personally, I still cant watch alien without a light on n im in my 30s. I know whats coming and yet I still jump when Dallas turns round. not 1 of the films after it have that same effect. I think once we stared to see more of the creature and more of them, then it lost something. yet I firmly believe if Ridley made a movie in the same form as the original, as in we don't see but our imagination scares us, then we could get another epic alien movie but add the expanded universe aswell.
shaw by a country mile. an original charater with different motives to anyone else wev seen in the franchise. shaw wanted to meet the engineers which would have continued in a better direction imo than what we got.
he can keep the xeno in the movies but not be the centre piece as I do think its time to see more of the universe connected to the xeno. fans r being stubborn aswell here. a large portion just want a film as scary as the original about a monster hunting people but look at the world Prometheus opened up within the alien universe. he gave us these mighty looking engineers who r so far ahead of us that not only does the xeno knock us down the natural ladder in terms of top species but the engineers do aswell. some r wanting something fresh and yet they slammed Prometheus. seriously?? it was the most original film in the franchise since alien. RS could find a medium somewhere but It seems to me theres no deliberate path now after Prometheus got slammed. as he said himself 'they want aliens ill give them fkn aliens' yet when he does hes still getting slammed. I wouldn't be surprised if he does one more then washed his hands of the franchise, I would. Prometheus had issues but I take that film for what it is. a jump off, first in a trilogy movie to raise the questions for future instalments to answer yet hes turned away from what he wanted and AC doesn't seem like an alien movie or a Prometheus sequel to me.AC, imo, was just awful and I believe its because RS isn't sure where to go now. he had a path and ditched it to please the masses.
@ Yog Sothoth,
Personal insults, really? Not knowing were the creators of the Juggernauts came from I couldn't well replace the word Terra, could I? I could have used the term 'Xenoforming', but then many wouldn't have understood what I meant now would they?
There is plenty of evidence, of which I stated in the OP, that the Engineers are most likely primitive humans. But I am glad that you bring up the Sacrificial Engineer. That was not Earth in Prometheus' opening scene, and the life that the Engineer was seeding was not the beginnings of life on Earth, but that of Xenomorph Prime...
As Leto mentioned the crystal seen in the ampule room was originally a cup, the same cup used by the Sacrificial Engineer, inferring that both the contents of that cup and the contents of the ampules were the same; the Black Pathogen, and as the relief on the wall of the ampule room instructs that the Black Pathogen makes whatever it contaminates to become Xenomorph in nature, thus the life that was born from the scattered remains of the Sacrificial Engineer can only be Xenomorph in nature, else the Black Pathogen makes no logical sense.
Of course, you're free to believe Shaw and Weyland's supposition over the evidence seen in the movies, and yes there is a chance I too have misinterpreted everything. But taking into account I formed this theory before the release of AC, which only added evidence to support my theory, my money is that this theory is probably close to whatever Ridley and co. have imagined for the prequel series.
I don't think this fan theory passes the "Authorial intent" test. I see no evidence of the Engineers being humans in any of the scripts, or any pre or post production material for Prometheus or Covenant.
"The Engineers did not create humankind" <-- Of course they didn't. Humans are the product of billions of years of evolution, starting with microorganisms. If anything, all the Engineers did was seed Earth with bacteria and waited a long, long time for things to happen. Let's not forget the dinosaurs who were only wiped out by a meteor 65 million years ago. Humans evolved only after that accidental disaster wiped out the big predatory dinosaurs, which were keeping the mammals down. If humans ended up looking a bit like the Engineers it would be an accident of evolution, or convergent evolution.
Also, what the heck do you mean "terraformation of Earth"? Earth is already terraformed, you idiot. That's what the word "Terra" means in Latin, planet Earth. The idea about terraforming other planets is to make them like Earth, so humans can live there. You can no more terraform Earth than you can make the sea wetter. Jeez some people are uneducated.
As a kid I could not sleep when I saw any Alien movie. I would imagine a child now seeing these would still be scared of the monster. However for older fans I think the series just needs to be like Covenant. That had immense dread and tension making it hard to even breath through many of the scenes. This is the adult horror to replace the childhood crippling fear that has gone to the way side (unless it's nuclear winter/real end of the world kinds of subjects), at least for me and my movie going experience. I like to be moved by movies, pushed into new emotions and have a physical and psychological reaction to the events. This dread and horror is where the series should go if you ask me.
