Blackwinter-witch - :D - Yes, great news! I was so sure that they would say something after the Japanese first weekend.
And what if i covered the news in a similar way to the AVP website, whose article includes the following:
"Talking about the situation and potential future films, Fred Baron recently told the Sydney Morning Herald: “It got great reviews and was everything we set out for it to be, it just didn’t hit the note at the box office. It will be a profitable film for the studio but whether there’s another one [is uncertain].”
Thank-you!! :D
Man, I am really excited about the new from FOX about continuing on with the franchise as well as the Short Fils discussed in another thread!!! :D
He had a LONG career, including 4 works in this year. Man, he'll be Missed!!
Blackwinter-witch - Awesome! Congratulations! :)
Ati Yeah I know. Now imagine that I had used the word "villains", you would be accusing me of "repackaging" the news in a misleading way.
ALIEN: Manticore is DONE, complete!! :D
The story and epilogue are complete.
All that's needed is a Final Edit/Proofreading, then I publish it on Scribd as I have my other works.
Thank-you for the mention!!
Also, just to say, ALIEN: Manticore is done. The story and epilogue are complete.
Now, the Final Editing pass then it's getting published.
If FOX wants to use/borrow my ideas, well, they know where to find me. :D
Let's look at the original text:
'It was a disappointment, but I trust Ridley [Scott] and Emma [Watts] to know the right story when they find it. When universes are as rich as “Alien,” they can stay in a too familiar groove — in which case you’re in trouble — but they can also find a planet or a storyline or a villain that also lives in that universe that can be groundbreaking.'
There is no focus on the word 'villain', David is not mentioned. She says: ...a planet or a storyline or a villain...
Chris uses plurals since he understands (well) that Snider is speaking about the future Alien movies as well.
But it's not so important - the important thing is that we are happy because you are ecstatic. :D :D
Ati Oh so it seems you cannot read the source? The source does not mention "villains" it mentions a new "villain". But if you prefer, so you get the picture more clearly:
Old villain = David = Box office poison
New villain who can be groundbreaking = ? = Hope for something new
Lone - My pleasure. :)
'they are all so cute' - So true! :)
Lone - :D -- And look at his hands, he is an expert. :)
Sometimes I feel joylitt lives in a parallel universe since every line is interpreted in a different way in her comments and topics.
no prioritize/not for the sequel/uses still onboard/3 page draft??? insider info? in May Scott said it was being written!/of course there will be new writers - no surprise/why is it a clear sign?/downplayed-dropped - Of course! We know it will be the last David chapter./etc.
Look at Chris' version (using plurals) from the main page:
'The trick going forward, as Snider explains, will be finding ways to break new ground and explore new stories and new villains within this highly expansive and relatively unexplored cinematic universe:'
Beyond doubt, joylitt's information repacking skills should be taught at university. :)
Lol Ati Ridley is fantasising about that flute being a Cuban Cohiba!
wow that's pretty damn awesome!
Ingeniero do you have the Weyland-Yutani Report book?
I ordered one last night thanks to a tip-off from a member about where to find some great reliable/canon info on ship specs and the like :)
Anything but him being killed by his own creation cliche or a rewriting of the Tannhauser opera (Wagner yet again), which curiously has a Elizabeth character in it). For me they could:
1. Ret-con the fact that these 2 movies are prequels and make David wipe out life in the universe (too Carpenter like?).
2. Make him be punished (by the gods) like the mythological Prometheus, to live forever but be chained (dismembered) and tortured for his transgressions.
3. Make Covenant Shaw's hyper-sleep nightmare (how can you dream in in that is a mystery), so David's reign of terror never begun.
Anything not so predictable as Covenant's twist ending would be highly appreciated.
'I am ecstatic and we should all be, because this is great news!'
:D :D :D :D :D :D
So it's time to do some fluting! :D

Here is the story they are looking for, it's just about done according to Blackwinter-witch
;-) ;-) #FOX
This is amazing news. Now Fox will have to convince the audience the sequel is a real departure from the disappointing Covenant.
Great news, let Ridley finish the story he started. I love Prometheus, AC was not bad but had its flaws (RIP Shaw x_x), hopefully the next one will be better (in Prometheus style/sense).
