WHY NOT BOTH? People always say "it has to be One Or the other, not both." why? The Eggmorphing theory works Also because if there is a queen alien, then there would be no reason to have an eggmorph; however, if there Was No queen, then how would it reproduce? an Eggmorph, of course (in fantasy logic). Both of these should be canon because if there was no eggmorph they could use their bodies to further the Alien-version of terraforming their environment ("it's a Dry Heat" = moisture absorbed for terraforming), while a queen would create a large number very quickly by utilizing the egg-womb or whatever by laying many eggs very fast. Otherwise, an eggmorph would be a last-resort for a single surviving alien combat form which would use the terraforming of its cells to morph a person into an egg to create a queen, which would logically be the first alien (which would also have a long gestation period to grow larger with more resources like why she didn't die immediately in Alien^3).

Both of these are logical and work seamlessly Together, which is why both being canon are excellent ideas.

I have the Neca Alien 3 Xeno and am happy with it. I really like that coiled buster though. Wish I could buy those seperately.

The Big Chap package looks really good. I didn't see a price point but NECA usually is good for the quality.

At the beginning of "The Crossing", we see the juggernaut which Shaw and David have fetched from one of the facilities on LV-223, slowly gliding through space (suggesting that they have at least managed to get the ship airborne).

Next, we see Shaw examining a star map (in order to find the homeworld of the engineers?). Then, Shaw puts David together, and together they "were able to activate their ship and set course for their homeworld". They seem to be happy together.

David says it's impossible to say how far it is to the engineer homeworld but Shaw is put into hypersleep. David is then "alone again" For how long? During this time, David learns "of their ways". When they arrive at their homeworld, David immediately begins the holocaust.

Was Shaw awake? Did she witness the extermination?

Well, having only knowledge of the movie itself, it was pretty good and the concept of being mostly silent was very engaging. The last 15-20 minutes was a shit show though. It is worth watching until you see the toungueless clan- then shut it off. (One can still make plenty of vocal noise without a tongue)! And why bother mentioning a girl was fertile? So what? That point went nowhere.

The Vasps were pretty much a thing you had to take as a given like you had to accept zombies in the Dawn of the Dead- they were just there. I just took it in- no problem.

The egg laying bit was late in the movie and was very brief and only explained by what what was seen for about 5 seconds. That bit could have been chopped and no one would have noticed. Meh-

The Vasps themselves resembled the creatures from Pitch Black pretty much and behaved the same except they reacted to sound and not light- Fair enough! 

It is worth a watch up until you you see the Tonguless guy sketch "Shhhhh". 

Good concept, good acting, so so CGI, good story, some unexplored plot points, horrible last scene. 

Have some popcorn and a few beers and give it a go one time. One and done!

BigDave You are pretty much on track with concepts explored in the movie. It also looks at the relationship of a Mother and Daughter- as the characters are named. It is written in a way that you can see each character's motivation and also how they conflict- but as the saying goes, Mother knows best.

Well, the engineers decided we weren't fit to exist during the reign of the roman empire and the time of Christ. We were hardly any more civilized before that time . . .

Dr. Shaw interpreted those paintings as an invitation.

Based on comments by Ridley, and what we've seen in the film, Engineers seed planets with life and periodically visit them to check and update their creations. If their creations proved successful as the Engineers hoped, the Engineers would come back again. If their creations proved to be a disappointment, the Engineers would simply eradicate entire species using the pathogen and start all over again.

"If the planet went wrong, they would want to wipe it clean. But that could take 500 years. When they revisit because different visitors would come back and see we're not doing so well they would look at these human beings that are jerks, that are killing the planet, killing themselves, can't settle down, they're like a bunch of children. We should wipe it clean."

So, Engineers most likely hoped humans would join and co-exist with them, but at some point during their visit, humans proved to be a disappointment to them, so they thought "Nope, can't let those hostile bastards ruin this planet."

Even if Engineers checked on humans somewhere in 2000 A.D., they'd be disappointed anyway.

