Well if the cave is not part of the Derelict, which for proportions sake it couldn't be, then the crash in the trailer could NOT be LV426. As the ship come to a stop on solid unplanned ground.
So I reckon we're definitely at least dealing with 2 planets.

Here's the question: Did the thing that burst out of the space-jockey make the eggs? Or were the eggs already there, being transported as bio-chem weapons?
What came first, the alien or the egg?
When RS says the derilict is filled with weapons, I 'think' he wants us to believe the eggs are the weapons...but who is to say ? I think the ampules contain the original bio-weapon and something goes very, very, wrong... with some almost human help....Androids are bio-mech... imagine that combination... Love this Forum!

Doubt the ships are the same. They really look different when looking at the one in Alien and the one in the trailer. Unless there is damage that we do not see in the trailer they may very well be different scenes. One crashes, one is picking up eggs from their underground environmentally protected storage. This one perhaps lands but the SJ dies due to the critter inside of it and never gets off the ground. Picking them up to deliver to earth?
ReplyLexsidious Prometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned this before. I noticed when watching Alien that the Derelict....its front prongs of the ship are about 50 to 75 meters from the ground. In the Prometheus trailer one of those prongs can be seen crashing/sinking into the ground.
ReplyRamskull666Prometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
If the ship has maximum 2 - 3 decks, it could work. A diagram here shows a conjectural placement of the Cockpit and Egg Chamber:

ReplyRamskull666Prometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
I'm still open to the option its a cavern, but perhaps the perspective between the sets and the original concept art for the ship are out a little...
ReplyBazingaPrometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
I guess the chamber could be in the ship but the perspective is difficult to see. The curve is similar, the design elements are the same but it sure looks bigger than the ship in the trailer. There really must only be a "bridge" and engines. The rest would have to be storage (at least down one section that we see in the original Alien).
ReplyRamskull666Prometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
Yes Bazinga, my thoughts exactly...
ReplyNephilim_LV426Prometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
The hole that leads to the egg chamber from the SJ room is irregular and does not fit in with the design of the rest of that room. It looks like it was acid burned when it started. This is a foreboding of the face-hugger acid we will later see burning through the decks of the Nostromo.

As to the depth of the egg chamber, I think we are supposed to believe it is still within the rounded top area of the derelict. (Nicely diagrammed Ramskull666). Also, notice how the blue protective light covering the eggs is just one section of a massive rounded area that has multiple sections...for what purpose...?
ReplyRickPrometheus ForumDerelict ship in Alien. . .Feb 1, 2012
Ramskull,
There is an issue with that. The 3 entered the derelict through the vaginal openings in the front middle of the ship. If the egg chamber is where you are saying it is in your diagram then they came in through the egg chamber. In order for the cavern to curve to the right and then back to the left the SJ chair would have to be positioned on the left side of the hammer head. Another issue that is posed here is that the cavern is heated meaning there is still a viable power supply on the derelict. Where is the power core at and how come the Nostromo couldn't pick up on a power source? I also don't think the novelisation dimensions are accurate stating the cave is 130ft high. If you look at Kane going down into the cavern that thing is at least 300ft deep if you figure Kane is around 6ft and he looks like an ant in the picture.
Regards,
Rick

So I think its an underground cavern that the derelict opened up and the structural work on the cave walls could have been built by the SJ Spawn under the ship.

@ Frantz......yes, "A.I." seems to polarize people. Folks seem to either hate it or love it. I think it's a film which will ultimately grow in stature over time. It does have a great deal to say about the human condition.
ReplyGigerFacePrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
@Juxtapose, I would think with your username you be a proponent of comparing Ridley's ALIEN and Cameron's Aliens?! lol jk, but I do think we've spent too much time ranting about ALIEN vs Aliens, when in all honesty both films are amazing! But I have one last thing to say on the matter and this is coming directly from your article. Cameron himself says that Ridley's film is superior - "He (Ridley) made the two most iconic science-fiction films of the 20th century." Nuff said, I guess! Regardless, I'm glad Cameron inspired Ridley to return to what he does best and that's making astounding Science Fiction films!
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
I think It shoud be the other way around, Cameron should be inspired by Scott and his work.

