If you've ever seen someone who's been shot in the head, you will see that they drop like a stone, no mucking about. If an alien bursts through your spinal column you will drop flaccidly like a stone because your nerve impulses will be broken immediately. You will also be dead in short shrift due to a massive drop in blood pressure.

Before I saw the movie in theaters,   the backburster scene was somehow online and after watching it, I became worried the movie was going to be full of POS CGI. The manner in which the guy's body flaccidly backwards on the the table... Sheesh, Xbox games make that stuff look more realistic.  I watched the remake of "It" this weekend and the CGI the clown parts for me. When the villain is a cartoon, it's simply not scary....  (BTW, that was a good movie though not a scary one...)

@Starlogger, no matter which way I look at it, David is evil. He may well be dead set on his task at hand, but that does not negate the fact that he is profoundly immoral and wicked. One could also say the same of the genocidal Engineers. Or God, if you believe in such things, whose 'mysterious ways' don't really let him off the hook.

Is the suggestion then that the xenos will turn on david? How? I find it odd, that the artificial persons are somewhat immune to the attack of the xenos. Makes me think they're more perfect life form. Or artificially perfect. :-X

Gediman replies, "Yes. Yes they are."  (Gediman is still on edge.)  I've been monitoring their interaction."  (He points to a screen showing what he has been doing with the hopes that Ripley didn't see his unprofessionalism, or his fear for that matter.)

I Moon GirlAlien: Covenant ForumMichael Bishop

VivisectedEngineer

It's not a theory, it's just a logical conclusion with the information presented in the 4 main Alien movies that are basically as canon as it gets.  The man we know as Michael Bishop in Alien3 was never formally introduced.  Luckily Ingeniero has the facts on who Michael Bishop is; otherwise all we could do is draw logical conclusions.

The clip you mention about Bishop being impaled by the Xeno Queen is a random incident and I don't think is enough evidence to assert that androids can feel pain.  I'm not saying they do or they don't, but if they do feel pain, then they are able to ignore it, unlike humans.  This is factual when you consider Ash being "brought back from the dead" with only his head in Alien.  This is also fact with Bishop being "brought back from the dead" in Alien3.  This is also a fact with David becoming headless in Prometheus.  This is also the case with Call in Alien: Resurrection who was shot.  In all of those situations, neither android expressed pain, or at least much, even though they were in pieces or were shot.  There voices might have been messed up in some of those examples, but I guess that could be expected when all that's left of an android is its' head and I wouldn't be surprised if an android that lost its' head also experienced some messed up interior components which would mess with the androids voice.  There is also fact in Alien: Covenant where Walter gets his hand eaten by acid when he punched the Neomorph.  I don't remember Walter ever experiencing pain.  I just remember him with look of fear or surprise or determination on his face (I can't actual remember that part very well, but I'm pretty sure he didn't show signs of pain.)

For Michael Bishop to have enough adrenaline running through him to ignore a massive gash in the back of his head with his ear falling off wouldn't make sense to me.  I do agree that humans can receive extra adrenaline in moments of life or death or situations similar, but Michael Bishop doesn't seem to fit the bill for that to happen for me.  To me, Michael Bishop is trying to have a conversation that he so desperately wants to go his way.  That blow would have easily knocked out a normal human being and would likely result in a concussion or even cause death.  Plus, I don't think he wants a Xeno Queen more than what his life is worth.  That's the question with all WY employees, "Would they sacrifice themselves for a chance to have a Xeno?"  I think we have our answer, in a way, in Alien: Resurrection, which is, "No."  It's not WY employees in A:R, but they are humans that want something from the Xeno and are willing to steal people to get it.  They even have the technology to remove the Xeno from themselves, but they still choose to steal people to get impregnated with the Xeno.

On your third point, I thought that the Bishop that's trying to get Ripley from killing herself is an android with a human brain in it, which is why he bleeds red, but according to the facts from Ingeniero, it's Michael Bishop with human technological upgrades.  That makes sense to me and is the only example that I know of in the Alien-verse where humans have merged with technology.

Of course, all of my ideas on androids come from me not thinking that they have many, if any, actual human emotions.  Androids could be programmed to act like they are experiencing pain because, as David said in Prometheus to the question, "Why do you wear a space suit?"  David replies, "Because it makes your kind (humans) feel more comfortable if the android blends in with humans." (or something like that).  So, that pain you think Bishop is feeling in the movie Aliens could all be part of his programming, but he may not actually be feeling anything.  That brings the question, "If I think, do I feel?"  This is a very abstract question and I'm sure different people have different beliefs on how this relates to AI androids.  AI stands for Artificial Intelligience.  Here is one definition for it...

ar·ti·fi·cial in·tel·li·gence

the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

It doesn't state feelings in there, but if androids had AI and feelings, I'm sure they could make better and more human decisions.  We discussed emotions with androids early and I really don't feel like continuing that debate.  I feel like we kind of have our own, yet separate beliefs on that.

(Gediman presses his face against the glass with his mind fully captured by the aliens biology in addition to it's capabilities.  The alien than shoots its tongue at Gediman and strikes the glass hard.  Gediman than retaliates by pressing a red button for shooting jets of liquid nitrogen at the alien.  The alien starts thinking about attacking, but Gediman hovers his hand over the red button.  The alien withdraws.)