As for the Advent transmission, it seems likely that it was close after leaving Planet 4.

About Shaw's hair length, it looks like they travelled together, helping each other manoeuvring the juggernaut before Shaw was put into hypersleep.

When it comes to "the invitation", the location was probably pointed out before the engineers were disappointed with us and wanted to eradicate us . . .

I think what RS was trying to do is show that there can be more about the ALIEN Franchise than just being about the Pursuit of that Cargo on the Derelict and our Heroine Ripley putting a END to the Companies Plans to obtain the Xenomorph.

We could Ponder/Question what if a AI is actually behind the scenes running the SHOW while Mankind are unaware?

A Plot where AI is running the Weyland-Yutani company or plays a MASSIVE ROLE could certainly explain a keen INTEREST in the Pursuit of the Xenomorph at all Costs... because then Mankind would just be Expendable to them and the AI could be interested in Obtaining the Creation of one of their Forefathers (David).

so you could have Expanded Universe Movies that DONT deal with the Xenomorph.  I think the whole Back Ground of the AUTONS  would be something Interesting to Delved into.

Certainly fits with the Prequel Theme of Creation and the Hubris of Sub-Creating... so you could PONDER in Future if AI Synthetics begin to RULE the World... then the Creation of the Autons could likely prove to be the Synthetics Undoing etc.

You could Picture a WORLD where 3 Races are Fighting for Control of the Earth.... Humans, Synthetics and Auton's and that Certainly would explain this Scene. as a Consequence/Aftermath.

I have NOT seen it yet as i dont have Netflix, but it seems to touch upon some interesting concepts.

I feel the Plot can be somewhat connected to The Covenant as in the posibility in Future to SEND out a Noah's Ark of sorts to Populate other Worlds with Humans, in which case Carrying Embryos would save on Space and having Androids Tasked with Populating those Embryos once they have arrived at their Destination and Set Up Camp.

Within context to I AM MOTHER... its also a possible Plot in the Future of our Species, the potential for mankind to Destroy itself is always there and so a BACK-UP plan would be required, and while SCI-FI you could actually envision something similar happening in the Very Distant Future.

The Advent of AI is Interesting because the Creation of Advanced AI could be our SAVIOR or our DOWNFALL.

Certainly we are all BORN Innocent and we are shaped by our Upbringing and information/knowledge and others who we interact with and situations we are involved with or witness.

Isolate some Children and Raise them with SET Rules and Upbringing and Potentially you could Raise a Civilized Peaceful Colony.  This in PART is the Noah Tale as he was deemed Pure and Loyal and Tasked with Starting Over  and so its interesting to Ponder if a AI would eventually see Mankind as Destroying itself and deem the NEED to Eradicate Us but to keep some Embryo's/Children to START OVER where they can be brought up in a Environment that does not become Corrupted by the Ways of Man.

With I AM MOTHER... it appears some Revelations come about and then MOTHER would surely NOT want to allow any Outside Influences to Corrupt what she is attempting to do.

so i think we could be seeing some of what I AM MOTHER is offering with Ridley Scotts upcoming Raised by Wolves.

While we cant take that bit of work i had done to try and make a Match as being what is intended (the Team Behind the Maps may have done NO Research and so it Actually may NOT match any System)  I think if we looked at Every Part of the SKY we could find other Groups of STARS that Match that are NO-WHERE near LV-223.

I would like to say  that it does seem HIGHLY LIKELY the Star Maps that Dr Shaw and Holloway had Discovered had NOT taken us to LV-223 by Coincidence so we have to ASSUME as far as the Movie goes that the STAR MAPS had to match up with Group of Stars within the Vicinity of the Reticulum Constellation.

We saw that Dr Shaw felt that these were left for Mankind as a Invitation, this was HER assumption... she latter said "we was so WRONG!"  This quote is OPEN to interpretation.

*Wrong because it was NOT a Invitation?

