Looking at our dear friend beardyman: I can't help but notice, he's not really much of a mutant is he? He's just sort of charred. Now I know the crew turning into mutants has never been confirmed as a plot point, but for the purpose of this discussion let's just pretend it has been. I hope Ridley has gone with an R-rated base for the film (regardless of what rating gets cut later), because we might end up with some really scary stuff. (Sans the excessive penises). If he's gone with a PG-13 base for the film I've got a bad feeling the mutants will just be a bit half-arsed: I'm counting on beardy man being in the first stages of mutation. What do you guys think? If mutation occurs; how far will they push the envelope? (Design wise) Carlos Huante (who was employed to carry out some of Prometheus' creature design actually creates some pretty amazing/grotesque stuff, so we can only hope!

This Carlos Hunate guy is pretty talented, look at some of his art: Assembly line of bio-synthetics? This is OTT, may be suitable for John Carpenter's THE THING. But for Ridley?

Well the highlights of this guys work (according to IMDB) are... The Real Ghostbusters (Top cartoon and comic, showing my age) Men in Black I and II War of the Worlds The Mummy Dreamcatcher Signs Blade Trinity Hellraiser IV Bloodline Hellboy X-Men: Last Stand The art that I can find by this guy seems to be about the over-emphasis and twisted forms to the human body, very reminiscent of Gustave Dore IMO

@Snorkelbottom I don't think you would compare Gustave Dore classical drawings to this Carlos guy. It's like classical vs hip hop.

scratch that, it seems this guy has worked on a hey of a lot of films as a concept artist. @ Frantz, that said he did some concepts for the characters from the capcom fighting game Darkstalkers

For the fans of the idea of a proto-alien appearing in Prometheus, heres one of Carlos' concept (not for Prometheus)...

@Snorklebottom, You are right. Dore did an illustration of a spider-human hybrid condemned in Hell for all eternity. My favorite is of course a winged Satan trapped waist down in an icey lake. Looks like he is waiting a long time for the ice to melt

Classical art is anatomical art, this guy has some real talent, but their are few examples of anything giger-esque that I can find

I still think that the true Xenomorph will be a combination of human, original SJ and some other species DNA. . .

I am sure if the studio or Ridley want PROMETHEUS to be in the same league as the original ALIEN in terms of cinematic horror, they would have to come up with some nasty, no-holds-barred creature design. Yet we don't quite know what PROMETHEUS will end up as. A minimalist scifi horror like ALIEN? Or a more oblique, contemplative drama like SOLARIS, or EVENT HORIZON? An alien-themed space adventures like the horrible MISSION TO MARS? With the writer of LOST brought in, can we expect some time travel/wormhole concepts thrown in to complicate things? The trailer to 1979 ALIEN at least has one or two frames of the chestburster. You see no alien life form whatsoever in PROMETHEUS trailer. Is this a creature feature like ALIEN at all? Suspense is killing me, people.

All of this looks like artwork for the next Resident Evil game, it´s all grotesque and twisted but not really original. Most importantly, it lacks the sexual connotations that IMO made the Xenomorph design creep under your skin and triggers your innermost fears.