The Mural was very interesting.. i have covered this a number of times, and yes its interesting that it does look like the Egyptian Goddess Nut, quite how much Actual Egyptian Mythos played into Gigers ideas is unknown, but its interesting to speculate.
I will for now however just cover the Mural....
Indeed we see these Space Suits and while the Helmets look Humanoid Space Fair... the suits do-not... the Suits are the same as those worn by the Bald Humanoids being Face-Hugged in HR Gigers Face Hugger Concepts.
Latter Giger edited the Mural, to give us a more Space Jockey ish look, but we can see from these suits they are very similar to the LV-223 Engineers.
The Mural seems to show us that the Derelict and Xenomorph are Genetically/Aesthetically connected.
The Mural shows us these Space Suited beings are Sacrificing themselves (another member of their Race) to the Xenomorph.
The Mural seems to show Worm-like things come from the center of the Derelict shaped Mural, and these become the Eggs, this Central Point when we look at the Xenomorph/Female Figure would indicate the Womb.
This Mural was to be placed in the Egg Silo Room, above what HR Giger called Bio-Mechanical Pregnant like Bellies that Produced the Eggs.
so HR Gigers Mural to me shows, that the Ships are Connected to the Xenomorph DNA, and that Worm-like Parasites evolve inside the ships Cargo Hold into Eggs. And for some reason a Humanoid Alien Race then Participate into a Ritual Self Sacrifice to allow the Xenomorph to Procreate.
THIS MURAL and HR Gigers ideas that should have been followed, and they still can be... And these was the Basis for my way to explore the Xeno-Engineer connection in my abandoned Prometheus sequel.
The Questions with this Mural would be...
*What are the Worms, where do they come from and what process is needed for them to evolve into Eggs inside this Bio-Mechanical Egg Making Factory?
*Where did the Bio-Mechanical Machine/Ships come from, how was they Made... or GROWN as Giger put it?
*What connection does the Humanoids Have? Are they Slaves to this kind of Sacrifice, what Benefit does it have for them? Or are they actually the ones behind all this Bio-Mechanical Technology/Xeno Biology?
Answering these in context to ALIEN and then trying to tie this with what Prometheus and Alien Covenant laid out, is what i feel FOX/RS should now be doing.
PS Regarding the Chest Buster... indeed this was Gigers first idea, the so called Chicken Burster, which Alien Covenant has a Easter Egg to, in Davids Workshop.
But indeed...
If they explore the Xeno too much in 2-3 movies and then do some Alien/Aliens Sequels about the Xenomorphs... then Sadly they will become COOKED and a Joke like the Jason Movies had been and Freddy.
They tried to Reboot those... take a more serious take.. but that never worked..
And think therefore even RE-BOOTING the Alien Franchise will not work.
They need to be careful over next 1-2 movies with handling the Xenomorph...
They then need to bridge out and explore alternatives to the Xenomorph in other Prequels... such as the Deacon or Fresco or other similar Neomorph like ideas..
i also think if they make a ALIEN 5 they would be better off as above giving us something Fresh.
Bit busy now.... so this reply from other thread, will fit well with these other threads..
I think RS had a Original Vision, that would have covered the Xenomorph and then allowed us to move on past this and explore the Engineers, but FOX felt the Engineers was more interesting and the Xeno had been done to death and something New was needed.
Prometheus appeared to be setting us up to move away from the Xenomorph and Alien... but again it appeared once again FOX Panicked and Felt in Hindsight they should have covered the Xenomorph and so they changed the plans again.
Now that this never went down well....( Alien Covenant)
It appears RS seems to be suggesting in Hindsight indeed the Xenomorph is cooked, and something Fresh Needs doing, yet the Fans expected these NEW Alien Prequels to Lead to ALIEN.
They have Written themselves into another more Tighter Corner now..
The Problem was not the Xenomorph, it was how it was handled, the movie sadly tried to cover a lot of bases, tried to please Prometheus fans, but had desecrated a lot of it... it tried to please Alien Fans but some parts desecrated that... and it simply never had the Action or Queens and Ripleys to please the Fanboys.
