Shaka, When the walls fell
MemberOvomorph10/17/2011I have noticed over the years upon vieing prequels that one undenieable truth exists, you will never look at the originals in the same way. As the release of Prometheus draws ever slowly closer, has anyone thought about how the new film will effect how the others are viewed in the future. It is almost a loss of innocence, so to speak for me and my past viewing expirience and shown no better than the Star Wars prequels of the late 90's and ealry 00"s. JarJar and little Annie boy completely ruined the saga for me, and if they didnt the horrible acting and ridiculous one liners from Hayden Christiansen surely did. I cant watch the originals anymore and not think of Vader as a puny, wimpy, whiny, punk! This is a fear of mine in regards to Prometheus. Will the movie completely warp and take away, forever, the thoughts we have about the originals? If so, enjoy the remaining 9 months will be the last that we can enjoy the orginal films for what they are....
Thoughts???.........

MemberOvomorph10/17/2011For prometheus that can happen in a different way ... Scott is not obsessed with gadgets , audience , toys etc etc so is not that the risk ...however we can be disappointed by alot of things ( script , characters , tone ) and that will damage a bit the Alien experience .

MemberOvomorph10/17/2011I really think Sir Ridley may have been mindful about the hardcore fans of the
original and he may come up with something totally ambiguous which could well tie in with the original (if we see the 'signs' and we want it to) while having it so tenuous as to simultaneously leave it untainted.
I cannot see him being disrespectful to the fans and the mystique of his own 'baby'.
Fear not Blazer1411, it'll be alright on the night.

MemberOvomorph10/17/2011Let's remember too, that Scott used very little CGI and build all his sets full size unlike some directors who would just use a green screen...I think Scott has went back to his roots and old fashioned film making...depsite the 3D but I think will make very good use of the 3D and the huge sets as we saw....we will not be disappointed...

MemberOvomorph10/19/2011I think Scott will do a fine job and blow all our minds again. I'm looking forward to the connection as well but also to a new story that takes us to a whole new level.

No offense but I disagree completely with almost every single thing you said and you sound like you gathered bits and pieces of a story you don't know very well and decided to present them as if they were already truths.
1st of all, I and everyone else here..., "MUST" nothing.
2nd of all they never said they wanted to stay away from anything, what they said was that they were not going to make this all about linking to the Beginning of the Alien Story & Franchise, but rather... expanding and enhancing that story itself... with references a kin to "Alien DNA".
3rd off all what we know for a fact, is THIS and THIS ONLY...l
The film centers on the SPACE JOCKEY {a creature ripped apart by a Xenomorph by the way} and takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
4th of all, IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...LOL... it sounds very much to me like this thing is going to end with a massive battle between men and women and Xenomorphs.
and the Xenomorphs obviously WIN based on what we know form the other 4 films.
5th and maybe most important is this...they DO... AND THEY NEED TO WANT TO ...PROMOTE THE "ALIEN ANGLE", AND THE LESS THIS FILM CONNECTS TO THE OTHER 4 THE LESS HAPPY IT'S VIEWERS ARE GOING TO BE AND SCOTT KNOWS THIS BY NOW 100%.
The less the ALIEN idea is promoted in some new way in this film, the less success it will have...period.
The Xenomorph, always was and always will be at the CORE of these films and I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone would even want Scott to drop that basic piece of the total success out of all of this.
What they are doing I believe is just about the opposite of what everyone thinks...they're not taking the Aliens out of Alien, they're Expanding they're role and explaining it to us.
The Space Jockey was/is an ALIEN creature, {probably the exact "Growers" that Spaiths created in his original submission}
They've already mentioned a terrifying confrontation between Humans and Aliens to save the Human Race will take place in the film.
Ridley Scott has always believed that LESS is MORE, so his scares will be done the exact same way in this one that they were done in the first one...he probably will not use the Facehugger or chestburster to do that and so what?...those were just part of the same creatures' life cycle...but what he is probably going to do is tease the viewer by starting out showing us a little and moving slowly towards showing us a lot. This is what he does...and what he shows us is going to be related to the Space Jockey which obviously is the source of the eggs on LV-426...and that's where I think people got lost, The Eggs weren't there on LV-426 to begin with, what happened was the Space Jockey brought them there...and it's key to this ENTIRE FILM SCOTT MAKES NOW.
The best thing Scott can do to ensure the success of this film, is to make sure their are as many connections between the other 4 films and this one as is humanly possible.
But I think you and everyone else are getting carried away here because it's an ALIEN Franchise film no matter how you slice this and...
...you cannot have one of these without Aliens eating humans...it just don't and wouldn't work that way. The Xenomorph and Gigers' art DEMAND IT.

