426 as surely those who had set up that Ash and Special Order 937 would be on the Nostromo, must have become concerned and interested in the disappearance of the Nostromo, and so WHY not send another mission to LV-426?  Then WHY was it 35 years after the Nostromo mission that Hadleys Hope was set up and no incidents for like 22 years?

When we get to ALIEN 3 we have to ask why Pursue Ripley for a Xenomorph?  Logical would dictate that after the Nuke of Hadleys Hope there was no other place to source the Xenomorph.

So when dealing with the Prequels it opens up a lot of Questions, and Conflicts, we have to assume as of Alien in 2122 the Derelict IS the ONLY source of the Xenomorph known to the company, and thus LV-223, Planet 4 and Origae-6 would all have to YIELD nothing related to the Xenomorph by the year 2122 but certainly by the year 2179

When we are looking at the Prometheus extras and back ground, indeed the company was aware of a Signal on LV-426 and that David was in-bedded in the mission to check it out.  We can assume David had sent a series of transmissions with no response to LV-426 and as Dr Shaw's Star Maps indicated that System and LV-223 seemed more likely candidate to check out first, the Prometheus had carried on with this destination.   This left us to consider that David maybe knew what the SOS Signal was, unless the Space Jockey Language was different to the Engineers.

But ALAS with Alien Covenant and the U-Turn, it will appear any contradicting Weyland Files would now have to be considered NON-CANON

So by having David as the Creator, and the Time-Frame, could now indeed indicate the SOS from LV-426 is a far more recent event, hence why it was not detected previously... we DONT know when the Space Jockey Event happens, but i am willing to bank that there was NO Derelict on LV-426 at least post 2112 and likely latter than that.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWas the colony shielded from orbital bombardment/attack?

You would think there would be Security Protocols in place, and Wayne Haagg did suggest the Scorpion type ship was some kind of Border Control.

We can only assume the City Security had noticed the Juggernaught and lack of communication or becoming suspicious with the Juggernaught, they then sent out the Docking Ship to intercept.

Or maybe this is just regular procedure, we can see the Hanger had began to open up to allow the Juggernaught to enter, so the Hanger either opened up automatically after detecting the Juggernaught at a certain distance, or some communication from the Juggernaught activated the Hanger.

Wayne Haagg had also spoke about the Docking Ship and Juggernaught had a Dust Up (a confrontation) which resulted in both ships crashing.

Certainly looks like the Urns where hitting some kind of invisible shield, maybe the Gold Device on the top of the Cathedral Building produced this?   But indeed it looked like a kind of defense mechanism, a very questionable one at that.. as it appears to have done little to prevent the bombardment

As far as AC goes, I think the CGI for the baby neomorph attacking that lady in the drop ship ruined it a bit for me

It looked so badly done.

But, I think films like this are ruined because the cast are made to act like dumb idiots who slip and fall on every surface and miss targets a couple of feet in front of them when firing guns lol.

Excuse me while I go and play my grand piano and go and fly my aeroplane, but you lot had it lucky. I remember watching Alien on a black and white telly because the licence was’nt as expensive as one of those posh colour licences, and not with one of those fancy outdoor aeriels, but an indoor one that went through a cheap signal booster from Radio Shack. As for remote control, I was the remote control. Lol.

chliAlien: Covenant ForumThe Xenomorph - Asexual and bloodsucking?

“it's eaten too much of me…” doesn’t necessarily mean that the alien has literally eaten from him? It could refer to the resin that the alien throws up, which the hosts are entangled in, dissolves the victims and transforms (morphs) them into eggs? As Ripley finds the cocooned Dallas, parts of him might already have been dissolved? On the other hand, the lair is “full of bones, hair, shreds of flesh, pieces of clothing, and shoes” suggests that the alien has eaten (parts) of them?

In “Sea of Sorrows” (canon?) we get to “hear” the aliens thinking (and the main character is telepathic) and the aliens “say” that they use the victims both as food and as hosts for their offspring.