*Wrong because She DID-NOT expect the place to be as Horrific with the Intention they Discovered? (To Destroy us).

Likely is both of the above......

But then you could Argue that you CANT take her Assumptions as anywhere near FACT...  By Virtue of her Keeping her FAITH in Spite of all her Work/Research and what they Discover on LV-223.

She was Naive and as she said "its what i CHOOSE to believe" so that Irrational Response could KNOCK any Credibility to what ever she ASSUMES.

Kind of likewise that people can KNOCK the Credibility of David by Virtue of getting the AUTHOR of the Ozymandias Poem Wrong.

I think we just need to look at WHY the Engineers would INVITE us from their POV.... for this it comes down to WHY we was Created and by WHO?  (Planet 4 Engineers or Prometheus Style Engineers).

The Alien Covenant drafts seem to give some indication, but again its from David.. which is that the Engineers had attempted to BUILD Good Machines with us.

This implies our Creation was to Serve just as David was to Serve, by that for some purpose like Hard Labour and so this Mirrors some of the Sumerian Anunnaki Tales for our Creation.

In this Context then it is LIKELY those Maps where NOT any Invitation.  And merely either.

*This is where you CAME from.

Or Dr Shaw and Holloway had taken the Prometheus to the WRONG place and the Star Maps had intended to point to PLANET 4 and indicate this is WHERE the Engineers came from. 

Again being Unlikely it was a Invitation and we are NEVER intended to go there, only unless the Engineers came and TOOK some of us there, as its likely the Engineers had NEVER intended to Teach us to become so Advanced and they THOUGHT that without their HELP we would never ADVANCE to Reach the STARS.

When doing that IMAGE.. to Pin Point where the ADVENT was sent... i noticed something in the TOP RIGHT Corner.

There are a GROUP of Stars that KIND OF match the Star Map, its NOT 100% but CLOSE.... and Located in the Reticulum Constellation.

 You may have to View Image Separate (Enlarge it), while this does-not mean this is the MATCH, its kind of Close and Certainly within the Vicinity of Zeta 2 Reticuli 

Just assuming this is Correct (which it may very well NOT be), then it could be that Dr Shaw and Holloway went to the WRONG place... maybe because when they arrived close to the Matching System the only Candidate as far as being Likely to Sustain Life near by was LV-223

Maybe the Engineers were pointing to Planet 4, and maybe we assume the MAP i did was Correct, it was indicated that Planet 4 was obscured from Detection somehow...

But it seems likely that the Engineers had NEVER intended us to come and FIND them and so it was NO actual Invitation.

I Overlapped the STAR MAP and while the 3 Stars Close by Match up, the other 3 are Off (Nothing really there) so maybe they are a bit Further away as Indicated in this Next image?

I think its hard to Gauge the Engineers Ships Speeds, i would ASSUME they are Vastly Quicker than Earths, and with Alien Covenant the Zeta 2 System took about a Year to Reach (Under Actually).  The Prometheus took about 2 Years.

I think its likely David was not 100% Honest with Dr Shaw and he had a Agenda to get her into Cryo-sleep so then he is in FULL CONTROL.

The RED X is where the Advent Viral Message was Transmitted from.   I think we have to assume this could have been Transmitted not far away from Planet 4 but we cant be 100% Sure, its a BIG Coincidence though so we are looking at either.

1) David Transmitted it from Planet 4 so it is located near Zeta 2 Reticuli (which some speculated on a Topic) HERE

2) David Transmitted it not to LONG after he had placed the Face Huger Embryos into the Embryo Storage on the Covenant, so the Ship had not traveled far which again indicates that Planet 4 is near Zeta 2 Reticuli

3) David travels near to Zeta 2 Reticuli before he sends the ADVENT which could indicate that he had left Planet 4 and is going to LV-223/426

When i say NEAR the Zeta 2 Reticuli System i am talking about as far as Location in the SKY, this does not mean its Distance is within a FEW Light Years of LV-223

We know that David had been stranded on Planet 4 for about 10 Years, from the Date of Departure of the Juggernaught from LV-223 to the Arrival of the Covenant to Planet 4 is about 10 Years 11 Months you could ASSUME thus thats how long David had been on Planet 4.

