(Hell has broken loose. Father- the ship's computer calmly states and initiates evacuation protocols).
Father- Emergency. Initiate evacuation procedures immediately. All hands. This is not a drill. (It is also neither a hammer nor saw- rim shot!)
I'll probably enjoy it more than Covenant simply because i know what i'm getting into this time. I came to see Covenant expecting a proper Prometheus sequel (in terms of themes) and an Alien film but what i got was more like Blade Runner with xenos. Expectations is everything.
I do agree with the others though, this is Alien not Terminator. I really wish he would make a spinoff type of thing and leave the xenos and engineers out of it. An AI story with creatures and themes of creation is very interesting but having to connect all this to Alien lore is like shooting yourself in the foot creatively. Take the cuffs off Ridley and give this subject the attention it deserves.
Although he says he's shifting the story, there's still a lot of unanswered questions, making this departure very difficult to realize. Also Fox, don't put Alien in the title please.
Just my two cents.
I dont think hes talking about AI in the traditional sense. The black goo is a form of AI after all.
I agree with Thoughts_Dreams. Like i said in the other thread, this is called Alien not Terminator in Space.
It is still a Bender on a bender- owned by FOX.
That were the computers not Shaw, but that was already ret-con in AC, as David says somewhere (in Advent?) that he had the most success with Shaw's DNA when experimenting with the Goo, which does not makes much if you consider the engineers as genetically human.
dk
that is Bender Bending Rodríguez, Fox's other Bender.
I'm really sorry, but Ridley Scott is over :(
If next movie is all about David again, then don't exploit the name of Alien. Aliens in Covenant looked like they don't have any intelligence at all. And the same about the whole Covenant crew. Just call it David (who sucks out brains of any life form) and make it a soap opera. Alien 1979 was great, Prometheus was ok. Please don't ruin it.
red0guy@gmail.com:
But they could change that so Shaw was wrong and that they are like 70% like us genetically. That would be a lot better.
No, it is this Fox Bender:

Red0guy@gmail.com:
Maybe that but it seems delusional to me given how Prometheus and AC turned out. Some people might still put all their trust in Scott but that is like how they trusted the leaders in Animal farm (if you have read that book) to do the right tings even though it went to shit.
Foxbender, issat a reference to a busty kitzune? ;P First terminators and now yokai. That went way off track. hehe
Well in Prometheus, the Engineers were genetically human...
But it is seems that Fox trusts RS to break new grounds with the new movie. So bring in the all Foxbender cast already!!!
I would rather see a movie about the Engineers and how they are connected to the Xeno and that it will be more about humans that AI. If they will write less about humans I hope that they will make the Engineers more interesting because I don't want a movie about AI, AC made that idea boring. Maybe it will be excusable if they kill David half into the movie or early in it.
I agree with Joylitt on this one
Thanks for saying guys!! :D
Yeah, it's a long book, and at one point I almost decided to make it a two-section piece with ALIEN: Manticore as well as ALIEN: Manticore 'Paradise' included. :D
However, that would have really delayed things, and could have caused other problems for readers, so I went back to the plan of releasing each as it's own work.
ALIEN: MANTICORE 'Paradise' is on my worktable, as is a short story I've had hanging around for a while which explores what I think is a satisfyingly different historical connection between The Alien and the Engineers...and can easily tie into the present-canon of David having been playing with trying to recreate certain past discoveries of the Engineers whilst still preserving The Alien as the magnificent nightmare it is. ;)
Tiwaz: :D
MonsterZero: Gas left in the Xeno? Made from digested beans? ;)
I am having too much fun now. No offense MZ
red0guy: :D
I seriously hope that they at Fox will understand how many that puke at the direction that the franchise has taken now so they will try to not keep the most ridiculous ideas in the movie. They should try to keep Scott from putting his most dumb ideas in the next movie so it won't end up being a complete turd.
IRaptus Oh I agree...There's plenty of gas left in the Xenomorph tank.....But with only one more movie left...I'm afraid there is very little they(RS, Logan)can do. It'll be the same old snarling beast. :-(
I myself would take the action underground.
