Hi guys, I've been thinking about the skills of terraforming of the Engineers and I could not help to recall part of the plot of the novel 2010: Odyssey two. This novel was written by Arthur C. Clarke and is the second book of the tetralogy.
This book was adapted to film by the name of 2010: the year we make contact. This film reveals two life forms aliens (other than monoliths-producing entities): creatures that live among the clouds of gas of Jupiter and the others are creatures that live in low layers of ice in Europe; in their ice oceans.

At a time the entities controlling the monoliths decide to promote the evolution of the Europans, since you had a greater chance of achieving development as a civilization. Then decide to sacrifice creatures of Jupiter, in this way a swarm of monoliths swallows Jupiter. The monoliths increase the density of Jupiter to the point that the planet achieves high temperatures and pressure necessary for nuclear fusion, becoming thus a small star.
In this way Europe ice sheets of melt to create a tropical ocean world. some time later the Europans are a civilization similar to ancient indigenous cultures of the Earth.

In Prometheus, we will see a process of terraforming in the mounting of the opening of the film. But that is only the beginning, the beginning of life on Earth.
What if the Engineers are tired of humanity?
What if you come to destroy the end of the movie?
It is quite possible that just as mankind created at the beginning of the movie, also may want to destroy it using their special biological weapon. The most likely is that to find faults in humans choose to create a new race and part of this process of creation involve the destruction of homo sapiens.
I think that it is very possible that the Space Jockey that we saw in Alien, the eighth passenger is a destroyer of worlds. Perhaps his attempt to infest the Earth was arrested by humans, perhaps by Elizabeth Shaw and Meredith Vickers.
