If Shaw had reciprocated David's feelings, I believe things would have turned out differently.

Ati I haven't read the novel but David has never been trustworthy for anything except to ruin/end lives. He is a proven liar. It might be interesting if he honestly tries to help out at some point but no one believes him because of his history. That would be a strange twist.

There is an Alien head at the back of the Engineers skull, behind the human infant. There's also a Facehugger behind the teeth and an Aliens dorsal tube coming at the bottom of the neck.
In fact looking at this poster makes me think that it was done by the same artist that did the awesome xenomorph and engineer poster that was released just before Alien Covenant.

Ingeniero, I guess "...would not live to confirm the ship’s arrival at Origae-6..." refers to Yutanis age. Wich should be "considerable", remember the part when he was dining with his daughter and the following "talk" to his dead wife (Covenants travel time + comm delay).

"I just hope they dont see the Engineers and David as being less important than the Xenomorphs and making a connection to Ripley."
We are on the same page BigDave. I do believe Ridley Scott is developing concepts for the long game and we can be thankful that he said the words "Engineers will be in the next film" or something close to that.
I certainly would trade a mystery revelation related to Ripley for an update on the Engineers, David 8, and Dr. Shaw saying "no, not happening" to David 8 in regards to his plans for her internal organs.
That had to be a spat for the ages.
IngenieroAlien: Covenant ForumMajor Prequel Novel SpoilerOct 1, 2017Reply
The first thing I did with my prequel novel was to display my impatience and thumb through the whole book looking for an interaction in between David 8 and Dr. Shaw Michelle Johnston.
I kept doing this as I read the book just to check and see if there was an Engineer or David/Shaw section.
I figured David 8 and Dr. Shaw had to leave LV-223 pretty quick or come up with a plan to domesticate the Deacon alien. This aspect does peak my interest as far as their story leading toward what we were shown in Alien: Covenant. I would feel a little shorted if what we saw of Dr. Shaw is complete. I guess it is smart to not get too attached to characters in this universe if they all get chewed up eventually.

That sure is the truth Tiwaz.
Hideo Yutani is a fresh breath of air in the story. I certainly love the Peter Weyland character traits and I'm very excited to learn what was meant in the end (page 315) with what Hideo Yutani would live to see (or not).

Denis Villeneuve is probably the one who should take over from Ridley Scott. But not yet. Ridley Scott has to finish the prequels because, let's agree, at this moment there is no one who can do it better.

I am not even half-way through the prequel novel and it is, like, reading something out of Balderunner. The novel is insteresting, but I honestly don't like the bladerunner feel! I am not a supporter (per say) of the franchises melting together. The Alien canon has been damn fluid for, like, ever! Especially recently. Now, if a Bladerunner/Alien merger occurs, we are in for another shift in mythology and continuity. Well, more the continuity part.

"The general opinion seems to be its a well written story...", that up for debate. Personally I found it interesting but as an Alien novel it was a bit odd, given the absence of Aliens. For me the most interesting character was Hideo Yutani. He reminded me of a temperate Oyabun, totally different from megalomaniac Weyland.
1) The Prometheus is regarded as missing/lost, so is Sir Perter Weyland. As far as I'm aware the book doesn't address Weylands "knowledge". Moreover the dialogues suggest that even Yutani isn't aware of it, at least not yet.
2) Correct.
As for David/Shaw, their absence didn't make it "interesting" for me. There's however a short episode between Daniels and Walter that had a David/Shaw-vibe to it.

It is not impossible for David to have all available data about primitive lifeforms from Earth. However only the first letters are missing, so it might be a clue that David's symphony was off.
ignorantGuyAlien: Covenant ForumChestburster 1979 Drawn by DavidOct 1, 2017Reply
The missing words are not all there is, trilobites might not even (they seems to be classified as relatives to spiders) be crustaceans. And where did David learn ancient Earth biology and why? Logic be damned, it is cool so we keep it.
So this makes it official, we will no longer have bug hunts but rather lobster hunts?
SuperAlienAlien: Covenant ForumChestburster 1979 Drawn by DavidOct 1, 2017Reply
There are some letters missing there: (c)rustacea, (c)hasmataspidida, (p)alpigradi, hexapoda (t)rilobita, (t)racheata, (p)ancrustacea. I am not sure why so many missing letters in such a short scientific description and how reliable these notes can be. However it seems it's about fossil arthropods with tracheal respiration.
joylittAlien: Covenant ForumHow warfare in the Blade Runner universe could be used in Alien'sOct 1, 2017Reply
dk I don't think so. This scene is more like a clandestine operation where Luv is giving Agent K a "little help" because his investigation is of interest for her boss. There is apparently an impending war ready to burst out if certain information obtained by Agent K sees the light of day. But I don't think it would be type of war that you mention.

"So all we were left with was some criminal activity, kidnapping, hostage situations and people shooting at others to try and delay/stop a mission because some crazy dreamer is scared we'll meet aliens who will come to earth and kill us all.
If you're an Alien fan then read it for the small morsels of world building in the universe but otherwise its a kind off out of place story set in the Alien universe."
This is from a review on Goodreads. The general opinion seems to be its a well written story, Lope is the main character and Daniels is cameo role. However the above remarks suggest that the book is not :-
1) Responding to the disastrous Prometheus mission or any speculations surrounding it or that the newly merged company picked up or responded to Peter Weyland's archives and "what he knew'
2) The only potential thematic connection with the A L I E N universe is the warnings of the vision.
Obviously the really interesting element of a prequel to Covenant the Shaw/David narrative is entirely absent.
For those who have read it with out spoiling a read are these observations broadly accurate?