I would think the sticking Problems for AC are..
*for some section of Fans, it did not cover the Engineers enough, and the Engineers shown failed to live up to the expectations of those beings we saw in Prometheus.
*some fans hoped for some of Shaws Questions to be Answered.
*Alien Fans, the New Design (Chest Burster) and Gestation/Growth Rate are a conflict to the Alien Lore...
*The Basis now that David Created the Xenomorph and the story is about him, is something that has split fans more so than the Space Jockey being Giant Humanoids (not so Giant)
*The movie Bigged it up to be a Horror and many fans expected a Alien like Vibe to it, but got rushed ALIEN like Scene near the end, and disappointing changes to Lore.
*The ALIENS Fans was expecting a more Ripley Character and Action, and Sadly the Neomorph attack Scenes and Daniels Shooting the Xenomorph failed to give anything near Aliens Action.
I dont think they can now just Drop the Xenomorph, and concentrate on David... i think this is not the case at all, they wont give us a ALIEN AWAKENING and not have any Xenomorph connections.. they cant have the ALIEN Prefix without it as Fans associate the Name with the Xenomorph and Ripley and not Engineers and David
But i dont think it does not have to be all about the Xenomorph.
STAR WARS: The Force Awakens was about the Force, and leading to a Awakening in the Force and so a Set up for a Sequel (The Last Jedi) that would cover the Jedi and Force more.
The Force Awakens, thus did not have as much about the Force or Jedis as the Phantom Menace... And i think ALIEN AWAKENING will deal with the Xenomorph like SW: Force Awakens did with the Jedi/Force.
Leading up to another movie that will show us the Classic Xenomorph Eggs and Derelict Event...
Alien Awakening as far as AI/David and the Company Agenda will be more like the Rebuilding of the EMPIRE (Weyland) into the NEW ORDER (Weyland-Yutani) and reveal AI is running the Show, much like SNOKE is in the Star Wards new sequels.
The FORCE could be our Xenomorph Weapon and the Last Jedi could well be the Hiearchy of those Engineers, who will be out to stop who ever destroyed Paradise/Planet 4

When looking at Daniels, they seemed to be pushing the Progress of a kind of Ripley Character, a Evolution of Ripley from Alien to Alien 3 all within the frame on ONE movie... while some parts of her Character was written well, i am not sure what makes her a Stand Out Lead.
And Sadly the Ending for Alien Covenant does not bold well for her, how can David continue his plans with Daniels knowing who he is?
i doubt we will be shown a flick of David and Daniels Interaction and Cat and Mouse on the Covenant, just for the same reasons FOX/RS did not give us a David and Shaw Cat and Mouse....
I feel Daniels will only appear in a few Flash Backs, just as the Flash Backs of the Engineer Bombardment when David was talking to Walter about Dr Shaw..
We need to Logically look at the path from AC to Alien, and i feel they will have to bypass a lot of events... much like the time the Juggernaught left LV-223 with Dr Shaw and David, to what ever events happened on the journey, and the arrival... right until the Covenant Ship arriving 10 years latter.
We never saw what happened literally and chronologically in those 10 years, Alien Covenant was a 10 years later After Math movie, with clues and Flash Backs to some of the events that transpired during those 10 years
I FEEL... the Sequel will be the same... we will mainly be looking at another 10 years or maybe bit less After-Math of David arriving on Origae-6. The Events of David leaving Planet 4 off to Origae-6, to when a incoming Human ship arrives at Origae-6... will pretty much be similar to when Dr Shaw and David left LV-223 to when the Covenant arrived at Planet 4.
I think we will get some flash backs for sure... but i dont think it spells to well for Daniels...
My only FEAR is they will use the Next Movie to introduce a RIPLEY connection...
I think it would be interesting to seen Dr Shaw, as in a Prequel to Alien Covenant, but this wont happen... maybe we could get a Book? who knows.
A lot of fans was not pleased with Prometheus, its direction, its set up to maybe distance itself from Alien, and Dr Shaw was a Character that many just did not like, she was NO Ripley, and the Naive Believer in God was just not everyone's cup of tea.
