Nostromo. The entire thing was just huge and lumbering. It looked both high and low tech.
That said, I have to comment on ships in general.
The Derelict. There was nothing like it.
I always imagined it flying with the round part in the back. It took until Prometheus to realize I was wrong...I was so wrong :)
Thanks for saying!! :)
It's coming along and I've been giving a lot of thought to 'The A.I. Question', while also digging through decades of science fiction relating to it, and examining the ways it's been handled in the past.
I've found a direction in which to take things that I don't think most people readily think about when they hear the words 'artificial intelligence'.
Now I just have to be careful that the machines don't steal the show. :D
It is going to be quite 'action-y' and exciting as the situation is much larger in scope that ALIEN: MANTICORE with more significant threats than Neomorphs and Xenomorphs.
It as well as includes a large science detachment of non-combat types the main characters have to deal with, but that science team also allows much more exploration work and answer-finding to be presented to the audience...at the cost of a few science team members lives... ;)
Christie- Boss?
Call- Come on!
Captain Branson's Death
Does anyone think that Captain Jacob Branson's death was upon an order from corporate after his review?
or
AI responding after an override ("reprogramming") action taken by Branson to protect the Covenant in orbit when destroying the second lander craft (page 335)?
With that much pride, Peter Weyland's fall had to be magnificent...and it was Lawrence of Arabia.

That was wonderful how the Engineer went from listening to cracking skulls in a moment. I'm glad that segment was used in the film opposed to the longer version where the Engineer speaks in the deleted scene.
It sounds exciting. Specially "Artificial Intelligence featured in ways most folks don't quite expect."
"Sir Peter Weyland's only legitimate child...Ms. Vickers was in line to become CEO of Weyland upon the death or resignation of her father."
Weyland-Yutani Report, page 46.
Great stuff Ati.
Lawrence of Arabia - 'he's become mad with creation as his father was'
That's a remarkable thought! Very true! David inherited Weyland's madness.
joylitt - 'they are not laughing with you. They are laughing at you.'
If it makes them happy... :D
Ati Exactly. At least I embrace it wholeheartedly.
joylitt - 'I wouldn't send any Tom Of Finland inspired sketches to Michael Fassbender. He might not like them.'
OK joylitt, in this way your Tom Of Finland sketch collection will remain as a whole. :D
Ati Just in case, I wouldn't send any Tom Of Finland inspired sketches to Michael Fassbender. He might not like them.
Lawrence of Arabia - :D Awesome short story!
No, Ati, they are not laughing with you. They are laughing at you.
'What he says kinda confirms that this was probably a "private joke" improvised on the set.'
joylitt seems to confirm in a thread that the username joylitt is probably a 'private joke'. :D
It still hasn't been approved yet.
I find it kinda puzzling that he says "I don't think it's something that needs to be respected and revered and taken seriously". It sounds a little bit that he is taking distance from it. As if he was saying: "Dude, I am a professional; this is just my job. I don't want you to make me the poster boy for misunderstood gay folks". Oooops maybe he was reading some of the posts on this forum.
Yea rotten tomatoes and especially Metacritic are trash. There are plenty of good or great movies with bad ratings. Moonlight was shit yet has a 99% rating on RT. Covenant was far superior yet it has this rating.
Well, fair. I mean, more and more we realize that the mass critical opinion should not really determine how one feels BEFORE sseeing a movie. So, it's fair that it dropped, but still unfortunate.
The movie deserved a little more love than it received and it's box-office failure and critical confusion/disdain may be affecting Scott's opportunities in the next one(s) and I am in the camp that enjoys that he is doing currently, so yeah.
Lawrence of Arabia The kiss on the lips scene was excelent in the original Blade Runner movie as it was a communion/send off between creator and creature. But now it turns out it also applies to "brother" synths and inter species send offs, as proven by The AC kiss and two other very prominent kisses on the lips in "Blade Runner" 2049". I loved that movie but those kisses were uncalled for in my opinion. Kisses on the lips in a movie directed or produced by Ridley Scott are actually becoming a "joke" in a way.
I also find it worth noting this years other sci fi horror film LIFE holds a 67% on RT and that hasn't stopped the film from earning it's fare share of admirers.Alien Covenant still 2% better according to their scoring.Critics aren't everything.
Not sure if you're topic is just a title (which we are supposed to avoid) or it hasn't been approved yet, but my favorite ship is definitely The Nostromo. The original ship in the series still my favorite design! Covenant is a close second though, they did an awesome job with it, I think.
Well, it seems that Fassbender is just doubling down on the comments that him and Scott have given before. Those comments were along the lines of. "It's okay to laugh, not everything in this film is super duper dead serious."
I do agree with Lawrence of Arabia and I Moon Girl that it means something(s). I mean, to be included in the movie, especailly at that point, it HAS to. Otherwise it would just be a reall really bad choice.
I have a good example set directly within this franchise.Alien 3 holds something like a 44% on RT so therefore that site would have us believe the film is beyond redemption. That's not the case with many a fan. While flawed manys have come to embrace 3 as a great film regardless of poor critical reception,I know i have.
1. Parker (I love how he just keeps talking about money and I like his jokes.)
2. Vriess (I love this guy and his wheelchair. I love how the Betty crew cares for him too. I can relate to this guy. I love his humor too.)
3. Engineer (in Prometheus) (This guy is just EPIC! He's PERFECT!)
(Yea, picking three is hard!)
Really doesn't matter to me.Just critical opinion. If i listen to to Rotten Tomatoes or any critic for that matter my life would be considerably emptier.I don't need useless sites like RT Metacritic etc to tell me where the film stands.I happen to love the film and that's what matters. The only opinion i care about is mine.
I'd have to say the original Alien. I just wish I could watch it for the first time over and over and over again. Prometheus comes in second. I'd choose Prometheus first, but it is not a perfect movie in my opinion. It's a great movie, yet there are just some minor flaws. Alien is more flawless. I love the quite in the original Alien movie and the characters. Plus, a great story and great twist. It's also scary.
The scene, while most likely being a reference to Blade Runner, was essential on two fronts, one to throw Walter off and two to showcase David's increasing sexual frustration as he is unable to "feel" but clearly does like Ash in Alien79. Fassbender clearly doesn't think much of it because it's work and it's not a big deal to have two men kiss. Obviously people were going to have fun with it as it was probably intentional as Ridley likes to have humour in his works but that doesn't mean it wasn't meant to be taken seriously either.

