AtiAlien: Covenant ForumThe Prometheus Novel from Japan

Cosmonaut-Copper - *be right back learning japanese* - Such an easy language! :D

drucea - '...and that David can hack into ships and setellites apparently.' - That's an important piece of information. I think they will use that fact.

BigDave - 'So the Novel follows the earlier drafts more where Weyland is not on the ship?'

The translated Prometheus lines from the previous post show that Weyland is/was on the ship:

'Everything from the bridge to the alcove had been flipped and tossed about. In fact, Weyland and Ford’s bodies had been thrown into the hallway.'

cuponator3000 - Japanese letters are always cool. :)

Bishop "death" sort of....

was an excellent juxtaposition for female penetration with Ripley and Queen grappling over the impaled Bishop...that was mighty epic too and symbolic of the typical sexual perversion themes throughout the franchise

BURKE's demise was entirely satisfying, especially the deleted scene of him cocooned with a chestburster inside him. Ripley showed him little mercy either.

ali81Alien: Covenant Forumwatching alien3, couple of questions

I am actually in the middle of watching the bonus dvd of alien3 and they made no mention of visiting Giger. it seemed pretty early on that due to time restriction, the relationship between fox and Giger was at an all time low. Giger himse;f states he was faxing his concepts to the studio. but it would have been cool to see a cocoon scene

@I Moon Girl yep, I agree. So much potential in the ideas there. But there is hope we get more and more and more over time, even through sanctioned and "canonized" books as well as movies. If Star Wars can control all their books, the someone can certainly somehow exercise licensing and control of the "Alien" universe in order to "obey all the rules" and to keep continuity.

ALWAYS order my stuff online. Always have, even back to the early days of the 90's when Amazon and lots of other DVD stores like DVDplanet, etc were booming.

Needs to be sooner rather than later, for everyone's benefit, but especially the franchise's.

Timmy the ultramorph As for the neomorph, it made what sounded like clicking noises and I wondered if that hinted at echolocation. Likely not though.

spirit_light_speed You could be right- the movie was so plagued with issues it was almost surprising to come out all. I think the movie gets better with age.

Two years seems to be a respectable amount of time to wait.

Someone feel free to jump in here but I believe Fincher was going to transform the assembly hall set into a cocoon chamber (and Ripley et al we're supposed to come across the superintendent and a few other prisoners - either transforming into eggs or plastered to the walls - waiting hosts for birth of the queen). FOX pulled the plug on the idea because it would have been too expensive... it was either in the script or in the novel as well (that I honestly can't remember).

Would have made a great scene - and for the record, I LOVE Alien 3... my favorite in the entire franchise. Yeah, I'm one of those guys. Fiorina for life :D

Yeah was not a fan of the Xeno POV, any of them really, they were too easy and similar to ours.

They know A:C was polarizing movie. They won't wait another 5 years to release a sequel. I still think that third movie will be released in 2019.

I saw it as a nice homage to Alien 3 and it was cool to see it's POV from the dome.

lol I used to put my favorite artist's album on the Top 1 chart at HMV. Great work Timmy.

Guess I should do the same, and put a note on the shelf: "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair."

Oram's death (a beautiful metaphor), Kane's (iconic), Brett's (Xeno came down like it was nobodys business), Burkes (got his comeuppance), Hudson (went out like a boss), Newt (death of hope), Dillon(FIGHTING SPIRIT), Clemens (was not expecting that), Purvis&Dr.Wren (gave him the best head), Holloway's death (honorable way to go).

Kane death definitely. It's iconic.

Actually I like every death in 1979 Alien. :p

A well-written, and quite a thoughtful, honest review. I agree with every sentence. This movie, like Prometheus, will age gracefully.

Sounds like Mr Ebert wasn't watching the teasers and trailers leading up to the movie's release. It is nice to have everything on one blue ray though.

Covenant felt like a natural sequel to me if only thematically. Prometheus was about finding our creators and what they thought of us while Covenant was about our own creation and the potential dangers they pose. There is a lot of subtext in this film and stuff to unravel outside the spooky house/slasher which imo was well executed and disturbing. Yeah there were some redshirts but thats in every Alien tracing all the way back to Kane and that's kinda the point. A true Lovecraft tale isn't about the humans but the monsters and the horrific things they do. Scott crafted Covenant with care imo and hopefully time will be kind to it.

I believe those are the facehugger legs pulled back in a dissection drawing to give room to show the tube going through the mouth extending past the lower jaw line into the throat Ati.

I think the movie wanted to show the runner as a straight up killer since it came from a dog or ox depending on which cut we view. As far as the cocooning- maybe they are ignoring the Director's cut.

I don't know how different species of xenos would act toward each other.

dkAlien: Covenant Forumwhat sci fi creature/villain would you want the xenomorph to fight the most?

The only thing that might save the Xeno is if it were biomechanical. The Thing could only overtake biological material- the meat.

You do realize that on amazon.com Gotg 2 is out of stock on all formats? It is well outperforming AC. This should even more disconcerting for potential sequels. 2 out of 3 Fox Franchises flopped this year ... and in every one the main characters dies. Maybe that's not a great idea in these times?

And why in hell amazon us contains has 2 (+ reviews) score: 1 for the physical medium  and 1 for the digital download. The grade for the first is 3.4 (of course people who liked the movie in the cinema will by a physical copy) and for the later is 2.6? Why don't they show the combined rating like for every other movie (which would probably be around 3.1). Hope that this is only an error on part of amazon.

'Movie fan' got there first - the shape-shifting, f**ked up mess that is The Thing (John Carpenter) - now that would be one weird, gloopy smack down! I have a feeling The Thing would win, because it can take any form it's used before, and it's not dead until every cell in its body is burned, so the Xeno would be worn down eventually, and never be able to eradicate it....

murnauAlien: Covenant ForumSeeing what the Xenomorph sees- worth it?

I read that it was Ridley's homage to some of the B-movie sci-fi classics of the 50s, such as It Cam From Outer Space. But it was a mistake, I agree - if we are shown any kind of 'interior', then the creature becomes less other, and less scary. It should be blank, motiveless, unknowable. And in a movie already stuffed with incident, and a final reel that's edited to the bone, and who's pacing is rushed, it's one more detail we can do without.

I am a fan of the movie, though, even though it's a bit of dog's dinner. It's still more interesting than any sci-fi movie this year....