In “The Weyland-Yutani Report” it says that the xenomorph is asexual and I suppose we must take this as canon?

chliAlien: Covenant ForumThe Beacon - and Mother

I made an error when I wrote this topic. The Nostromo must have arrived at LV-426 sometime in June. One interesting thought is that since no one had intercepted the signal before, it makes it possible that the eggs there weren’t that old and could be connected to David (even if many of us don’t like it). But as cuponator3000 points out, Sir Peter Weyland and David was apparently aware of the signal even before the Prometheus expedition (starting 2091). In fact, LV-426 was discovered as early as 2039. Why wasn’t the signal recorded then (or was it)?

As Ingeniero points out, the concept of “Advent” is interesting. Is it to be interpreted as the coming of the new god - David (and his disciples, the xenomorphs)? There are some other interesting things in the transmission log. There is a signal boost in Gliese (20 light years away with exoplanets). What is LV-138 - a colonized planet?

Well, I was born in 86 and in a communist country, so I must probably seen my first Alien movie on cable in the mid 90s, on a GoldStar (later LG) tv (size? Who does remember ....). I had an Alien movie before DVDs.

Well that's boring, but if you want to see something interesting featuring the Alien series please check out the Chuck Norris vs Communism documentary (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2442080/?ref_=nv_sr_1) exploring the way Romanians consumed American pop culture in the 80s/ early 90s.

1994 technology?! Oh- you were lucky. I had an RCA tube TV with a small speaker somewhere inside the set from the 80s. And it was in mono with no EQ options. It had a channel knob and volume dial that gave static when turning it.  Additionally, We had to deal with tracking control since VCRs were all different. Don't get me started on tuning in the red/green and tint :D

We had to compete for viewing time too. My folks wanted to watch Hill Street Blues or Matlock so I had to wait until late. Then, when I could watch I got yelled at for being up too late.

I was also a kid with little income and that's what we had. But we were pretty happy.

You dk and IRaptus may have been rich enough to afford all of that tech.  Not me.  It was hard to make money when I became an Alien fan.  I was lucky to be able to make it out of the house.  I had no money, nor did I own anything.  Plus, to watch Alien for the first time, it had to be by chance. Luckily Alien was a hit, so it got airtime.  Still, it was hard to even get control of what was on TV.  Plus, it was rated R.  I was probably around 5, so maybe around the year 1994.  I remember it as the 1979 Alien.  Yes, I do remember barely being able to contain my fear.  I've been an Alien fan around 25 years or so.  So, I'm around a 25 year old Alien fan.

Can anyone do better than that?

Oh, and obviously it was on a tube TV with no home entertainment system.  It was on standard 1994 technology.

DGAlien: Romulus 2 NewsRidley Scott in tune with where Alien: Covenant 2 will go!

Knowing how long it's going to take before (or if) a third installment is made and a proper conclusion is even permitted, I've already been thoroughly plotting out two fan-produced graphic novels for which I will script and provide rough layouts (seeking other artists in the meantime for the finished product, though). My hope is to share the first GN with everyone by next year's Alien Day because it would be a fun way to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary and give some kind of closure in regards to the overall storyline. My hope is that even if a third movie is made and it's all wrapped up to Ridley Scott's satisfaction, the graphic novels could still be seen as an alternate take very much like Mark Verheiden's post-Aliens comics. Rest assured, there will be a creative, tangible conclusion to these films in at least one format or another.

Michelle JohnstonAlien: Covenant ForumIn defence of alien covenant...

A very entertaining treatise on the movie. I think he is very good at articulating the positive view of the movie without at all investing it with far more weight and significance than is justified, put simply he does not project on to it more than is justified.

The two elephants in the room are :-

1) He dismisses Prometheus for all the reasons I to know it is weak but equally ignores why it is entirely wonderful.

2) In reverse he entirely ignores the main critique of Alien Covenant which it reduces the mythos and the story and the wonderful investment made in the mythos and Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus.

For David to be the space jockey and Weyland-Yutani having been taken over in the intervening years by A I is a limiting view.

For the Engineers to be discovered as offering a mechanical view of creation who suffered a Paradise Lost which W-Y, taken over by a sub created mechanical construct, were trying to control and fail, but where only the greatest elements of mankind's qualities which involve the gift of christ like sacrifice can overcome would have been an astonishingly large canvas in which to place the Xenomorph making it greater and more significant than some wet dream of a robot.