Gediman than replies with superiority, "Fast learner, huh?"

(Strangely, something is moving behind Gediman that he doesn't notice until its hand is on his shoulder.  Gediman is terrified and a feels a little insecure because of his unprofessional "intimacy" with the alien.  After Gediman's mind quickly flashes with his worries and fears, he quickly turns his head around to see what was out of his field of sight.

Once Gediman sees who it is, he is still remains terrified, but now confused in addition to his insecurities.  It's Ripley.)

"How did you get in here?" Gediman manages to speak.

Good point on tech 'overwhelming' a story. The trick is to also show the Limitations of technology as well as the benefits. ;)

Technology is a tool, a force/effort/ability amplifier. But, while tech offers amazing benefits (Consider a smartphone from the perspective of the 1800's) it still has Limits...like short battery life, reliant on connectivity/network access, etc, etc..

In ALIEN: Manticore, there's a sitution where the crew (even with the wealth of tech at their fingertips) is powerless to do more than fight a slowly-losing battle.

I LOVE sci-fi tech, but in the end, the story is and always should be about the PEOPLE involved, right? Tech is merely there to help the story, allow new avenues of actions, or present interesting complications and devil's-choice options.

Thank-you for noticing that and commenting on it!! :D Populating the technological aspects is something I enjoy, and while it is a challenge, it's also satisfyingly fun, especially when someone Notices. :)

I know exactly what you mean regarding the 'Tech Aesthetic' of things looking too much like modern-day.

As an example, in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, they had NOTHING like flatscreen tech of today, but the way they got around that gave things a crisp, cool Future-Tech aesthetic that's eyecatching and 'hyper-clean'.

For me too, Covenant was just a bit too close to present-day, and a huge step backwards from the tech-aesthetic of Prometheus, where we had at least an interesting articulation assembly for the engines, better-looking corridors and overall things looked more 'Tomorrow-esque'.
The thing I truly dislike the most about the Covenant is the corridors, they're about as interesting as a cold bowl of overcooked oatmeal. The bridge had some elements I liked, like the holotable, but that was about it. I liked the front end, and the engines...I really disliked the entire middle section as it was boring, clunky and seemed 'flimsy'.

They COULD have borrowed some elements from the Prometheus corridors and some from the Nostromo's, just little touches that would show the ship is between the Prometheus and Nostromo eras of starship design.

I think if movies go too high tech a lot of gadgetry would be eliminated and I don't think the audience is ready for that. Probably there would be people saying that a movie like that would have a lot of the same traits as the superhero movies, because technology would be indistinguishable from superpowers.

Yeppers, the 'pups' are definitely a class of Autonomous Drone, where the Dropship could be classed as a Remotely Piloted Vehicle type of Drone.

From an altogether different franchise, yet really links-up to your post, David, and all the 'Playing God' elements.

Adama's Speech, Important relevancies highlighted:

""Thank you very much. The Cylon war is long over. Yet we must not forget the reasons why so many sacrificed so much in the cause of freedom. The cost of wearing the uniform can be high. But...sometimes it's too high. You know when we fought the Cylon’s; we did it to save ourselves from extinction. But we never answered the question of Why? A young Ensign once asks me, “Why are we as a people worth saving?” I could not answer him then and I can’t answer him now. As a people we still commit murder because of greed, spite, jealousy...We still visit all of our sins upon our children...Commander Tolan once told me that you can’t outrun the sins of your family and as a species we refuse to accept responsibility for anything that we've done…like we did with the Cylon's. We decided to play god. Create life...When that life turned against us...we comforted ourselves in the knowledge that it really wasn't our fault, not really. But like Ensign Wallace says, it was our fault…no one else to blame…You cannot play god then wash your hands of the things that you've created. Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide, from the things that you've done, anymore." "

Blackwinter-witch I like the fact that you have your own way to populate the technological aspects of your stories. One of my biggest problems with Alien Covenant is that I did not like the technology. The design of the ship, the bridge etc, it was to me too present looking.

Blackwinter-witch Aren't Feifield's geo-mapping "pups" in Prometheus drones? And also the ship that Bishop operates remotely in Aliens can probably be considered a drone too.

And yes, I have heard of their phallic festivals and they probably look at the Xenomorph as their god lol

The Japanese read boys' love manga on the train going to work in the morning, I'm sure these pieces won't be strange for them. :)

Have you ever heard about the Japanese phallus festivals?

Ingeniero - I didn't focus on the kiss or the sexual factor of the images. I like the different approaches the works reflect:

Some examples:

The cruel killer:

Bishop style (Aliens):

The threesome with the protomorph:

Covered by the pencil/funny:

My favourite one:

The morph like a snake on his body, he is holding the hugger embryo in front of his mouth = apple from paradise, he is bleeding but he is smiling at the same time, his face looks like an anime character - the devil, death, creation, sin, blood, sacrifice, joy, satisfaction, etc. in one picture:

This image below seems reasonable with what we have seen from David 8.

I took that scene as David 8 throwing an emotional storm at Walter while preparing to stab him. I know that I haven't kissed my synthetic twin, so my perspective is limited...but that is how I interpreted the kiss.

Great idea !!

Perhaps the "Protomorphic Wolf" is the 1979 Xeno

I am assuming that you mean the "Protomorph" evolving into Davids Wolf ??

IRaptus - i think that is the reference point ?