However.....Dr Shaw's Hair Growth shows that before she Entered the Engineer Cryo-Pod that 4-8 Months would have passed as far as Hair Growth.  So she had spent some TIME floating in Space before She agreed to put David back together.

Also the Novel (which we cant take everything as Gospel) indicated that David had marked out the days he was stranded and there was 3800 Marks/Days. Which taking into account LEAP Years means that from when David started to MARK those Dates to when the Covenant Ship arrived he had been STRANDED on Planet 4 for about 10 Years and 5 Months.

If we ACCEPT those 3800 days and take into account Dr Shaw's Hair Growth then its likely the Juggernaught took DAYS to get to Planet 4, certainly Few Weeks Maximum.

But we have NOTHING Concrete....  as far as 100% How Long it took or 100% were Planet 4 is located.

It seems Indicated as being near Zeta 2 Reticuli and taking a SHORT TIME (Days or Weeks) but there is nothing CONCRETE so its open for debate i guess.

Well, the engineers have travelled through vast expanses of space, Planet 4, LV-223 and LV-426 and Earth being some of them. Planet 4 was sufficiently far away from LV-223 for Shaw to get into hypersleep (it took almost a year with a juggernaut).

Somewhere in the direction of the Reticulum constellation, there might be a portal to another part of space, a wormhole . . .

I think a thing to remember with Constellations they are just a way to Separate up areas of Space as viewed from Earth, and so you could have TWO Stars that appear side by side in a Constellation that could be Vastly Seperated by Distance were as other Stars that are not located close to them as viewed from Earth could be much closer to them.

Regarding Galaxies we have to remember they are located in the Further Reaches of Space.. Millions of Light Years away but if we get one we could make out with the Naked Eye or with a Telescope then the Area of the Sky that we would see them from Earth would be located in a Area of the SKY that belongs to a Constellation.

Meaning the Galaxy is viewed through/pass that Constellation but NOT that the Galaxy is actually located within that Constellation

Well its likely the Map shows Stars and it depends at what position are these viewed... from Earth?

With ALIEN it was indicated that LV-426 was in the Zeta Reticuli Binary Star System and Ridley Scott has on a number of times mentioned this, and Prometheus we are in the same Star System.

Here i have TWO Maps of the Zeta Reticuli System the System is the TWO Brightest Objects its a case of which of the STARS in the Prometheus Map would match up with those Stars and then what are the other Stars in the Prometheus Map.

So that collection of 6 STARS could be quite FAR apart we can maybe ASSUME that Zeta 1 and Zeta 2 have to be on that Prometheus Star Map.  So its a Question of WHICH of those 6 STARS had the Engineers been pointing out?

The Isle of Skye Cave Map seems to show the Tall Being pointing to a Specific Point.  But then it could be that when the Prometheus arrived at the System Area they Targeted the System that had the Most Suitable Candidate for the Potential to have Life or had Life... hence LV-223

But it could have been Planet 4 that was being pointed out but this place remained Hidden (as indicated).

sometimes you just have to Accept what the Production, Drafts and Director had indicated, which was that these MAPS pointed out the Zeta 2 Reticuli System.

I have taken the Concept work for Fire and Stone of the Deacon's we NEVER got to see and Scaled in a Xenomorph.

The Fire and Stone Concept Team seemed to be going for about a 10-11Ft Fully Grown Engineer Deacon.

Bare in Mind this is Comic Format... i think we can assume IF we saw a Real Action Adult Deacon in a Future Movie it would look more Fearsome than the Concepts show.

We know NOTHING really about the Deacon, it surely would share some Traits of the Neomorph and Xenomorph.