To begin with the acolyte sacrifice which kickstarted, the sacrifice of the pilot and finish with Ellen Ripley sacrifice all of which entwine the notion of mechanical creation and the transcendent quality of soul would have been extra ordinary.

Ridley is taking the ALIEN series and making it the poor mans Bladerunner.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWhy would the Engineers point humans to their military installation?

It appeared to start this way yes...  From Alien Engineers.

If we can imagine we advance ourselves so we are immune to every disease, illness, defect we are basically Engineering Super Humans, with all the best Traits, and NO Defects... though our Advancements and Medicine we now dont live for 70-90 years, but thousands, eventually with such tampering, maybe we loose the ability to Procreate because we can Live for much longer.

But we are not Immortal... a heavy blow, a blast could kill us, jump off a 1000ft drop and we dead,  get our head stuck under a Guillotine and we are Dead..   But our Organs Age say 500X less, we are immune to any Diseases and New Ones we could find Cures Fast... we are Immortal to a degree...  But can still be killed, and still naturally die but we AGE at a much much slower rate.

If this is what became of the Engineers, eventually every Engineer would become a Elder, eventually Elders would die out of OLD Age, this would mean they had to find ways to Procreate?

Maybe they could Clone themselves?  Doing this could create Sterile Engineers though...  so maybe the Sacrificial Route was needed to Create Life in their Image... to eventually save their kind.

I had a theory a long time ago, this was the case, and that the Engineers attempted to create/evolved a Humanoid they could MATE with (if they lost their Females, or Evolved past this)  i felt this fitted with the Fallen Angels and  Genesis 6:4

"The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown"

I felt this was why the Engineer was so interested in Dr Shaw, especially when we see the Extended Scenes, he never killed her or attempted to, but he seemed to want to do with her as David was with Daniels in Alien Covenant.

I made a Topic about Females and Engineers a while back.

But alas AC showed us Females, since the released set photos which made me think these Hybrids are the Intentions the Engineers had with us and ONCE they had now obtained Females to Breed with, that then gave them Engineer/Human Hybrids they can then breed with each other to get to say a Race thats now 75% Engineer or more, but can now Procreate..

ONCE they had this, they DID-NOT need Mankind anymore.

This is what i was drawn to prior to AC coming out at the Box Office.

What is interesting is many months latter we got these concept works by Wayne Haagg and Steve Messing of the Cathedral Dome Entrance.

Notice ANYTHING?

@ignorantGuy

Indeed yes, some older drafts which i have not read yet, do mention such things, we even see in the deleted Scene that the Hanger had many more Engineer ships.

I am glad none of these made it to the movie as they would have raised many many more Plot Holes or Flaws... i mean surely David would have been able to activate one?   Only reason he would not would be he needed Humans or Engineers to return so that he could have Hosts to Create his Xenomorph Army.

When i was working on my Prometheus 2, the state of the Engineer World as far as Civilization, Technology was a massive sticking point for me.  How does David and Shaw turn up at a Advanced Alien Race World and live to tell the tale?   Logically they must had been accepted by the Engineers?  Or their Civilization had been destroyed leaving a few survivors who had to start again?  Or they turned there backs on the Technology.  Or reveal these beings are actually just sub-servant to another Race long gone...

I was attempting to address all of those in  way that fitted, so my Engineer world was not in Pristine Condition and David and Shaw arrived at merely a place the Engineers came from... revealing them as merely pawns to another Race/Agenda.

I feel the Engineer World we see in AC, is kind of similar to what i had in mind, and i feel the world we got fits with the whole Plot, its better this World was not no HR Giger Heavy Sprawling Metropolis as a very HR Giger/LV-223 Tech World, with Millions of Engineers, and Advanced Ships... that are totally against Mankind..

Would really not bold well for us  when we arrive at their Front Door..

RS did say "David would be bringing Hell with him" so thats a great equalizer, but then raise the Flaw of surely the Engineers would be aware of this and have protection?

so its nice that AC we see that actually never did, which leads me to speculate similar to what i was going to run with, with my Prometheus 3, and that this World is not where the HR Giger/Engineer Technology came from.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumALIEN DAY Prologue 'The Crossing' - Arrival Stills

Totally.... Agree.

