I want to say it was about 5 years ago, I saw a version of Aliens on AMC one night that was exactly like the Special Edition release but had one extended scene in it. (It may of had more but I caught it 20 minutes before the scene)
It is an extended conversation between Burke and Ripley about Burke sending the colonists to the derelict ship.
Has anyone else seen this and/or knows where I can find this? I have the quadrilogy and Anthology but neither has this scene.

never saw that one, but ill definatley search it. really got me intrigued on this one man
Shellac242January 15, 2012
I have been searching ever since I had seen it. I have often wondered if I just dreamed it but I have met one other person who, knowing how huge of an Aliens fan I am, asked me if I had seen it and he saw it too on AMC.

deadcellJanuary 15, 2012
ive never seen it and i own every version of aliens i have seen available, including the original vhs. got to be some more info on it

craigamoreJanuary 15, 2012
Can you be more specific about the details of the conversation? Because I have the DVD release of the Special Edition from 99' and it has a conversation between Ripley and Burke about sending them to check out the derelict's coordinates.
Ripley: "I checked the company log dated */*/79...signed Burke, Carter J....You sent them out there and you didn't warn them. Why didn't you warn them Burke?"
Burke: "I made a bad call Ripley...It was a bad call......"
Ripley: "A Bad call? These people are dead Burke. Don't you have any idea what you've done here? Well I'm going to make sure they nail you to the wall for this. You're not going to sleeze your way out of this one...right to the wall."
Can you recall what they said beyond those lines I was able to remember there?
Shellac242January 15, 2012
The only thing I get when I search for it is the Cocoon scene. (Which in my opinion is awful and glad it made the cutting room floor).
The scene is:
Bishop tells Ripley that Burke wants the Aliens kept alive to be returned to the company labs. Instead of the abrupt cut to Ripley standing over Burke, You see Ripley walk away from Bishop and go to a computer to look into logs for the colony. She sees Burke signed the order and gets up and goes to Medical where Burke is and starts talking with him. Ripley does not come right out about knowing he sent people to look at the derelict and quickly catches Burke lying to him and slowly becomes less calm with him.
This is where the scene picks up in the official releases, with Ripley standing over Burke looking displeased.
It may have played out a little differently but as my memory serves this is pretty accurate to what I saw. It was 5 years ago but has been on my mind since.

deadcellJanuary 15, 2012
hmmm, intresting. the cocoon scene is a bit controversial. it does slow the movie down alot and brings up alot of questions, but the model of bret is awesome
Game Over Man!January 15, 2012
Burke replies: "You know Ripley I thought you'd be smarter"
Ripley: "Well Im happy to disappoint you."
Somewhere in your summary up there Burke talks about why he instructed Bishop to take a speciment back. Burke talks about how the alien would be worth millions to the Bio-weapons industry.
Shellac242January 15, 2012
I meant the Burke Cocoon scene. I think the Alien cocoon scene was interesting but I'm ok with that being left out.
Though I do remember about 6 years ago when they released a copy of Alien that was played at theaters and it had a cleaned up and plot integrated version of that scene. It worked well but still kind of stumbles the story.

craigamoreJanuary 15, 2012
It probably isn't available on DVD. I've seen that before with other movies. Scenes you couldn't even find in the deleted scenes make it into a special cable cut of the film...weird, I know, but I've seen it before.
examples: Dune, a number of the Harry Potter films

deadcellJanuary 15, 2012
"and if your smart, we'll both come back heros and be set up for life"
"your crazy burke, you know that. how will you get a dangerous organism back through icc qurantine.
"how can they impound it, if they dont know about it."
Shellac242January 15, 2012
Well If anyone happens to have a taped off cable version of the film let me know haha. *Long shot*

bigbirdjimmyJanuary 16, 2012
I have a question that may be off the topic, but someone might know. How far from the colony was the derelict ship? Because I have always wondered when they blew the colony, did the explosion distroy the space jockey ship too? I think it was to far away to be destroyed and should be still there. Does anyone know? Maybe it was answered in a book or something. If not destroyed, maybe someone will write a book or make a movie going back to LV426.

CBT1979January 16, 2012
well, you guys should know that the conversation between Burke and Ripley where it becomes obvious that Burke has sent the colonists to find the derelict ship and getting upset is not an extended scene but has been always since the cinematic version of the movie!
Cvm3636January 16, 2012
All the extended footage is available in the special addition which was released with the alien trilogy box set. And as far as distance it couldn't have been that far from the colony the crawler newts parents used to get there didn't seem to move all that fast. Plus since the company knew it was there the proximity of the colony to the derelict was probably intentional.

