Call me crazy, but if you look at the lips, in particular, the face of the statue looks a bit like Patrick Wilson. Perhaps his character has something to do with Earth's past link with the "creators". Man, I can't wait for this movie!

Hard to say, but according to one of Theron's interviews, "he only appears in flashbacks".

I agree. Patrick Wilson has said that his part was small but he'd "carry his own weight". There was also a comment about "size". Wondering if these are subtle hints. Could be that the statue is in more of the movie and his actual character is just shown in flashbacks to explain what the statue represents.
