I can only bank on what RS actually said. Doesn't matter much what I would want to hear, it is as he says.
The danger is the unanimous praise Fassbender gets for playing David. Don't get me wrong, I like him too, but the studios seem to think: Ok, a lot of people couldn't agree about Prometheus but they loved Fassbender; so why don't we make a whole movie about David. Good idea, right?... Well I hope they learnt their lesson from Covenant and somehow rediscover that old Alien mojo again, because I am 100% certain that even those who now say they love the AI focus will be bored to death if they again tell a predictable story.
red0guy@gmail.com I think it just takes a little bit of imagination. They need to get the audience excited again somehow.
I believe you but I won't listen to RS as I don't want to give any money to things I hate. And if that was a fairly regular occurrence why did they not reappear in the years David was on the planet? Do the ships maintain any kind of contact with their home-world. I guess not, but this is very unconvincing.
Yet again with new human characters? Or will Daniels survive (this would piss much as they killed Shaw)? Will the evil corporation WY fight the nazi robot, is anybody really interested in that? And if the engineers reappear, wouldn't it be just for being slaughtered? Will we learn know anything about their morality or their religion, about what they think about souls and stuff... Of course not.
Well if he did not wanted to he certainly succeeded in it and that's why find people liking the character very disturbing.
red0guy@gmail.com RS said it was a fairly regular occurrence and there was no reason for inhabitants to be suspicious. I encourage listening to his commentary. I am not making this up.
red0guy@gmail.com Well, David certainly wants to control and is involved in eugenics, and experiments that seem to mirror those of the 3rd Reich. I do not think that was ever Sir Ridley's intent though- to have David specifically compared to Nazis or its leadership.
red0guy@gmail.com That's ok maybe I misunderstood your previous post. To me this crazy version of David is not very compelling neither, that is why I hope in the next movie -if we get one- a secret agenda will be revealed, so we can see David under new light. It's been 2 movies already where David experiments with people with total impunity while everybody else is too dumb to guess what's going on. So, let's please move on form the same story.. I think you will agree with me on that.
And they was not suspicious about a ship missed more than 2000 years ago? I understand that the engineers don't evolve any more but they make absolutely no checks?
I don't understand where are you going with that question. All I wanted to say that before is that for me the AC David is not compelling at all, I can't have no sympathy for him, and sincerely I don't care about his final fate.
Ok... David as a personification (synth-etesis, pun intended) of nazism.
The RS commentary basically stated the populace was welcoming the juggernaut and that it was not an unusual occurrence. Those words are from RS and I will bank on it- until he changes his mind.....again.
Home Again, Home Again Jiggity Jig
This scene was in Blade Runner. OHH the Good times...
"Just like Prometheus, this is David's Story" this is false, sorry. Prometheus was way more multi-layered and you have must look also at the fact that in Prometheus, David was a unit, it was never case that he was the first synthetic built by Weyland. The prologue, induced meaning into P which we have no evidence that was there in the first place. This can confirm only Lindelof and/or RS.
And why can't you accept that people would not like the story of a nazi robot in space? Is this something new ? No, it is already a trope. Of course, it makes you want to puke, it's disgusting but not scary.
As far as David's experiments go, maybe the focus should look at Himler and Mengale.
dk I know. I read it somewhere before you told me. It's just in my mind it plays like a scene from a Mel Brooks movie.
red0guy@gmail.com Do you think Hitler was telling people you are in this facility because I am going to gas you?
"Basically, he would be goose stepping up the hall among the 2000 cryo colonists".... HELL NO!
I only state the fact. It is there if you wish to check.
In hind sight and what is going on right now in the world, it may be for the best that it was toned down.
Well I'm not convinced and even that was the case why then not try to explain yourself before commiting genocide and "evolving" people? I know why because that would bore those that wanted carnage...
"Basically, he would be goose stepping up the hall among the 2000 cryo colonists".... HELL NO!
That would have been comedy. That's what I mean sometimes Ridley's ideas can be a little bit out there.
