MemberOvomorph01/8/2012I think that the story is going to be somewhat similar to the Halo franchise. In the halo franchise a highly religious alien race (the covenant) is incredibly powerful and worships mythical extra-dimensional beings known as "forerunners", because they apparently had the ability to "cleanse" the galaxy with their weapon technology. They find out eventually that this weapon was designed against the ultimate threat, the flood. A biological...parasite...alien...that had the ability to infect/wipe out the entire galaxy.
I think given that prometheus is written by the guy who did lost, their will probably be some time travel or flash backs involved and that is where the "cocooned man" will come into play.
As for the story similarities, just based on hearsay i think prometheus is about the humans finding this bio technology and coordinates to our potential creaters. they here about this "fire", and of course weyland and them want on board (charlize therons character) it turns out that the engineers/space jockey's "fire" is the xenomorph. A parasite creature that transforms into a deadly killing machine.
could be totally wrong but thats my guess....
I really hope this movie isnt the drizzling dogshit that most sci-fi/horror movies have been recently...

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012There may be some similarities, but probably only in terms of what Halo borrowed from other sources.
I read a rumor the other day (only read it in one place, so not really what I'd call a "rumor", maybe just a "theory") that the film would borrow elements from HP Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", which is more or less about an ancient civilization that was wiped out by their own creations. But one or two specimens still survive to be reawakened by our intrepid heroes. A very interesting take, and one that I may attempt to put together myself at some point, depending on how Prometheus comes out.
I just hope you're wrong about time travel.. I've read that (thankfully) fake synopsis that goes on about time travel and such. I don't think this series needs that, and it would be quite a cop-out to see them go that way, I think. We do have some confirmation of "beginning of time" stuff, but I gather that's mostly flashback kind of stuff.. seeing what the SJs did on Earth a million years ago, then jumping ahead to today.
First post, by the way, glad to be here! Seems to be some slightly more intelligent conversation about the franchise here compared to what I've seen on other forums.

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012Jockey2016, I agree with you. I hope that there is no time travel in this movie. If it is by a wormhole than maybe I could live with that. I would cringe a little. I would be totally appalled if it was time travel based on human technology. That would throw ALIEN out of whack in sorts. I mean if WY had that technology at their feet then they could have deployed mission after mission until they secured the Xeno after the previous failures. I really hope time travels is not anything RS would toy with!

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012Here is what I am trying to figure out thought is on on of the trailer to the trailers Ridley didi say something to the effect that this movie is not moving forward but backwards. I am just feeling like Ridley is goving us these hints like riddles.plus lindenof wroting the thing it could happen.

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012I'm thinking that the jockey ship was old and was on a predetermined path to this planet and along the way aliens broke loose. It takes them thousands of years to reach this planet...hence why in alien the crew finds the jockey "fossilized" The planet was probably a long ago base of operation for the jockey's. Which may explain why the ship breaks apart in the trailer cuz it enters the atmosphere with no one to pilot it.
Its obvious that some how the jockey's had some kind of role in creating humans. and maybe created other intelligent life too. And the xenomorphs are created by the jockey's as the option to exterminate the humans they created should they feel the need to. or maybe the aliens are more of a universal intelligent species bio weapon. but It seems too perfect for the aliens to breed with and eradicate humans to not be created to wipe out humans. So, this is why weyland wants in on the action since they probably find this out about the xeno's in the movie - that they are the "anti-human". so then they can sell the aliens to the military for huge sums of money. and that ends up being the basis of the movie. or maybe the jockey's find out humans are too advanced and a threat or cruel and maybe plan to send an army of aliens to earth when they meet the crew of the prometheus. who knows for sure.
Also, another line of thought is about that weird guy that seems to start changing into something in the trailer. im thinking along the lines of the original way the aliens bred that was in the deleted scenes of alien where they change their host biologically while still alive somehow. maybe there's a way for the jockey's to change a human into a xeno and thats what may be happening to this guy. just a thought. i really have no clue about what happens to that guy. I mean though i did see where ridley did make mention theres more to the prometheus back story where he makes mention of the continual punishment of the greek prometheus and a link to the movie. maybe the transformation of the humans to xenos could be that way? or maybe like i said earlier, that the jockey's plan to send a xeno army to earth?? thoughts?

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012In my view the cocooned man who intends to attack the crew was one of the crew before.
But he infected by a virus in the world of engineers . thus his body changed and Ridely said that there has alien DNA may mean that there will not aliens but you saw that the cocooned man 's action is quite similar to the alien's . He may be the role replace the alien.

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012yea that sounds entirely possible....but would be lame for the movie...but definitely possible. hope that its not centered around that

MemberOvomorph01/8/2012another thought...the jockey's stole tech from an even greater species and head to that planet with bad intentions and maybe get intercepted by the other species. maybe the two have a long standing feud with the other species. maybe jockey's wana wipe out the "beautiful" humans created by the other species as a eff you kinda deal or wana wipe us out because maybe originally we we're created by the more godly aliens for some purpose to work against the jockey's...so the jockey's created the xenomorph to effectively exterminate us?
or what if the more godly aliens punish the jockey's by some how transforming them into the xenos? there are some close similarities in body shapes and markings on their bodies..but this could be like how its explained by ridley that someone gets punished like the greek prometheus does. haha...theres so many options.