My points came from a time prior to AC and when the movie came out, and since then a lot had came to light regarding the Protection of the Planet.

And so in that sense, it appeared this World had something that was intended to obscure it from detection.   When we get to the movie though, we do have the weather that maybe makes it hard to detect what is on the surface.

Was this a form of protection, could the erratic Weather and Storms Electromagnetic interference mean that any kind of Civilization would not be able to be detected until someone actually came down to the Surface...?   Certainly works for me, could the Gold Device on the Cathedral Dome Manipulate the Weather?  Certainly could work for me.

If this World had the Protection to the Level the earlier draft indicates (protected by a Structure/Ring) then clearly at the time the Covenant detect the Signal from Dr Shaw, there is nothing that really hides what this place is.

The Covenant was able to determine the World was a Habitable place, even seeming to be more suitable than Origae-6.   So either something had failed to conceal the Planet... or the only concealment was being able to detect what is on the surface due to the interference by the Storms which cant be ruled out as being Manipulated by some Technology.

NASA is currently looking at Earth Like Worlds... we are not advanced enough to be certain those detected are definitely like Earth or LV-223 or Planet 4 at this point.

We currently have no means from distance to determine what some Moons and Planets in our Solar System have, we can speculate their environments. But we can not detect what life if any until we actually send a probe down.

If say A race as advanced as we are now, came to Earth say 4'000 years ago, they would not be able to detect Civilization on Earth until they actually got pretty close and send probes or had Cameras that could ZOOM in like we can on Google Maps/Earth.

If this Race came to earth in the Modern Era since we had Technology like Electricity etc, and so even if they arrived 100 years ago then from a far distance they could detect our Civilization they would not have to get as close as they would if we was say thousands of years behind our Technology now.

With Alien Covenant, it could be and certainly seems the case that something is generating interference so that the only way to detect the World has Life/Civilization would be to get pretty darn close.

Thus without knowing the exact location of Planet 4, it is just a needle in the haystack of Worlds in the Galaxy that could potentially have Life.  So if the Prometheus never went to LV-223, or LV-223 was destroyed...    Then the likelyhood of the Covenant being attracted to go to Planet 4 would be very unlikely.. it appeared only the signal that traveled along with the Nutrino Burst... had alerted the Covenant to its origin being suspicious (take me home tune) which then led to the Covenant checking out the Signal Location and only THEN discovering that it comes from a World that is kind of Earth like.

So if there was a Alien Ship, say 50 years more advanced than we are that happened to be say 20-30 light years from Earth, they may not be able to detect Earth as of Thousands of Years ago...  But with Modern Technology of the last 150 years, it would be more likely that Radio Signals from Earth would travel through space and be detected by a Alien Race that then could determine where it came from and narrow down that needle in a hay stack that Earth would have been.

Maybe against themselves or maybe more specifically a splinter faction? And the arrival of an "alien" rogue artificial being bent on whipping you out is a "black swan" even for an advanced race who we are told that have not invented binary logic. So I don't it is about hubris.

@BigDave

When talking about the mechanical ring are you talking about the '15 prologue script. There are also mentioned ships ten times bigger then David's ship. And other security measure for contamination in the early script is that ships are shut permanently shut off, that is what crashes the Juggernaut (and David seems unable to turn it off in 10 years).

And yes, one of the biggest that the writers refused to answer is why the Engineers stopped visiting earth. They intended to whip it out 2000 years prior, what changed in the mean time?

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumIf David created the classic xenomorph, how did thousands of eggs get aboard the derelict ship in the original Alien?

"hence a connection to the Dark Chrystal as BigDave suggested"

This is just what the Source i had from February 2015 had claimed, that the Prometheus Sequels would be a bit Matrix and Blade Runner but also ripped off a lot of the Dark Crystal Plot...  but this can-not be confirmed until we see a number of Paglen/Green Drafts, especially the Final Draft before Green came in, and the Final Draft by Green.  Until then it cant be taken as more than rumor... even though a lot of what was said adds up... especially as far as many unused ideas and concepts that have cropped up.

