Just started this thread to clear up exactly what ya'll think exactly is the link between these two species in the Prometheus movie. There's plenty of evidence to indicate links between the two, but just kinda interested as to what exactly will prove to be the correct one! I think that either a SJ kinda "transforms" into the very first Xeno-type creature OR they bio-engineer them, with not so good results. . . Discuss!

I have always thought, even before rumors of Prometheus, that the Alien was some sort of the biological weapon. It's just to perfect to be a naturally evolved being. It adapts to any DNA it encounters, has caustic blood that is universally corrosive, is hostile to all other lifeforms, and can adapt to any environmental condition. The Jocks either created it as a weapon, a terra-forming device, or maybe even a defense mechanism against other even more powerful races out there in the galaxy. It is also possible that the reason the Jocks don't come along and destroy Earth after their encounter with Prometheus is that they were also destroyed by their own creation.

The big head is the alien engineer prometheus finds in this movie what I`m guessing. Maybe there were aliens from the past who worshipped the engineers and gave their dna in the urns and placed it in front of the big head. Those scarey looking suits function is to scare off unwanted visiters or even protect themselves from hostile alien life form. Obviously, there are these engineer alien and humans that exists there got to be more different aliens. Maybe, aliens that lived but no longer exist.

@JC - Yeah I was thinking along similar lines, as mentioned, the Xenomorph is basically a perfect creature. Aside from it's intelligence perhaps, even though Queens are shown to be alot more intelligent then lower caste Xeno's. But yeah, the Xeno's do seem a bit TOO perfect to have evolved naturally me thinks. . . A defense mechanism would be interesting! Also, I think the SJ's are either extinct after the events of Prometheus, or that "time dilation" I've heard about means they now exist in the distant future. As they've not come and destroyed Earth anytime soon in the Alien movies. . .

On the other hand I ever preferred to see the Alien as an advanced parasite naturally evolved. Like the rats or cockroaches of very advanced civilizations. The concept of the Alien as an weapon is fancifull, but not very clever. As I have already noted here at the forum, even our miserable civilization is quickly advancing past the stage where something like the Alien would not be a huge problem for us. Think only about a fleet of flying minidrones, weaponized, and capable of doing a thoroughly inspection of any kind of structure (like a spaceship). Poor Aliens.

The Aliens are a perfect fit for weapons, terraforming, or defense. The Jocks decide to terraform a planet, but it's already inhabited. They simply drop a few morphs on the planet, wait a few months, then go in an clean up after they are done. No need to get into a protracted war just to take over the planet, and the morphs die off when their breeding stock is gone. An analogy would be if we could bio-engineer a few Velociraptors (um, more likely Utahraptors), tweak their personalities to make them a bit more hostile, then release them in Afghanistan. I don't quite agree that our miserable civilization could handle an infestation of Acheronus Terribilus. We thought with our superior technology we would go in an kick some communist arse in Vietnam, and we got our butts handed to us by an inferior force that relied more on stealth than the latest and greatest in weaponry. Same thing happened in Iraq, where we thought the war would be quickly won by modern warfare. Both us and the Soviets have learned that the dirt-farmers in Afghanistan are more formidable than their simple lives would suggest. A quickly multiplying parasite like the Alien may not bring civilization to an end, but it would cause a lot of chaos and panic.

But how exactly could the SJ's "clean up" the Xeno's once they've reproduced god knows how many times?? As we've seen, more advanced races then them can't handle em i.e Predators. I doubt their feeding stocks would die out in months, given the amount of life a whole planet would have. I think that the SJ's wouldn't be able to handle a creature such as that, even with their higher intelligence. As evidenced by the Derelict ship being "derelict" with a dead SJ in a chair.

1) Its been sort of confirmed that there is a weapon associated with the use of the Xeno life form. What we dont know is if it's what created them or wage creature we've seen already. In my opinion they aren't smart enough to be a perfect weapon but then again smart bombs aren't really that smart either. Modern earth would easily defeat Xeno as we know it. There is probably something worse we haven't seen. 2) The creature in Alien is considerably smarter than what is demonstrated in all later movies. The actually seem to get progressively dumber as do the movies themselves. 3) We could have easily won The Vietnam war, and we did win the Iraq war. Politics and sensitivity to collateral damage complicates things.... I dont see the world playing captain sensitive through a Xeno invasion, nor politics being used to save infected humans.

You say Earthlings would easily defeat Xeno's, yet in AVP we saw that the Predator race got overrun on Earth by them thousands of years ago. . . Yeah the alien in Alien does seem really intelligent, more so than any of the rest other then the AR ones but they don't count as they were genetically created. I think that we'll see advanced creatures in this movie that we've not been hinted at yet. . .

JC, As ArchEtech beautifully put it, the only reason the USA had trouble in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan is that these were not total wars. And I think that going after the xeno´s would be total war. Again, breed stock don´t seems to be a problem to the xenos _ it seems they go hibernate when there isn´t something alive in the block. Think about that: by the current standards, the kind of marine action we saw in "Aliens" is already unthinkable. In 20 years it will be risible. Still, I agree that xenos would be a formidable weapon for total war, specially if you smart invading civilization go deploy it in an unprotected and unknowing world. For example, if xenos started to appear in droves at beaches, than in our fields, and finally in our cities, infestating not only humans but animals, I think we would really be in bad shape. The problem here is the same that the problem with nuclear, chemical and biological warfare: you can win the war but have nothing left to cheers about. So why the invading smart aliens would risk a Pirro´s victory?

I hate the idea of the alien alien lifeforms being a weapon, it takes some of the mystery out of these scary beings, suddenly they have a purpose... It makes them into something we can process, and also something faintly controllable (even if it's only in the hands of the makers), i really hope they stay mysterious, horrific and uncontrollable, and without any comprehensible purpose.

Slakkers, I do agree. After all, we don´t have a purpose ourselves, also.

Interesting points. I think that the Xenos were possibly used as bio weapons or purging agents for terroforming, however the SJs perhaps came across the xenos accidentally on the xeno home world and didnt develope them. Re Earth invasion, I dont think Man Kind would have a chance in Hell in ridding our planet of xenos if we were unfortunate enough to have them infect Earth. Imagine the millions of places and environments they could hide. The xenos would spread from country to country like a super virus. We cant even stop the Flu let alone an infiltration from another world. I believe that the SJs bit off more than they could chew, as we saw in Alien. Perhaps they thought that the xenos were controlable, and as we saw in Jurasic Park Nature, even on another world, always finds a way. regardless I still dont believe that the Derelict originally contained the eggs. I stand by the idea that the Derelict landed on too of a Silo/Structure which contained the eggs and they were harvesting them and the rest is history. What the xenos were actually doing on LV426 in the first place and who built the Silo....That remains to be seen.