Advanced civilizations build underground(tombs/cities) away from prying eyes and asteroid strikes. Tombs of the Engineers.
Having the freedom to run from a monster in a open field is no fun! Dark dead end caves are better. No escape. Always liked Aliens when the Xenomorphs entered the room above them! have the Xenos come at you from all angles.
Metal springs then? *boing boing boing* XD
David the poopinator
Tiwaz: Well human crap looks like.. eh.
Let's say that androids eat metal and it gets processed in their "stomachs" (in " " since it is not a real stomach) it would probably end up like a thinner and less heavy version of it, like metal foil maybe?
They made the AI too human, even its stomach. :D
An army of pooping androids lead by fuhrer David the uber-pooper. :D
At least I can make fun of the movie if it turns out to be real shit, like malice I guess.
Uhm... Btw what does adroid poop look like? ... lol
Poor old HAL, trying to do what's right and driven mad by contradicting directives, given to him by man. That's an AI i feel sorry for.
DK: Sure, if they will throw poop at eachother. :D
Movie title: The poop-wars of the androids
Thank you!
I'll need some extra days containing 48 hours each, but that's OK, I'll jump into it. :)
Iraptus:
I respect your opinion but what makes me kind of angry is when they try to spend 75% of a two hour movie at an android. Sure they have been important in the franchise since day one but no movie has been centered around AI before they made Prometheus. I don't care if Scott thinks that it is interesting, I don't think that it is good to spend most of a movie that is two hours at an android with creator madness because there is no way that I can see myself in him or feel sympathy for him, sorry I just can't and because of that it gets boring. The direction that this is taking now is just crap.
Since we are going hog wild, how about David 8 vs HAL 9000?
Good, David is the best part of these movies imo.
*grins* You're welcome, TD.
I'm sure there will be a lot of human characters in the movie: around 2000 colonists from the Covenant, plus crew members of a new ship, etc.
Plus imagine the number of the possible new alien creatures, mutants, etc.
And the revenge of the Engineers with some exciting and clever space battle scenes.
Probably it will be the most interesting Alien movie.
“I mean this called ALIEN not TERMINATOR IN SPACE. What comes next, Schwarzenegger in a wheelchair, throwing toothpicks at a queen while shouting "I'll be buck!"? “
:D :D
I am laughing so much at the thought of that. Thanks Tiwaz
I despise the route that the franchise is taking now.
I would rather see a parody of Terminator rather than a new movie that is trying to be serious that is focusing on David. There are some years left until the next movie is out and I am already worried that it will make AVP look good, yes seriously.
IMO David as an AI is an interesting antagonist for that very reason Thoughts_Dreams. His absolute apathy and total lack of understanding of suffering and pain makes him terrifying.
As Ash said in the original film quoted by another synthetic...
I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.
I feel Ridley is applying this idea to David as well as the Xenomorph. But where the Xenomorph is a true neutral entity - indiscriminately killing with the simple objective of propagating its species, David is more of a neutral evil. He has an agenda and that makes him much more sinister and dangerous.
Tiwaz You are correct that he says lots of things. I cannot site a specific interview.
The Rapture idea sounds interesting and something RS would excel in, given his repertoire of such films.
I don't want another movie focused on AI. I want a movie with good human characters. He is trying to make a movie that is worse than Covenant, I bet that it is what he is trying to do. Keep him away from this if it will be the AI show. Sorry for being emotional but I want to puke on the direction where they are going, someone stop him please.
Who can see themselves in an AI? I can't, that is why it is important to have sympathetic human characters.
He did, dk? Must've missed that one. On the other hand I started ignoring Ridley's "lost plots" since he says a lot of "things" when the day is long. TBH I just hope this is just another blackout...
I mean this called ALIEN not TERMINATOR IN SPACE. What comes next, Schwarzenegger in a wheelchair, throwing toothpicks at a queen while shouting "I'll be buck!"?
