MemberOvomorph01/10/2012Was looking at the official information and wondered what can we be fairly sure of up to now:
" The search for our beginning could lead to our end". -Poster
"Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race." - Facebook Page
Things we have good reason to suppose:
1.) Corporations have won the power struggle battle in the future (Weyland advertising its assets in the machinery as well influential enough to send a "suit" on the mission). This goes in line with Aliens and the rest of the other movies. The mission is most probably privately funded and not a product of any government per se. There must be some perceived eventual economic prize (technological, etc.) to that company for it to invest on such an endeavor; at whatever cost to itself and humanity most probably. This, am sure will be a source of conflict on this one.
2.)There is an archeologist/scientist aboard (Noomi), so it appears at least there will be a mythology surrounding our own archeological interests. It also sounds like it will be 2001-ish.
3.) There will be a battle. Against whom? We'll have to see.
4.) It certainly has Alien DNA (previews and official statements from Ridley)
5.) It will be intense.

MemberOvomorph01/11/2012"It's the story of creation, the gods and the man who stood against them. It's not a small film." - Ridley Scott. It's story line has been described as, "In the late 21st Century, the crew of the Prometheus explore the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race searching for the origins of humanity." Then I read a quote from Scott saying they find "uncivilized behavior" going on at the location of this advanced race. So, I wonder who "the man who stood against the gods" is? Is it one of the Prometheus crew, or the space jockey?

With Damon Lindelof (of LOST creative team), you could expect some crazy time loop, time travel scenario. If you are not familiar with the show LOST, it is about a group of survivors of a plane crash who got stranded on a tropical island with, yes, ancient remnants of secret temples (!) with Egyptian hieroglyphics, references to iChing, a doomsday machine with a countdown clock, psychological experiments, polar bears running around in tropical forrest, weird smoke entities, fanatic cults with strange pagan rituals, and other bizarre stuff.
Some of the wild speculations that the fans of that TV series thought up is that the survivors are not the first one to arrive in the island. There may be waves of humans being brought to the island throughout the ages since the times of the Egyptians. What if this company, Weyland Yutani, is some cult funded by some misanthropic psycho who intentionally leaves clues for curious humans to find and to trap them in a cosmic genetic game. And for those who work in big corporations before, they know they are all cults of some kind.
OK, the last few lines are a little wild :-)
