MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 8:10 PMNot sure if this has already been speculated on, but I have notice that, early in the recently released sneak peek of the full trailer, at one point the "camera" is looking up (from the ground presumably) at a rover and there is a planet in very close proximity to the host planet.... it resembles Saturn... appears very large and has rings. Perhaps the planet they have traveled to is actually not so far away.... perhaps it's a moon moon belonging to one our solar systems larger planets. Saturn does actually have a satellite named Prometheus, though I'm sure it has nothing to do with the host planet... it looks more like an asteroid. It could perhaps be Titan... Titan has been speculated to possibly have the capacity to sustain life.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 8:16 PMDon't see it being set in our solar system plus if you remember in alien there was a big planet that resembled Saturn with rings around it, and it's rumoured to be set in the zeta II reticuli system as in alien

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 8:22 PMYeah. I just got done double checking one of my copies of Alien to make sure that the large planet near LV-426 had rings or not. Maybe Prometheus will take place on the planet from the first movie. Scott has said in the interviews for the quadrilogy and the in the commentary as well that if he would like to go back to LV-426 and the derelict ship.

"Acheron (LV-426) is the second of three natural satellites that orbit Calpamos, which is the fifth planet from the star Zeta 2 Reticuli."
also, somewhat unrelated but why is LV-426 brown in alien and blue in aliens? at first i assumed that this was just a change made by James Cameron to make it what he wants, kind of like David fincher painted the sulaco brown in alien 3, but i had a new theory that the atmosphere is a different color now because of the atmospheric processing. any thoughts?

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 8:46 PMThanks for reminding of that detail from the original film. I haven't seen in it in so long that I'd forgotten. Well, I do think this pretty much confirms that the host planet in this film is LV-426... at least for me.
As for discrepancies between films I think sometimes directors, sometimes wish they'd done some things differently. I suspect Ridley will take advantage of this opportunity to make some improvements to the original... which we may see as discrepancies. I mean the technical innovations alone since 1979 will cause the film to look a bit disconnected from the original.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 8:58 PMThat's what I always figured invaderzim42....blue due to processing, although I wonder why it's that blue, seems to bright to me.

I assume they are all lying about it not being LV-426. Unless it is on one of the other moons. Which technically isn't LV-426 but a different moon orbiting the same Planet.

MemberOvomorphMar-14-2012 11:00 PMThat's exactly what I'm thinking Shane. One of the other moons seems a logical possibility.

ZetaReticuli
MemberOvomorphMar-15-2012 4:34 AMmogy79, one of the (supposedly) habitable moons in our system
could indeed be a plausible 'jumping off' point (International Interstellar
Gateway?) to the planet of the film. Perhaps they find the co-ordinates
there and move on? I like the idea of station in close proximity to Earth
as a 'final prep' stage before plunging into the unknown - very chilling.
