MemberOvomorph01/20/2012Hello Everyone,
I'm new to posting (first time anywhere tonight)... Hope I put this in the right place. I have been reading what I can from you all for some time now. I'm extremely impressed with the level of discussion across all the topics. Here's my contribution:
I'm a big fan of the Alien-esque universe, having made both a scale costume of a soldier and queen through the years. Back in '79 I was in college in FL and was so impressed by the original alien film, that I took my whole fraternity to see it at a drive-in. Afterwards I was throwing a party at my place and had made a cardboard face hugger with moveable legs (fishing line attached to each, then into it's center). I flipped it on its back and filled it with rotting meat topped off by a large oyster and left it on a speed bump out side my apt. My nerdy roommates and I hid in a bush for 20 mins. pulling on the line and getting the thing to spaz as all my frat brothers' cars slowed down to see it. Then a dog ran up and grabbed it spiriting it into the night so I went and got lit. I hadn't thought of that in 33 yrs. Thanks for the memories Prometheus...

MemberOvomorph01/20/2012That's the best 'this stupid, yet awesome, thing I've done' story I've heard in a long time.....thanks for that.
Thinking back, I remember the days in my childhood when there was no Netflix online rental service, no brick and mortar Blockbuster/Hollywood Video mega-chain stores...just your everyday mom and pop video store here and there. Mine was called West End Video. It was three blocks from my house and I think back on how my love of movies started there. I'd move up and down the isles, mesmerized by the various titles I'd never seen, yet could not wait to consume.....
...and even now, I look back and I can see this black, grey and green tape that was always in the corner, with its torn and freyed cardboard edges and that fascinating picture of a cracked green glowing egg hovering over a rusty metal grate. I was fascinated with that tape, going back to it over and over until my parents finally let me rent it. I read that description countless times.....of horror in space with probably the greatest tagline in history, "In space, no one can hear you scream." That still makes me smile

MemberOvomorph01/20/2012And now it makes others smile too. Ever wonder why the egg on the box was just an egg and not a more realistic representation from the movie? Symbolism aside... Or maybe it's just that simple... So might the "big head" be?

MemberOvomorph01/20/2012PS.
The best 'this stupid, yet awesome, thing I've done' story... Is when I took a tumble (in downtown Orlando) off my drywall stilts as the queen... Dumb, dumb, dumb.

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012Yes, seeing the pics of the Prometheus sets at Pinewood (and the dismantled set pics) remind me of the behind-the-scenes pics in 'The Book of Alien' back in '79.
This in turn remind me of the music that was out that year and what a damn good
year for music it was - Bowie's album 'Lodger' will always be associated with this
for me, New wave, Metal, Abba, 'M' ("Pop-pop-pop Museek"), Eurodisco, good soul and funk, the 'Chic' sound, Kate Bush ("Wowwowowowowow") everybody looking different and gorgeous girls in the clubs dancing to great tunes - I miss the '79-'81period, it was superb!

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012music was great from 77 onwards up till 82/3 punk/ new wave/ska / reggae/bands like devo and electro was making an impact , and to top it all you had blade runner in 82 with that Vangelis soundtrack which was so hard to find in those days there were bootlegs at record fairs and a dodgy blade runner interpretation by the london Philharmonic Orchestra but getting hold of the original was a nightmare.

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012it reminded me of the anticipation and excitement I felt as I went to buy Alien on Dvd for the first time. Even though I had seen it on T.V. I couldn't wait to get home and watch it properly and see the origins of the beast, as it were. I feel the same now over Prometheus. I dont think I have ever felt so excited about a movie release, well, at least not since the AVP disater, lol. I know thats a hated subject on here, but I didnt have the internet when it came out and was expecting it to be the greatest movie ever!
sadly it wasn't. So I'm hoping Ridley can re instil my faith in the universe he and Giger created.

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012Agreed Altered, such humble beginnings. Who would have dreamed that we would all be so in love with one man's creation? well, a collaboration of men lol. See the SJ's have nothing on us lol

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012Ahhh yes...the brilliance of Dan O'bannon.....you wonder if we'll see anything original that has half the prowess of 'Alien'. I put 'Prometheus', it's potential, in that category, but still, it's springs from 'Alien....so what does that tell us?

MemberOvomorph01/21/2012Pity O'Bannon isn't around to see Prometheus. He'd give Fox merry hell
for compromsing on the rating I bet!

MemberOvomorph01/22/2012Agreed zeta,
The way he was treated in the original film by certain people i would be surprised if Dan O Bannon would have been persuaded to go on another journey with those people again.
However he had a lot of respect for ridley and Giger and the crew on the film so i hope he gets at the very least a mention in the credits of his memory.