"I actually felt Salvation is like Aliens, in that it’s a fan making a sequel to a movie they loved."
I think that's proof enough Cameron was inspired by Ridley.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
We can like or not like cameron movies ...but he deliver ... he didnt ruin his reputation like ...mmmm mr george-something did ...and hes much more humble .
HOWEVER there is some risks in that "relactionship" with cameron....sometimes Ridley is carried away with the cinematography and forget some other parts ....
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
meanwhile ...today AICN revealed that probably Scott next movie will be The Counselor based on a McCarthy novel ....so no Bladerunner and no Prometheus sequels for now ??
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
yeah the blade runner sequel is speculated to being made in 2014 the earliest.
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=44687
"The soonest Kosove could see the movie beginning shooting is early 2013 - it would take at least 18 months to hire a writer, get a script in working order under Scott's guidance, cast the film and move into production. Either way, that means a new "Blade Runner" wouldn't be in theaters until 2014 at the earliest."
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
Both things destroy a bit the possibility of a prometheus sequel with Scott at the helm ... ( maybe cameron ?? lol )
ReplyGehirnPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
Yeah, Cameron is always a safe pair of hands.
Though I feel there is already somebody out there, somewhere, writing a Jockey vs Navi script and they need to be stopped!
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
btw if ive to go with a director to make a prometheus sequel i will go with duncan jones ... both Moon and Source code are brillant ...both are deep , disturbing without being gross and with deep humatiny ( of course source code at the end is a bit of a mess )
ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
We need less sequels, and more production of original sci-fi properties, because there are numerous literary classics just waiting for translation from print to film. Morgan Freeman has been trying to produce a movie version of Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama" for years, and I think Niven's "Ringworld" series could make for a truly epic, visionary film ( or films. ) We get too many highly derivative stories like "Avatar" and childish pablum like "Transformers" when there's clearly an audience for more thought-provoking pieces like "Gattaca," "A.I." and "District 9."
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
yes district 9 was good that slipped my memory i'm interested to see what that guy will do next.
i found gattaca hard work but i'm not keen on any jude law film but it was at least original and on the whole a very good script well executed.
same with ai i would have loved kubrick to have been around to complete that.
ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
Kubrick was wise to have Spielberg direct. In fact, he insisted on it. Kubrick couldn't have created the pathos necessary for that particular story to work, because his approach to human emotions was too clinical. Ever watch "Eyes Wide Shut?" ;) I actually thought "A.I." was more than dark enough.
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
i watched eyes wide shut yesterday evening it was on here in the uk not his best film for me shame it was his last .
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
gattaca was a nice script but i did found it very empty ... distring 9 was excellent . ... AI was atrocious to me .
Btw yes better original movies .
Replyalteredstate.Prometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
mmmm well kubrick has a fantastic film resume under his belt a great legacy of classics from spartacus to Dr..stangelove to 2001 to full metal jacket he truly was a master film maker.
ReplyartyohPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012
@alteredstate: Oh I totally agree. "2001" and "Dr. Strangelove" are my two all-time favorite films.......but there's a reason Kubrick's sense of humor favored a "black" satirical take on human folly/armageddon and that he never directed a romantic comedy.
ReplyCinefanPrometheus ForumJames Cameron Inspires Ridley ScottFeb 1, 2012

ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumSpace Jokey chair and helmet explanationFeb 1, 2012
Some observations...
The head/helmet does not go where it is indicated in exhibit 'B'.
The head/helmet would rest directly beneath the protruding display thing you can see at the bottom-right of the exhibit 'B' frame.
But I guess this is all inconsequential to your argument.
ReplyJeffomorphPrometheus ForumSpace Jokey chair and helmet explanationFeb 1, 2012
I think we've all seen the ampule room picture with Noomi and Katie bent over examining the head/helmet and the rest of the space jockey laying on the ground to the right. I'm assuming this head/helmet is the one they are examining in the lab on the trailer.
That being said..
If the back of the Space Jockeys head/helmet is part of the chair, then how did the jockey from the ampule room get out of the chair?