This however was MISSED opportunity, one that Rappace seemed disappointed with because she saw potential in her Character.. Dr Shaw has NOTHING left.. No Parents, Cant have Children and her Partner is Gone... the only thing she has left is HER FAITH she refuses to believe the Engineers are the True Gods, and asked who Made them... she still hopes and hangs by her FAITH that all she was brought up on, was that GOD would not be so Wicked as those beings on LV-223
IF she FOUND those Gods or beings above the Engineers or even if the Engineers are actually the Gods, but they have Leaders and which ever way she finds how the Engineers Hierarchy works. IF she THEN finds out their is NO GOD as per her Faith, and instead their are just Sinister beings with Wicked Agendas...
This could BREAK Dr Shaw more than we saw how Broken David was.. and THIS could have been interesting and given Dr Shaw a much needed Character Arc... as her Character for Prometheus was not very well Written
And NOOMI RAPPACE can Act and Handle a Very Good Character if one was written for her.
so indeed as of now... the OT is very Valid.
The Engineers could have came from Earth, they could be Earlier Humans, or maybe they could be latter Humans and we have a Ancestor we share?
The source did hint that Earth Mankind are 4th/5th Generation of our Kind and Engineers do Genetically fit within the Evolutionary Process of Humanoid Races, which Earth is not the only one in the Galaxy.
They also claim that the Engineers and David are actually pretty much more in common than Humans and Engineers, and claim that Humans play the Bigger Role in the Xenomorph and not Engineers. A lot of Emphasis was on earlier Stages of Mankind/Humans and that Biblical Events happened but not to the Generations of Man on Earth.
All sounded a bit puzzling when told in early 2015, based of the October 2014 Final Draft. (Paglen/Green)
But after AC was released i find these Concepts Fascinating.

Wayne Haagg and Steve Messing Concepts, so concepts of the Cathedral Doors by TWO separate Artist, both showing Human Females on the Doors and on the walls leading to those Doors, what look like very Biblical Humans on the one concept and very Sumerian Humanoids on the other.
NOT ENGINEERS..
I would love to ask them what was the process when designing these as clearly a Emphasis is on the Females, and why dont we see Bald Engineer looking Paintings on the Entrance?
Did these early concepts, showcase more Human Race, if not Humans and what then is the relationship between these and the Bald Engineers on Planet 4?
Interesting theory and who knows whats the deal they have decided on, from its inception the concept when working on a Prequel to Alien was to explore the Space Jockey Race, and showcase what connection they had with the Xenomorph.
Spaights worked on a number of drafts and his Alien Engineers introduced us to the Engineers as being the Space Jockey Race, a Race of Ancient Advanced and Powerful Humanoids, who stood 15ft tall.
some of the earlier concepts these beings looked different to what we ended up with. The idea however still being that this Ancient Race had for some reason Created the Human Race, by using their own DNA.
This links to a number of Creation Mythos. This was the idea, that the Space Jockey Race are a Ancient Alien 15ft Humanoids who are ancient cultures had interpreted and worshiped as GOD's and the basis for our many God Religions and Mythos.
FOX felt this Curve-ball was very interesting and decided to tone down the Xenomorph connections and concentrate on the Engineers and Human connections, our Engineers evolved to being more Human Looking and smaller now 12ft tall, that was revised again to 10ft tall as of Lindeloffs Final Paradise Drafts.
Sadly Prometheus Ridley Scott decided against Visual Trickery and Technology as used in LOTR and Hobbit and alas our Space Jockey/Engineers were no more than 7.5ft tall.
It appeared a lot of ideas was in place regarding the Engineers, RS even suggesting they are not GOD's and that RS would not be meeting the GOD in the first movie.. So those Engineers belong to a Hierarchy of Creation and this is why the Elder Scene was cut... the Elders could have been the GOD's or maybe RS had plans to re-design them.
It appears Originally we was to delve more into this Hierarchy in a Prometheus Sequel penned by Paglen/Green, of which a Source past on information to me in Late Feb 2015, based off the October 2014 Prometheus Sequel Draft... and some interesting things was mentioned, which seemed to match comments RS latter made in late 2015 regarding the potential for a sequel.