The scene extension comes before Burke and Ripley are talking. The scene that was left in the movie is a shortened version of the scene I am talking about. You get the ending of the scene in the original cut. There is about a minute or so of Ripley checking the computer records then going to Burke and starting a conversation about it before the original scene comes in.
The original scene has Burke starting off saying - "Look those things are worth millions to the bio weapons division."
In the deleted cut, Ripley begins talking with him and catches him lying/not telling the whole truth and then Burke starts explaining himself. This is where the original scene comes in.
I have 3 different VHS release copies, 4 DVD copies and the Blu Rays. None of them have this scene.
I wish James Cameron were here!
Shellac242January 16, 2012
Ugh! Every time I remind myself of this I think more and more that I am insane. I have checked 3 different versions of the script and none of them have this scene in them.

Bacon BoyJanuary 21, 2012

Me neither, I just freaked, It's incredible that that scene has been in the can for 33+ years now and we just both saw it for the first time right here !!!

BiomechanicJanuary 21, 2012
Ha! She just leaves him there. I always wondered though I mean yeah Dallas wanted her to kill him but I doubt if he meant by fire. That's not exactly a quick painless death ask any old witch.

In this scene with Burke she gaves him a little grenade. That's what i read about this on great polish site http://www.kmf.org.pl/fx/alienss.html .
JasonmatthJanuary 21, 2012
The scene your're talking about is on youtube. It was also in the book based off of the movie.

@Jason, it is posted right above what you posted about three times!!!
Just FYI...is it a good time to tell you to check first? Either way no worries, we've all been there.

shardyJanuary 21, 2012
in spite of the fact that i trash "Aliens" a lot,
i do own the "Aliens Special Edition" laser disc
(yeah lasers discs - - remember those?)
i vaguely recall the convo between Burke and Ripley, but i do believe that
extended convo IS included in that laser disc set, and is the same version
that AMC aired, and has been airing the past year, Spike TV too i think(?)
of all the extended footage,
the scenes that come to m mind are Newt's family "discovering"
the derelict, the sentry blasters in the corridor (seemingly firing at nothing),
and the convo at the beginning of the film with some character named "Lydekker"
who by the way packing his very own sentry gun in his slacks. sorry for that...
but it's true!
in any case, as much as i've grown to detest Cameron's carbon copy
of ALIEN, i think the film reads better overall WITH ALL the deleted scenes
added, i just wish Cameron would have left them all in. i feel it helps to make
his film a bit more original, and a tiny bet less like a duplicate of ALIEN

craigamoreJanuary 21, 2012
@shardy...I agree with you about 'Aliens', I have my very own purturbed feelings about it, but I do have to say, Cameron wanted the extra scenes in his film. Fox was horrified with the length and forced him to make trims throughout. When he brought it to them a second time, the cut we know as the theatrical cut, they wanted him to trim again, but he absolutely refused. They reached a compromise in which that cut would stay the way it was and Cameron signed a contract to direct two future projects for Fox, one of which I believe was 'True Lies'.
Trust me, if Cameron had had his way, pretty much all of those scenes would have made it in.

shardyJanuary 21, 2012
@craigamore: well, with that info regarding Fox and the studio heads,
i can more than understand why Cameron would be forced to cut said scenes
it's really quite a shame too,
but he did get a nice deal out of it after all i guess
thanx for that info

craigamoreJanuary 21, 2012
No problem @shardy, glad I could help...you should check out the documentary narrated by John Hurt called, 'The Alien Saga'....it's very informative and enlightening about all four films...(it's where I got the cameron info).

Bacon BoyJanuary 22, 2012
I FOUND IT IN THE 20th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION BOXED SET! (the extended scene, I mean)

danraldJanuary 22, 2012
Spartacus,
In addition to Ripley running into Burke, I heard that she also runs into Hudson..
Hudson says to Ripley "Ripley... Do you have any Pepto Bismol?"... Ripley just shakes her head and leaves...
b5historymanJanuary 31, 2012
The reason she gave the grenade to Burke was because he had been implanted. Blowing himself up would be considered a small mercy compared to his order that resulted in wiping out an entire colony.