In the urn drop sequence, it does indeed look like they hit some kind of invisible barrier/shield, but I assume it's just a way of deploying the virus far away enough from the ship so it doesn't infect the crew.
It wouldn't make much sense to have a barrier over the city, if the juggernaut was going to land in the hangar bay below.
The hanger automatically opens as the docking ship and juggernaut approach each other, so I doubt there's any shield in place to protect the people below
And if there was, what a crappy shield it was! :P
As a product of Weyland corp. I think that not all of humanity is to blame for his genocidal madness, not even our brightest mind. In the prologue to AC, Peter Weyland is depicted as a complete moron. As a lowly programmer as myself, when a piece of code would produce disturbing results, as he seem for a second but after that goes back to his stupor, the first thing i would do is debugging.
And we most note, that for some from the middle ages we already played God, with implants, transfusions and other medical devices and I don't think that those are bad things at all.
So no, David is the prime responsible for his actions as he became "free".
A madman inspired by beautiful classical music to embark in a genocide.
joylitt Yep- it is in the director commentary.
red0guy@gmail.com About Shaw and David. I was just referring to the fact that even the kindest person like Shaw would probably consider a synthetic nothing but a tool. And you are totally right, the depiction of David, with Wagner soundtrack and all is very reminiscent of the 3rd reich. I read somewhere that there was something else they cut from that last scene that was going even further into that direction.
thanks that you reinforce in me that David is a space nazi robot.
Interesting. I didn't want to say it first but RS stated in the AC commentary that the final scene had a Hitleresque vibe that was toned down. Basically, he would be goose stepping up the hall among the 2000 cryo colonists. Check it if you think I am exaggerating.
No, Shaw was expecting to die at the end of Prometheus and was skeptical about him after the squid incident (I would think she would have been about any thing related to Weyland). If anything she might have tough of him as some child (with the robot line). But by the Crossing the "relationship" seems to have evolved, maybe towards more understanding? But then he wanted to evolve her? What misogynistic piece of s**t would want that?
Albert Einstein was Jewish, so he emigrated to the US because of the Nazis and would definitely not worked on the A-bomb (for that you must have had pure Aryan blood, being member of the party). But your comparison applies way better to a certain Adolf Hitler, who in his youth wanted to become a professional painter but his ambitions were cut short because he failed the entrance exam to the Viennese academy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintings_by_Adolf_Hitler). So thanks that you reinforce in me that David is a space nazi robot.
I need to watch Paul again LOL! Besides Weaver is in it!
Eleven posts in this thread with only two contributing members so far. Sad.
Imagine if Walter had this reaction
OK. I am ripping from a previous Silliness thread to try to set the tone.

joylitt LOL- I suppose the only way to parody would be with a suggestive soundtrack- maybe with slightly overdriven guitars with a wah pedal!
Great post by Nastdane. For me it's Covenant for the same reason. Prometheus was fantastic, but Coventant was gripping in a way not many movies are.
dk What I mean is that was funny no matter if you are gay or straight. How are you going to parody that. You just can't. Maybe you can add some Barry White soundtrack but that's it lol
Surprised there's no love for the Covenant version ITT
joylitt Interesting question. My better half and myself watched and I told her all about the scene before hand. When we watched, we both looked at each other and said, what is the big deal? We got it but don't think it deserved a big to do about questions of sexuality identity. We just don't GAF about that stuff. In a way, I think it adds to the complexity of David.
dk You mean unintended comedy. So what do you think about the flute scene. Is it unintended comedy? How were we supposed to take those lines. Fassbender says the lines with a straight face and yet it is funny.
Some of the best comedy is observing people trying to be serious and utterly failing!
How about shameless ripoffs. I wonder is Covenant will get one.

joylitt That was absolutely terrible and I love it! I am surprised MST3K hasn't covered this since I have seen them all.
I think the amputation and repair was likely bad filming and people not paying attention lol! I love those sh%tty movies!
"You are so blinded by your need to create and advance that you ignore the fact you have set a course for you own demise- illogical"