But it all went a bit quiet.... then the announcement of Alien Covenant which was a re-write and to a degree a near complete new draft for a Prometheus Sequel was penned in the Summer of 2015
Alien Covenant brought some interesting changes to the Engineers, it appeared the World David and Shaw traveled to inhabited by these beings was fundamentally very Ancient Looking almost like Mankind on Earth was some 2000-4000 years ago.... Yet they did have some Technology but this was mostly used for limited resources.
It appears these beings had chosen to instead live more primitive lives, despite being able to have technology and so they indeed are a culture much like the Buddhist Monks, who Shun most of the 20th century Technological Advances.
Yet these Engineers did seem to have a Hanger, that was meant to accept Juggernauts, they also had similar larger docking ships.
So this raised Questions to why this place had these, yet most of them shunned the Technology that the LV-223 Engineers had.
The Planet 4 Engineers also looked different, their skin for the most of them was not as Pale and Marble like the LV-223 and Sacrificial Engineers, the Planet 4 Engineers also had White Sclera also many of them their features seemed less Engineer than we saw in Prometheus.
Was this just a lazy/budget restraint error? or are these beings a Hybrid or a missing link between the Engineers and Mankind? The Planet 4 Engineers, had Females, they also varied in height from about 6ft-7.5ft
But RS had proposed that just as Mankind has various forms and heights why cant the Engineers...
The Females are a interesting addition, because the Background for these beings in Spaights ideas was that they had LONG LOST the ability to Procreate, and had to come up with other means to Procreate their Species.
RS had expanded on this, at the time after Prometheus by saying that the Engineers could Procreate other ways, but the Sacrificial Ritual was just the way they CHOSE to do so.
RS had laid some good comments on the Engineers, after Prometheus he referred to them as Fallen Angels, even proposing that if the Engineers are the Forerunners of Mankind, then where is the Big Guy.
Proposing the Sacrificial Engineer was a Acolyte
After Alien Covenant had finished production, RS had mentioned in interviews that the Hall of Heads inside the Cathedral Dome, was the Wise Men among the Engineers, the Apostles and Superior Beings.. But Superior to who? Mankind? or those beings on Planet 4
Other members of Production referred to the Hall of Heads as the Hierarchy, and Ridley Scott had even called the Engineers in Alien Covenant the ORIGINAL Engineers, so could this mean there are differences to those on LV-223 and the Sacrificial Scene.
another Bombshell after the release on DVD of Alien Covenant is that the Engineers live for 150 years, this is in great contrast to the Original Ideas at the time of Spaights work where our Engineers lived for thousands of years.
So indeed it appears things may change as they go along, and it will be interesting to see WHO these Engineers Truly are, what is the Real Connection to Mankind and what role did/does the LV-223 and Sacrificial Engineers play?
The comments regarding the Engineers given to me late February/Early March 2015 could give some clues however..
Well, the xenomorph is cooked if one keep coming to the cycle egg/facehugger/chestbuster/basic xenomorph. This has been done to death and is boring. I would be more interested in seing how Xenomorph evolve after a very long time. Do they become sentient ? Do they evolve in something much more powerful and dangerous ? Can a hive wipe out all life on a world ?
Also,I would have prefered that Alien Covenant focused on the study of Engineer culture and technology by David ,or another party, and the exploration of the relation between Engineers and Xenomorph or morph like creatures.
Moreover Ridley could have developped some aspects of the Xenomorph removed from ALIEN such as eggmorphing or the ALIEN become sentient.
Imagine an ancient Xenomorph, thousands of years old, which is a god like figure for the humanoids of the planet 4 and awakened by David attack. How smart would such a being be ? How powerful ?
Good theory. It works for me!
What I like about David/AI: They are immortal...no need for sleep chambers (like the Engineers seem to need).
Having a Biomechanical race makes sense. No need to sleep...Like David/Walter/AI they stay awake for every event. Maybe a recharge...but nothing like sleeping for centuries!
For humans to compete with synths(very tough task)they would have to somehow overcome the need for extended sleep OR they get good at cloning and passing on their traits to themselves.....and having to start life as a baby, is a problem.... Very vulnerable.
Immortality versus passing on your genes.
It's pretty close, but I prefer Shaw. Not the most well done character, but I was more interested in what she was doing, actually.