My way of looking at the Franchise... is always to consider first the Main Ancient Element... CREATION while RS mentioned a lot that the Engineers are Fallen Angels.... the other thing he mentioned and sticks to more so even to TODAY is the Engineers are Genetic Gardeners of Space.

Which is where i then base my theories off... rather than Aggressive Giants who created us for no reason, or as hosts to the Xenomorphs, who then either wanted us killed by Xenomorph's or created the Black Goo to turn us into Xenomorphs...

When going back to the BASICS the First ACT of Prometheus and Alien Engineers, it comes down to Creation, Evolution, Teaching of Technology.... before something event changed everything.

I think LV-223 is merely a Watch Post, a Nursery/Greenhouse where the Engineers Evolve and Experiment with their Creations and then Seed/Send down their desired Results back to Earth and other Worlds... before SOMETHING happened.

The Star Maps are in essence saying "this is where YOU was created from"

I dont know how to Reply to some of this ;) This could get very lengthy ;)

"Hints of an older third race are present across the franchise. I believe even Mr. *cough* "I don't give a shit!" *achoo* said something along those lines."

I think at the basis, which started with Alien Engineers, a lot of things get changed as they go along... its hard to keep up with the many U-Turns...

Going to that comment, i think we can look at RS comments after Prometheus,  he had refereed to the Engineers as Fallen Angels which logically has to conclude...

*They are Fallen Angels because well Demons are Evil SOB's so Engineers are Malevolent beings too, hence reference.

*The Engineers are a Sub-Order of Hierarchy or even a lesser being created by another who then Rebelled against their Creators/Hierarchy as far as the Agenda and Ambitions of their Creators/Hierarchy.  This fits well in continuation to how Mankind had behaved towards the Engineers and Seeds of how David now is with Mankind and thus i feel this is the reasons for the Fallen Angel Comment.

RS mentioned after Prometheus that he DID-NOT want to meet God in the First movie, regarding the Removal of the Elders Scene.  This means that

*Engineers are not Gods, they serve a higher power/race and purpose.

*The Elders are maybe the Hierarchy/Gods or RS intends to replace the Elders with something more Godlike.

Ridley Scott also mentioned that Dr Shaw and David will be going to the Planet of the Engineers were they will meet/find these beings, who ARE-NOT Gods, not in the traditional sense and these beings are far from Benevolent.

*This would indicate we would meet a Race/Beings who are above the Engineers, but who are also not Benevolent.  The Question is in what regards?  In general, or just as we would perseve based on our Role..  So would Humans be considered Evil, because we Slaughter Animals for Food?   To the Animals its not a Benevolent Act, but to us its a requirement for our Survival.

So it is interesting to see what was planned... even prior a few months to Alien Covenant, RS had mentioned that.

*If the Engineers are the Forerunners to Mankind, then what makes it possible for the Engineers to be able to do what they do as in Seed Worlds... so he was talking about what makes Worlds Suitable to be used to create Life... he then asks... so where is the BIG GUY he then continued to mention was the Big Bang a Accident? and that Stephen Hawkings seemed to think NOT

This is kind of hinting to us that there is more above and beyond the Engineers, that there is some reason for why Worlds Exist or at the very least how some Worlds are able to support Life (Terraforming) and so it paints a picture that there was/is some other LEVEL of the Hierarchy above the Engineers, and the Engineers creation could be merely to Seed Worlds.

I will come back after to tackle a few more comments recently that are very interesting on this thread...

im not discrediting what ur saying, I totally agree they are an arrogant naïve race which is ultimately what will be their downfall but its maybe more accurate to say they were that arrogant they didn't believe any race would pose any real threat to them so they didn't feel any truly aggressive defences were required. theres so much missing from the franchise

but they must have given protection some serious level of thought as they seem to be able to hide the planet which would only really be for protection. so could there have been another space travelling race that the engineers took into account at the time of developing and setting that up? basically if they feared no one and never thought that mankind would evolve far enough to travel the stars, why hide the planet? also the weather on planet 4 is believed to be a artificially produced. if this is a form of defence, again, who is this intended for?

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumALIEN DAY Prologue 'The Crossing' - Arrival Stills

In earlier drafts it appears the planet was surrounded by a Mechanical Ring, that acted as some kind of Protection.

