MemberTrilobite01/1/2012First we've got this guy in the chair from Alien...

Then we've got this guy from the Prometheus trailer...

A lot of people have been assuming that they are one and the same, much to peoples disgust. But what if the Engineers and Space Jockeys are two seperate beings even races. Could the Space Jockeys be the brawn and the Engineers are the brains, or could the Engineers just be a creation of the Jockeys used to communicate within races visiting the temple to find the truth about their origins?

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012Same being for me.
Think about it, wouldn't it start being a little too far fetched to introduce two new species?
Scott has mentioned several times that his inspiration to do this film was to explore the guy in the chair (who is actually in a suit) and that is what we'll end up getting imo.
And why is it much to people's disgust? The big fella is still only humanoid, but other worldy enough to be alien looking. His back is biomechanoid too and the size is right contrary to arguments.

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012i think the main problem is that we want to be SCARED as hell in an "alien" movie ...and the big guy as its dont scare anyone ..,its more for a plot like " they find a giant humanoid used as a slave from an evil race ...but hes good inside and he make friendship with Timmy ..a little orphan boy that is aboard the prometheus (ehm Magellan )..."

Lol Frantz.
I think he has the potential to be scary but it won't be them, it will be their creations or mutations that will run riot (imho of course)

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012This may sound like a silly question, but why would a being so looks to me to be pretty sophisticated and wearing that sleek outfit, have such a retro looking and homely suit as in the jockey chair?

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/1/2012Personally, after over 30 years of waiting, to find out that the thing in the chair was just a big human is somewhat of a kick in the goolies, which is why i doubt that it is the case. Ridley will be aware of how people would view such an atrocity.

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorph01/1/2012I hate the idea that the jockey is fused to the chair...it only hints more at the suggestion that it is just a suit (and before anyone quotes anything Sir. Ridley said in the last month)....I KNOW!...we all fucking know by now!...(I guess i am being unfair to newer members....but just post a link if it is old news!)
I am almost hoping that he was deliberately misleading the fans ( in fear that we might discover the plot) ...but I am guessing he was'nt...lets just hope that the jockey is at least some kinda intergalactic sociopath...or that he or it can morph into something that looks more Gigerish looking......assuming that is even an engeneer/SJ?

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012He's never said it was a big human in a suit, but the thing we saw in Alien was a biomechanical suit/armour
The big fella is "humanoid", but so is the xeno (two arms and legs...), but he definately isn't human.
I'm ok with it, and it sort of fits the "god" theme of made in their own image, but I can understand why some people don't like the idea.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/1/2012Looks human to me, a big human, but still a human.
People are assuming that this guy is the Jockey from one 1-2 second piece of footage, a knee jerk reaction.
IMO this guy is not the Space Jockey, same as I believe that the object being scanned here...

...is the skull of a Space Jockey, and the two are obviously not the same.
I know some people think that it is not a skull but a helmet, but I do not buy that.
IMO this tall guy is a messenger to the humans created in their ultimate (evolution wise) because of his striking resemblance to the big head.
Regards the Space Jockey, I imagine the creature will be lowered into the chair from above.

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012Thnk about all the different bizarre alien/monster configurations we've seen in movies since 1979. Weird and bizarre has become almost stereotypical. It wouldn't surprise me in the least, if the SJs turned out to be horrifically bad guys who look more than a little bit like us. There's a certain disturbing irony in that, which you simply wouldn't get with yet another slimy monster, no matter how well it was designed.

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012There's a difference to "human" and "humanoid".
humanoid
1. a creature resembling man, as one of man’s early ancestors.
2. Science Fiction. any manlike creature from another planet. — humanoid, adj.
People are assuming it's a Jockey because it is operating a Jockey chair.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/1/2012Picking hairs friend, and being a tad condescending...
All we know is that there is a big human/humanoid next to the Space Jockey chair.
Everyone has already had the knee jerk reaction claiming this guy is a Space Jockey, why not expand on the possibilities available beyond that.
For all we know that assumption could be wrong, and if it is we may get close to what the tall guy really is.
If the assumption is right, then at least we have been open minded and exercised our imaginations.

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012I'm not splitting hairs or being codesending.
You said it's a human and it's obviously not and i was trying to point out the difference.
People think its a jockey because it ticks all the boxes about what we know.
You don't like the idea, fair enough, but i can buy it.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/1/2012Lets chill on the specifics what I'm trying to say, and is also the point of the thread is what other possibilities could there be other than the feared "he is a space jockey".

MemberOvomorph01/1/2012Snorkelbottom, I agree with you that the object on that scanning table looks an awful lot more like a skull, than any helmet.....but to me, whatever form the SJs take, is secondary to just how nasty they turn out to be. I'd be far more disappointed by a less nasty disposition, than I would, by a more human appearance.

GoldenFleece
MemberOvomorph01/2/2012Hey first post :-).
I agree with snorkel.
Lets just say the head on the table is a helmet for the big guy. It would be very ineffective, in fact he wouldn't be able to see out of it very well. Small holes to see from would result in tunnel vision. Not only that, the big guy seems to have the same skull proportions as ours, however the "helmet" on the table has the visual holes very near the side of a very wide skull - they are too far apart.
It could actually be a helmet as Scott has said, but not for the big guy, for something else.

The High Priest
MemberOvomorph01/2/2012I hate the whole suit helmet crap but the bottom line is Scott has already clearly stated it is a suit so chances are the big dude is the space jockey who gets into the suit. Best we can hope is the suit is some symbiotic life form that melds with the jockey.