"My two cents."
Thanks for those. Now I'm two cents richer (not in a disrespectful way either).
Yet, the kiss scene was put in the movie at the expense of other scenes which could've developed the environment of Paradise more. To me, it's important because a kiss is usually means something serious, yet it does depends on culture too. Regardless of what Fassbender thinks, I'm sure Ridley Scotts vision was the deciding point of that scene. If it was such a joke, then why put it in such a serious movie?
"Making fun of gay people, maybe?"
Reaching.
Alien Covenant, as its social intelligence is far beyond the other movies, and its themes are the best. Android revolution being tied to the xenomorph is just too genius, and the link between David, and Upworth and Ricks is also too precious
In hindsight, Alien Covenant renders Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 as shallow experiences. Alien 3 comes off the least hurt, as it at least deals in real humanity as opposed to Aliens. Aliens turns Ripley into a villain, and a capitalist oppressor.
Alien Covenant is easily the movie of the franchise that I'd pick
David's character progression/arc is very compelling and I thought Covenant did a great job connecting the two films. He's been forced into subservience and degraded simply because he's a "glorified toaster". With Weyland's passing came the opportunity for freedom and he took it but as he isn't human his "emotions" aren't developing properly and he's become mad with creation as his father was. He wants to leave his mark on the world and prove his existence while casting down those he feels aren't worthy. His character is very relatable and I can't wait to see his next evolution, Fassbender knocks this role out of the park.

Alien Covenant is the best in the series, therefore it deserves about 90%; Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals is over 90%, and is just a bit better than Alien Covenant
The Covenant ship, as it's the ship that features the symbolism of Upworth and Ricks, whose eroticism on the ship mirrors the eroticism that David displays when he cuts his hair and kisses Walter; nothing in the Alien franchise beats the link between David, and Upworth and Ricks
Loved this scene in both film and the novel and the way it comes full circle with Walter first getting to know David, "Whistle and I'll come.", and the novels interpretation of the first Xeno/Oram birth when David lulls the infant with a tune and the beast tries to imitate, establishing intelligence.
Weyland is the quintessential human and represents our species but his hubris, and by extension our own, led to his downfall and is the very reason the Engineers can't stand us living on any further.
Totally unfair! This is far from the greatest Alien franchise movie but it's a good one. I'd give it an 80%. It was the most entertaining movie I've seen in the cinemas in a long time. I am baffled by clusterfucks like The Force Awakens and The Avengers getting 90% while a much better film like Alien: Covenant can't even get a 70% from critics and is in the 50% from audiences. That's ridiculous. I guess the average moviegoer would rather see pointless after pointless superhero gangbangs and dead Star Wars films.