We can see as they are Shoe-Horning the sequel to Prometheus to connect to Alien, i.e set up events post 2094-2122 for the Derelict and Alien Egg Cargo....  then they needed to introduce a Human Element (Covenant ship) and so Planet 4 would have to be made at a distance that is reachable for Mankind after Prometheus 2094 but years prior to Alien in 2122

It is odd that more better defenses were not around, but i had my theory that would make sense to this...

Basically the Planet 4 Engineers are chosen as Sacrifices, and the whole Urns/Juggernaughts are a Evolution of the Seeding Process rather than Tear Drop ship and drop off a lone Engineer on a World.

Basically these beings felt that without their interaction and knowledge, Mankind would Advance no further than the Level they was at when they abandoned us...  hence we would still today be no more advanced than Mankind was thousands of years ago..

What a HUBRIS this was... a Naive Race who are so arrogant that they overlook the need for Protection.

so the elders in the deleted scenes are the gods and were only taken out as RS decided it was too early to reveal them and they can no longer reproduce so through bio-manipulation they create others (engineers, humans etc) in their image which would live on? the engineers on planet 4 were THE original batch or at least the offspring/ descendants of the originals?

Very thoughtful.... i was intending to do a Easter Egg Post that covers some of that, that is there something bigger at play?  As RS mentioned when he announced Alien: Paradise Lost (prior to Alien Covenant)  he mentioned if the Engineers are the forerunners to Mankind, then what made it possible for Worlds to be able to support this.. (Engineers Seeding) he asked... where is the BIG GUY (GOD)  and he also mentioned the Big Bang, was it a Accident?  He mentions that Stephen Hawking (R.I.P) seems to think NOT..

So my ideas for TWO Alien Covenant sequels would Tease something greater at play, but not by giving much away...  My plot would leave the Door open to Explore what is the Divine Element, it would touch on the ALIEN 1979 Poster...   and also touch upon the Beginning..

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWhy would the Engineers point humans to their military installation?

". possibly the engineers are this slave labour? "

Certainly possible... i think we need to look at the wider themes at play...  WHY WAS DAVID CREATED?

Here are the logical reasons, starting with what the movie showed us, then going to other logical reasons.

1) Because we could... because Weyland could?  i am not 100% sure on this, i feel yes in part.  I think its more to also show that Weyland doing this is a great achievement for himself, it leaves a Legacy, it gives Weyland Pride to say.. "you see this being, i created him, showing that we can be Gods too"  This fits with the Ozymandias poem, as after his death, its looking on to his WORKS that allows his Legacy to live on... but in time these too disappear with little trace.

2) We see David is a Tool/Servant.  This would actually be one of the main reasons for Mankind Eventually creating Robots/Androids.. to carry out tasks that would save Humans having to do them.

3) Worship.... this caries on more for above but maybe does not apply much to maybe how and why Mankind would create Synthetics.

4) Companionship....  simply to create a Life so that one has a Companion, i feel the creation of Synthetics in future will forfill this kind of Role.

4) Immortality/Greater Course for Survival.* This is my own conclusion, i feel Weylands Ultimate aim was to Cheat Death, and if he could Create/Perfect the Perfect Synthetic Host Body, and then find a way for himself to upload his SOUL into this Synthetic Vessel than Weyland would have became IMMORTAL so to speak.

When we take the above and apply it to various creation Mythos and Themes, we can see a number of these MATCH the Agenda for the Creation in various Religions/Mythos... not every Religions/Mythos matches all those reasons, but everyone matches at least 1-2 of them.

So then can we start to apply those to the Engineers Agenda?  I think so...

Ridley Scott calls those Planet 4 Engineers the Original Engineers, and they live for 150 years... they also have Females.

Prometheus and the drafts which include Alien Engineers, point us to a Ancient Race who had Evolved themselves so far that Procreation was not needed, and they LOST this ability... but while indicated they could LIVE for Many Thousands of years... they are NOT immortal so eventually they would DIE OUT... and so they would need to find ways to Procreate.

Alien Covenant kind of can introduce this, as leaving us to ponder those Planet 4 Engineers are Hybrids of Humans and Engineers, which could reveal the whole AGENDA for our Creation.... and make perfect sense with Prometheus.