While we can ASSUME a Xenomorph would beat a Neomorph (which is the case in a Earlier Draft)  I would Speculate that the Engineer Deacon would be more of a Match for a Human Xenomorph.

I think the AI aspect is something interesting to look at, and i feel Ridley Scott felt the same, and it could appear that we could explore AI beyond the Limits of Synthetic Technology.   As Ridley Scott sees the Replicants as AI and i think he intends to show us the Prometheus Engineers are AI.

Something  i find VERY interesting is the History after ALIENS....  by that i mean the AUTONS  a AI that are Created by Synthetics.. this could be something to Explore as far as the REASON, HISTORY and Downfall of this Action.

"I feel sorry that Walter could not ultimately deal with David; Walter deserved to live"

I Speculate that we would see Walter again, i base this on the Comments by Ridley Scott regarding the Sequel, as he claimed there would be 3-4 Incoming Parties that would be arriving (to where David will be heading Next).   And he said that ONE of those Parties will be the Engineers who will return to Planet 4 and Discover the DESTRUCTION left behind and would be AFTER the Culprit.

Now we have to Consider a Few Things..

*The Engineers Ships must be Vastly Quicker than the Covenant and so they would Intercept the Ship quick, but it seems David will arrive at his Destination First.  So its HIGHLY likely the Engineers arrive at Planet a LONG time after David has left.

*How would they Track David? Do they have some Technology that Can Trace the Ship leaving Planet 4?  I Doubt it.

*They would discover the Crashed Juggernaught and even if they Activate the Hologram Recordings all the SHIP can reveal is that the Ship came from LV-223 and that a Human was on board.

*What could they make out from the Wreckage of the Lander? i doubt anything, or Equipment, would the Remains of the Humans who Died on Planet 4 still be in any condition to allow the Engineers to identify the Species and where they are from?

They could also come across WALTER... if he is just a Corpse they would still make out his likeness to Humans.

But all of these would only DRAW the Engineers to LV-223 or Earth.

It is HIGHLY LIKELY that David would go to Origae-6 and its UNLIKELY the Engineers would know about this... UNLESS!!!!!

They discover a Walter who can Inform them or Point them in the Right Direction.

The only way this COULD-NOT happen would be if David had Uploaded himself to the Walter Model, and all that remains is ONLY the Empty Shell of David.

Also it is likely that TWO of the other Parties will be Human Ships and so maybe ONE of those can have a WALTER.

So our Walter is NOT gone... well NOT if we got a Sequel to Alien Covenant that is like what Ridley Scott had intended.

I like all the androids. They each have their own personalities and the coolest thing is how the synthetic technology progress in the Alienverse.  We have the Early synthetics represented by David, how he was unstable and more human than the other synthetics. Walter was a more "improved" version of David with his "humanity" removed from him. Ash was kind of like david just lacking the humanity part, so they again "improved" them with the more human loyal Bishop. Call has perfectly passed for human.

I love the good androids, Bishop and Walter, the best, but I will give David an honorable mention as he is incredibly interesting. 

Bishop I've loved ever since I was kid. He was so kind, patient, gentle, brilliant, and dutiful. Like Ripley, he was afraid, but he got the job done. He's proof that an individual can be quiet and kind and still an absolute badass force to be reckoned with. Literally half of him was more helpful to Ripley and Newt than pretty much the entire human crew. Much love to my man - uh, android - Bishop. 

I also love Walter. He had a straightforward innocence and the Bishop-like quiet, intelligent kindness. I loved how he protected Daniels without question, so many times, losing his hand and throwing David away from her and yelling at her to run. I loved how he offered to help her with her ship duties right after her husband died and told her from the beginning that he would never let her down. He was kinder than the humans. You could argue it was his programming, but he was GOOD.

