MemberOvomorph02/10/2012Great science fiction but let's hope they lose the tired "men panic and woman takes over and gets the job done" storyline. I hate movies with an agenda.

Dude, you r in the wrong forum. My favorite films have woman replacing male as the traditional savior. ALIENS & SILENCE OF THE LAMBS are 2 very popular examples. There is a reason why the screenwriter & director of ALIEN wanted Sigourney Weaver to survive in the end of the movie. If woman is the carrier of the future of our species, then she has to survive - untainted!

MemberOvomorph02/10/2012Wow @itchyz...."men panic and woman takes over and gets the job done".....I don't recall many of those stories being out there....usually...the stereotype has women panicking and the muscle bound meat head saving the day......real creative and original, that is...yeah, right......
.....And I don't know about many of you, but I can't seem to remember the men of the Nostromo flipping out, throwing there hands up in the air hysterically and running about screaming in a panicked state.....I recall Ripley being unique in her role as hero, forgive me, heroine in that kind of story.
And since when is a strong woman standing up and doing something sound, intelligent and independent an Agenda?
If a strong female survivor in storytelling really scares you that much at a fundamental level, socially and subconsciously, then maybe you should 1) move to a forum that isn't full of people in love with a story you clearly have chauvanistic issues with. 2) time travel to the stone age....they may like you there. 3) grow up.......a strong female shouldn't automatically threaten you're masculinity...or are you that insecure that you can't handle the idea?

MemberOvomorph02/11/2012Hey steady the buffs Craigamore and co! I don't think itchyz was been chauvanistic. I think recently (well not so recently - Alien set the trend in 79) it's always the woman saving the day - role reversal. Lets not think man or woman - keep gender out of it. The "woman" saving the day - which was a real curve ball in 79 is now the "default" setting. I think thats all itchyz was saying. What we need is a NEW surprise. Hopefully prometheus will provide this. I personaly don't think any of them are going to make it. Probably David and Shaw save planet Earth would be my bet.

MemberOvomorph02/11/2012What itchyz said was a bit chauvinistic but I've seen worse... I have to say I admire stand up guys like Craigmore and Engr101 who don't just let things slide or try to justify what was said to make it more palatable.

MemberOvomorph02/11/2012I think the whole thing is by far more simple than that and dont require sociological studies .
No survivors = bad ending , people dont go to see it
Too many survivors = the movie wasnt scary enough ...
One survivor = best choice but it did become a cliche ( and is not a matter of gender )
So pulling out a great ending is very rare ..
Sunshine = all die but with great rewards
Pandorum = good ending but fit very well
The Children of man = all bleak but with hopes
Moon = good ending with some sad notes
Skyline = very sad ending with very thin hopes
28 days later = feel good ending
Equilibriim = very feel good ending
Cloverfield = sad ending
Distring 9 = mixed ending
so the last tendencies are for "mixed" endings ...that leave all the audiences with something to be happy

MemberOvomorph02/11/2012Thanks @Biomechanic and @eahaddix...........And @eahaddix, thank you for elaborating on what I should have said my self. Ultmiately you intimated what I was getting at, but with me it came out more direct and pointed......I really dislike this kind of sillyness.....

MemberOvomorph02/12/2012In my view, everybody in 'Alien' -Dallas, Parker, etc. - were heroes. It was just that only one hero (or heroine in this case) survived. Dallas and Parker died standing up to the creature.