HOWEVER.... Ridley Scotts comments on the Planet 4 Engineers being the Original, and with his comments in Prometheus regarding the removal of the Elders Scene (he did not want to meet GOD in the first movie)...  These maybe now draw us to conclude the Prometheus Engineers where a Engineered/Advanced version of the Engineers, where they was Genetically Manipulated and THUS.... the Prometheus Engineers to the Alien Covenant ones, are maybe like Replicants to Humans.

So in effect the LV-223 Engineers could be more closer to David, as in a Tool Engineered by their Creators for a certain purpose.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumThe Xenomorph - Asexual and bloodsucking?

When looking at Asexual Reproduction i would like to come back to the Hammerpedes, if we ASSUME this Worms are like a number of Worms found on Earth,  and the Black Goo basically took their Regenerative Trait to the Next Level....    Then could  it also use the Procreation Traits of the Worms?

The common Earth Worm, is a Hermaphrodite it requires a mate to fertilize the Eggs, so TWO Worms Mate and then both have their Eggs Fertilized and these Eggs Grow inside them, not too dissimilar to the Queen Xenomorphs Egg Sack etc

In Prometheus we saw TWO Hammerpedes together, can we speculate that these Organisms had mated and now both have Eggs?

Why would the Hammerpede had gone down Milburns Throat?

In my Re-write of Prometheus i addressed this by revealing a Hammerpede that gets shot, and we see a Egg Sack with tiny Xenomorph like Eggs inside, and also Milburn has a Chest Buster, to highlight the Hammerpedes had in effect laid a Egg that Evolves into a Morph.

This was because i felt the Hammerpede was a Strong Candidate to explain the Chest Busted Cryo-Pods

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumThe Xenomorph - Asexual and bloodsucking?

I think it comes down to not having a set of RULES to follow for how the Morphs work, and their life-style etc, so what we have is free-range for each movie to change things to suit the Director/Writers.

I think AC shows the Xenomorph and Neomorphs to merely be Predators who will just going around attacking and killing Organisms like Bloodthirsty killers....   It appears the Neomorph was having a bite to eat/blood and well it makes sense as a Organism has to gain some Fuel/Energy.   We KNOW nothing about Neomorph Procreation so we cant really be sure HOW/IF the Neomorph can Procreate, we could ponder does it need Blood for this Process? But we have no way to use this as any Factual Basis, the same is for if it needed Energy from Food like most Organisms do.

Alien the Xenomorph was shown to just go around killing people too, its only the DC where we see its agenda was Procreation, the Novel and Earlier Drafts indicate it required Food to Grow.   So when combined and looking at the BLACK GOO maybe we can speculate the Xenomorph requires DNA/Food in order to Procreate.  So that maybe eating/blood draining is needed for it to then use this Biological Substance to then aid it in Procreation...  maybe they need Genetic Material in order to use its Body to then turn this matter (Organic consumes matter from a prey) into the substance they use to construct hives or manipulate a Host into a Egg Morph.

The Question is how does all Morphs from the Black Goo Procreate, do they all have some same basic needs?  or is each Organism different?

BigDaveAlien: Covenant Forumwhy do chestbursters have eyes?

It appears they have sensory organs where eyes/ears would be located but we can only assume how close these opperate to what eyes/ears would.

some concepts for various Xenomorph type Organisms have shown eyes, but those used on screen apart from the New-Born appear to have no actual eyes per say....  apart from the Xenomorph in Alien having a Human Skull (eye Sockets) under the Carapace Dome.

ali81Alien: Romulus 2 NewsAn exciting announcement coming Alien Day 2018!

bigdave, id say number 1 and number 7 go hand in hand but if they arnt going to show us anything about the engineers then I would like a spin off alien film focusing on this. if we don't get anything then I cant say how disgusted and let down I will feel. as for the upcoming news, more concept art? meh, doesn't tweek my interest at all. wev seen so many and loads are fantastic and would have made for better alternatives than what we got but now it just seems like time filler

I guess after squeezing the rhines , it would be Dallas- there is a job to do with a crew for whom you are responsible for their safety, welfare and morale- also the mission of delivering the cargo. It would require a balanced yet adjustable mindset.