I enjoyed the contrast between David and Walter when David insisted that Walter loved Daniels, but Walter replied, "It is my duty." Love and duty often occur concurrently. Soldiers can demonstrate the coexistence of love and duty, showing their love for their country through their dutiful actions and commitment to service. So perhaps both David and Walter were right. Walter was made to be like the Terminator in Judgment Day; someone who would know why you cried, but would never be capable of doing so himself. (But then again, Aliens androids are delightfully more gray area at times, so you never know...)

Daniels was not wrong to ask Walter to help her build the cabin by the lake. He was smarter and kinder than all those people put together and I would've done the same thing.

I feel sorry that Walter could not ultimately deal with David; Walter deserved to live. It was perhaps his programming making him more obedient that was part of his downfall and he had less experience dealing with situations creatively as David had. David showed him he could compose a tune with the flute, but Walter was not sneaky enough to keep ahead of David. Although it made him imperfect, David was saved by his baser human instincts. 

Finally, David is terribly interesting to follow, especially in Prometheus because you weren't quite sure of his autonomy/programming/free will until later on and then, oh man! David experimented on the humans and conceivably got consent, although it was not informed. He surely would have known from a procedural standpoint that it wasn't ethical, but he has his own agenda. He did many things that were arguably more human than android which gave you a hint as to what was behind that robotic facade. I enjoyed seeing his character growth even though he was ultimately evil. Awesome villain!

The androids are my favorite characters in Aliens. Observing the interplay between their robot and human characteristics and the good and evil they express through some combination of personality and programming is utterly fascinating! 

Abe is a real downer with that saw.

She did seem to be an effective scalpel in carving out obstacles in front of business interests.  Nice pants too.  I even liked her bangs.

When he says to Daniels "if we are kind" then indeed he could be lying to HER.  Whatever plans he may have had are kind of in Trouble by Virtue that Daniels managed t Figure out it was NOT  her Walter by the time she was in Cryo-Sleep.

The indication from Prometheus was that indeed maybe David would NOT be so much a Problem if he in General Felt he was Treated better... but overtime he would see that he was Superior and Certainly would NOT want to Serve or be placed below Mankind on the Hierarchy Ladder.

The Main Thing that Ridley Scott seemed to be basing the Sequel on was "What Kind" of a World that David would Create/Build.   That would be about AI and NOT about the Xenomorph.

Could David be a KIND Father/God?

But in many Mythos and Religion we see that GOD may come across as KIND and Loving as long as they are Worshiped, Pleased....   Disobey the GODS and well they Certainly don't stay Benevolent to their Creations.

For sure the Nativity Painting is a Good Example of how something can be made Many Years after a Event.

A thing to Consider However is the MAPS that are dated after 0AD are the Mayan 620 AD and Hawaiian 680 AD

These Civilizations had NO-CONTACT with others at this Time-Period (the Plot was neither did the others but indicated the Engineers just visited each).  So that means we could wonder did Engineers still come back at around the Time of 600-700 AD?

If so then surely these beings would be aware of LV-223 and the Outbreak?  So maybe those Last TWO Maps are a Warning?  But some could also say they could be a SET-Trap knowing the Place had a Outbreak!

If it is like the Nativity work by Piero della Francesca then the Information may have been passed on in some kind of Visual Form (Paper or Tablet) that someone latter discovered and worked from to make those Maps in 620AD and 680AD but i think we need to assume that people from Maya Area of Mexico and Hawaii had NO Contact with each other at those Times.

The other Maps dated prior to 2000 years ago all show Beings pointing to the Stars from Visitations on Foot.

The Mayan 620CE and Hawaiian 680CE ones are different in that depict a SHIP!

The Hawaiian one seems to show a Disc Like Ship (but this could be the SUN)

And so maybe we cant Rule-Out more Visits or that the Engineers had taken some Humans from Earth earlier and then taken them Back after the Outbreak to maybe try and Pass on their Ways or Warnings?

Regarding the MAP it appears its a collection of STARS and the positions of Stars can change over Thousands of Years and so these may NOT be accurate.

It seems (as discussed on here quite a lot in the past) the Maps could be based off the Betty Hill Abduction Map