I start Alien:Awakening like this:
Scene 1
Exterior shot: Long shot of a cabin in the woods..(a bit foggy...spooky...standard trope)
slow zoom on the cabin....
Interior shot:
Inside the small log cabin, Daniels is sleeping in a nice comfy bed...you get the sense this is routine and that this has been home for many years...she awakes calmly....Notices Branson isn't there...she gets up and looks out the cabin window...she sees him collecting wood...he stumbles with a arm full of wood and gives a goofy grin(typical Branson!)....he makes his way toward the door.....She opens it only to be greeted by David....David is holding a scalpel.
It's a cliche' scene, but I think it could establish Daniels importance.
That's a good theory. I myself thought about it. Unknown "alpha-race" abducted the primal humans (maybe even Neanderthals) and modernized they with black goo in Engineers. And black goo is patogen - yes, but more - it is the blood (or sub-product) of "alpha race". And alpha-race looks like as alien (on mural)... And they use the proto-facehuggers (on same mural) with humans for reproductive system. And Charley say: "it's just a grave". Grave - tomb for alpha-race who gave power to Engineers. In earlier trailers (and WY report) we can see not a strange green crystal, but a cup for black goo for sacriface (?), which was used an Engineer in Prometheus for create of life (mb planet 4).
I think, Engineers trying to ressurection of Alpha-race, but they failed and was be destroyed the madness monster. And David's xeno (and neo, and deacon, and other things) is just a monsters - pathetic copy of great alpha-race.
We will see living alpha-race? I hope for this.
I prefer Shaw.
Daniels is a strong character, but it reminds me of Ripley too much. Shaw is like a breath of fresh air.
I think the "action" aspect of Alien is cooked, but its legacy won't die. Alien Isolation is a great example.
Well, I love Ridley's movies and I protect P&AC&RS from silly haters, but - I despise to Scott for this "cooked" verbiage. He destroyed himself.
I would take Daniels. She was just a regular person, confident but not cocky. Shaw was just a wishy washy almost god botherer.
I'd go with Daniels....just barely!
Though......I have little sense that Daniels wants to protect, or even cares about the 2000 colonists. Seems she was all about Branson and her cabin. Daniels story would seem to be at a end?
IF they had shown Daniels had a family and they were some of the sleeping colonists....... then I think she would have had a future.
"I've got to get out of this hyper sleep chamber and save my family!!"
BUT....I sure she would now happily live out the rest of her life in the sleep chamber(I know I would!)never to be awakened.
if Shaw is dead how can move the story forward? I certainly don't care about Daniels, too Ripley for my taste. If you want to go forward with a David guess which one would make sense from a drama point of view?
AC is the first one of course. I usually do not go to movie theaters to watch the movies as I have TeaTv on Android. After AC, Despicable Me is my choice.
you disappoint me Mr Scott :(
Alien was never that scary to me personally, but i did watch a lot of the older slashers before seeing it so i was pretty used to that genre.
We will reveal nothing because he makes it up as he goes, so the reveal will must probably be weak. And if you mention the Usual Suspects, why do you people even consider the Souze is just some urban legend?
And for the diminishing returns, is he really that disconnected? You make one of the most gory and mean spirited film and you expect do have a big success at your hands? You don't care about human characters at all? You make the same choices as 3? Have a pretty idiotic script which at please seems like an Alien spoof? I for one don't give 2 cents about the Xenomorph, if it was not for Prometheus I would have not even bother to watch it. So maybe Sir Scott have guts and do a movie you would like to make. Why do you think a "movie" like The Room has fans?
I'm sick of the shoot 'em up, shoot 'em out Alien films. I love where Ridley is going with this..
dk that is a cool idea. Season one could be just one victim in a Blade-Runneresque futuristic urban environment. They have absolutely no idea they have been impregnated.
Maybe they are being hunted by Jutou (The rival Chinese Company competing with Yutani in the Origins novel) who want the specimen.
Season one could end in the burster escaping into the city.
Season two. 12 hours of anarchy as the city falls to the xenomorphs. Maybe work in MonsterZero idea!! bring in an AI to solve the infestation but makes it more oppressive for the residents....just escalates from there. Just about writes itself lol
Great idea!
Double Post.
