AdminEngineerMar-05-2012 11:26 PMReading this article from a writer over on MTV where he describes a dream he had about Prometheus... yes... a dream. Let's be honest, most of us have probably had one or two since the trailer's release.
But anyways, he makes a comment that got me thinking:
"...In fact, we didn’t even see Space Jockeys. But what we did find was a mysterious machine of utmost mystery and machineriness. It was massive, and was clearly Space Jockey tech. We did the only thing we possibly could do: we turned it on.
We quickly realized this was no mere machine, but a repository of all of the DNA of every creature that the Space Jockeys had ever come into contact with -- an Ark if you will, almost like that underground seed bank they have in Norway..."
What if the Derelict space craft is a metaphor for the Bible's Noah's Ark?! It could explain the theories behind DNA storage and bio-engineering. The Jockeys could have been travelling from planet to planet saving entire species, or containing their DNA in storage compartments (URNS) to preserve the species.
In the Christian Bible, Noah's Ark was divided into sections to accommodate for two of every animal on Earth so that they may reproduce once the "FLOOD" had passed.
Now, that all being said we can come at this theory from so many ways. But I think this might be a focal point in our speculation about the purpose behind the Engineer race and why there's an ampule room of a human face. There could be many ampule rooms, with statues of different species! MAYBE even a chamber of Eggs and a statue of a Xenomorph Head...
But I think one aspect of this metaphor which has not been hypothesized yet it - What could the FLOOD be a metaphor for? Could the Jockeys be trying to save other races from an impending doom?
What are your thoughts?

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 12:19 AMthis is the best thought about what Prometheus may be about! Very cool concept! now can all four of us on this talk get a t shirt!? Totally kidding really this is something very dynamic I love this!

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 12:51 AMI really like this idea. Kind of makes the imagination run wild thinking about all of the possible scenarios that could arise and just how epic the story of the jockeys could be. Well played.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 2:21 AMI like this idea a lot. I keep feeling the Jockeys are not bad but we do piss them off as usual being stupid humans lol then we see their other side.

So, anyone want to invest in my time machine idea??? :-P

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 3:31 AMVery interesting theory! And allow me to speculate some more.
I also presented the multiple-chamber theory some time ago:
http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/483
I have to say I no longer believe in this. I find it much more likely that there’s only one chamber and that the statue reproduces the face of the entity that engineered all the several species inside the ampoules. But yeah, this set of engineered species could have been reduced to the form of parasites, able to survive for millions of years, adapted to reproduce whenever they find a host species with a biology similar enough to the one of its creator. In this sense this could be a “creepy” noah’s ark.
Ok, here’s a long shot: let’s say that the temple is actually located inside a derelict-ship, which will be activated by the presence of humans (the sandstorm in the trailer might be triggered by the ship reactivating). Let’s say that ampoules represent the “mechanical” part of an egg. The “bio” part could be added by the engineer sitting on the derelict chair, which acts as a biomechanical interface with the ship. Let’s say that the engineer comes back from stasis when the ship is activated. Let’s say that the whole purpose of bringing humans to the scene is to find convenient hosts to the bioengineering experiments done by the engineer. The resulting myriad of species would all contain the engineer’s DNA, therefore for him this would mean the ultimate reproduction process. This would indeed be a “creepy” noah’s ark.
Obviously: just speculation.

well, in this dream picture this is the key. WE turn it on, so this falls in OUR own responsibility, for mankind..WE are given the key to the future by accident.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 5:19 AMCypher, I understand your comment - what I wrote incorporates many bits and pieces that have been suggested by many others, so I’m sure the whole might seem quite familiar, although – I hope – not redundant. As for the multiple-chamber stuff, I’m pretty sure I was the first to write about it, but honestly that’s not my focus: I’m just trying to add up to my own speculative but hopefully consistent view with significant elements of the original post, which I found quite interesting.

MemberOvomorphMar-06-2012 6:37 AMThis film will be full of metaphors by the looks of it but that will make it all the more believeable as a fiction and make it very clever....
Even if the derelict is an ark the intention is to preserve life but also to manipulate biology... And the worlds the organisms are not necessarily dying worlds are they?
Perhaps we were taken from a dying world and planted on earth and our evolution helped along by the SJ's or they mixed some DNA up with a species of monkey perhaps?
This Ship most certainly crashes down though we see it explode so that means the ark got sunk somewhat...
I still think the purpose behind the collection of lots of specimens is to create the ultimate life form and for the SJ's to mix there own DNA with this life form... I think this is what perhaps goes wrong and the creation of the xenomorph is a corrupted version of that lifeform. Tampered with if you like by somone like David (David vs goliath) he must catapult or shoot somthing at one of the big guys which brings em down

Lots of cross-religious metaphors will be in the movie.
Think about the writing team and the end of the TV series "LOST".