That's awesome news! Glad to see some more women get a unique opportunity with such an awesome franchise!
GREAT news!! WOOOOOHHOOOO! This statement definitely SEEMS to hint at Fox allowing Ridley some breathing room.
Excellent news!
Love the Engineers... A breath of fresh air.
Re-reading 'At the Mountains of Madness' Hp Lovecraft, is basically Prometheus/AC...freaky sculptures...passageways...so cool.
Ati they are all so cute, thankx for sharing! :)
It didn't suck. And Ridley really played @Bisshop! You're absolutely supposed to know that it's David hitching a lift to the Covenant. He even put in a little android smirk just to let you know. If you think for one moment it was supposed to be a big reveal, you were well and truly played.
Wonderful post Ingeniero!
Body horror is a big part of what made the Morb and it's lifecycle so shocking and frightening. David's experiments certainly continued that element, but for me it needs to be full on Giger!
Now, if FOX could just approach Giger's estate in a dignified and respectful manner, perhaps we could see that?
His movie had the mashings of Alien v Predator and Requiem with some of the ideas of the solo Alien movies. All ideas may sound great on paper; just like Prometheus and Covenant did but you need a fine tune recipe that brings a great DP, film scorer and production team that can help your vision.
This is the best news I've heard all year! Thank god he gets to finish what he started. He more than deserves it imo
Thanks for posting this Corporal Hicks! :)
I cannot stand the Engineers. They ruined the Alien franchise going that route. Just the way the Fast and Furious (also Stars Wars, Saw and Annabelle series) can spin 8 car action movies but keep the theme similar; Alien could do that same. Engage Blomkamp on his ideas or bring Isolation into the fold as a movie. For the record, I am a true Alien fan that saw the original in the movies when I was a teenager. I bought the novelizations and movie souvenir book, but as a fan, if I am disappointed in someone's work, I will call it out. Fans have different tastes and many fans of the series were very disappointed in this film and the last one. We have high expectations from Ridley Scott and expected better output. In my opinion, he has was sold by awful screenwriters that do not take their due diligence seriously. And the results show.
I made this comment earlier, before this post was made, that the executives at Fox are not going to be quick to finance another Alien movie. What he is saying to Ridley is, "back to the drawing board". And Ridley is no spring chicken.
Hallelujah!!!
...this is the news we've been waiting for!
PROMETHEUS broke new ground and set up so many fresh avenues, please let Sir Rid continue with them...
this is what annoys me about this prequel series so far. we have nothing to go on where the engineers are concerned n they were meant to be the main focus of it all. they really need to give the engineers proper screen time and give the fans what they deserve, an epic movie. after all, we did sit through AVP and AVPR
Oh yeah! Previously there were rumors about Engineers return in AC siquel. Maybe any Engineer will be a new villain who want take David's xenomorphs and finally crash the mankind. But he died on LV-426.
Perfect siquel-priquel.
I also remember that "Blade Runner" had a Deckard's voice over, but, in the end (after the director's cut was released), the studio went: "So wrong, we were sooooo wrong." ;)
I guess they've learned from their usual mistake...
Ingeniero - I agree with you that the LV 223 Engineers may have been developed with the "suit" already part of their skin/body. Now I'm wondering about the similarity between the sacrificial engineer and the LV 223 ones. Perhaps they are both either engineered, or are examples of the perfect specimens of their race. If they are just clones or grown to have certain traits, maybe elders from the Prometheus opening would develop perfect, "clean" individuals to seed worlds, but developed the ones with the biosuit/skin to handle the task of destroying worlds or delivering the payload of goo that would wipe the slate clean.
And leading from that, I started thinking about David's (I think he said it) comments along the lines of saying the Engineers used to have a cruel sacrificial routine, but that they changed their ways or something like that. Maybe the LV 223 Engineer woke up after their race had ceased whatever cruel sacrifice they used to use, but he never got the message being in cryosleep for so long lol.
I just saw "Twin Peaks" (2017), and there David Lynch goes with a masterpice within a very unusual dialogue:
"It's a world of truck drivers..."
I echo what drucea and ScorpioStar said above. No more rehash of 'Aliens'... more Engineers from 'Prometheus' with the intelligent horror and better story-telling/pace/character development from 'Alien'.