MemberOvomorph10/18/2011everyone want to pull prometheus to the side he like more : an horror movie , a erotickinky movie , an action movie , an avp movie , a geeks movie etc etc ... we will see
We have some solid points but who knows how it will be the finished product ...
btw ""4th of all, IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...LOL... it sounds very much to me like this thing is going to end with a massive battle between men and women and Xenomorphs.
and the Xenomorphs obviously WIN based on what we know form the other 4 films.""
well we can presume that the space jockeys race is wiped away ...and the xenomorphes got beaten in every movie :D So im not so sure about the xenomorph win here ..btw its possible that all the crew sacrifice themselves cos obviousely that will fit better with the Alien story

MemberOvomorph10/21/2011Well my thoughts - i think that star wars is a big circus for children.
I found the old AND the new episodes really boring and dumb.
Some nice pictures, but really brainless.
Also the robot jokes of R2D2 and his companion have never been funny to me - boring.
Star Wars its not science fiction, its disneyland in space!
I think prometheus will be great - not only because of the interesting story, and i think that everyone who saw Alien was deep impressed by the space jokey and the alien ship, so this could really be interesting.
Plus - i think Michael Fassbender is the most interesting actor nowadays, and i am sure he has the potential to dominate the cinema of the next 20 years. Forget about Christian Bale - boring sad man! And i am SO happy that in Prometheus you will NOT see Russel Crowe. I dont like him - boring. I never understood why Ridley Scoot likes Russel Crowe so much.

MemberOvomorph10/18/2011Im very excited about this movie. Not every sequels are good, but its a few years between alien 4 and this one.
I really have faith in Ridley Scott when it comes to this one :)
Theres a lot of good pin pointers that miser42 and spartacus mentionod, but are they really cutting the facehugger and chestbusters out of this film?
Not that they are my favorite parts of the movies, but they stil are a big deal when it comes to the growing cycle of the xenomorphs.
So cutting them out just to avoid it completely, makes it feel like some pieces might be lost?...

I read EVERY word,
Have much more to say but after that response of yours it is 100% obvious you took Offense to what I was trying to explain to you so I'll just bow down to your superior intelligence...
LMFAO !!!
seriously man !!!
THIS IS WORD FOR WORD EXACTLY WHAT RIDLEY SCOTT HAS SAID...AND NOTHING ELSE...
Scott acknowledged that Prometheus, while not be a direct prequel to Alien...
"It occupies the same general universe", saying the picture was... "inspired by a desire to explore the mystery of the “space jockey” the giant fossilized creature with the burst-open chest seen in the first Alien movie but never explained.”.
seriously !!!
Intelligence...?...
just LMFAO !!!

MemberOvomorph10/21/2011Hayden Christiansen - yo, good looking guy, but a really bad actor.
Maybe some 15year old teens may like him, but he is what he is - boring and not an authentic actor. Hopefully i dont have to see him again in a movie.
Even "Jumper" was boring.

MemberOvomorph10/22/2011I think that prometheus being done as a film as a alien sode story will allow alien to speak on its own. Ridley is aware of how the star wars prequels we recieved as far as their over all quality and I think that is the reason why he did not want this to be a direct prequel. Its smart because this could work into its own series kinda like dr who has torchwiod. This movie will give the space jockies their own account. Ridley is a pretty dry person in his interviews and I doubt the dialog will be tasteless like the prequels. Promrtheus may end up being citizen kane of sci fi if all the rumours we have heard so far are even just somewhat true.

Where's Wierzbowski
MemberOvomorph11/9/2011The biggest problem I see with prequels is they rob the originals of some of their mystery (especially when they aren't well done). The derelict ship in "Alien" fascinated me and I wanted to see more of it. I imagined being able to explore it, to discover its secrets (safely), and wondered at its history. The thought that I may actually see the derelict flying through space worries me.
Just as the Star Wars prequels robbed Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker of his mysterious past (something diehard fans spent countless hours imagining), Prometheus could do the same. Some of the best sci-fi movies I've seen tend to not answer all the questions, because our imaginations are always more powerful than something put down on film.
Prometheus is promising to me because it connects to Alien without being a true prequel. It may answer some of the questions of the Space Jockey and the derelict, but I hope it leaves some questions unanswered.
