AdminEngineerMar-18-2012 9:29 PMSo, as you can see, we're finally back online. I'm sure many of you (including myself) nearly lost your lid with the new trailer coming out and all the new info that we unfortunately weren't first in line to deliver this weekend.
I figure this all deserves an explanation as so many of you have been great, loyal members for a long while now. So, here is the story:
At the time, this site was hosted on a shared hosting service - meaning we share servers with other accounts, sites, etc.. and we are given a limit of traffic we can receive. A rather high limit mind you and I never thought in my right mind we would ever exceed it.
I was wrong. At 8:04am Saturday morning I recieved an email from my hosting providers saying that my account (Prometheus-Movie.com) was soaking up 77% of the available CPU usage for my shared hosting server.. and was causing problems with other accounts and essentially overloaded our server. This happened after we were lucky enough to get that early scoop on the IMAX Prometheus trailer.
The sudden influx of members to the site caused us to go over out limits and thus my account for the site was put on hold until I could find a way to upgrade.
So, instead of being cheap and going with the next level up I decided to fork out a lot more money and got Prometheus-Movie.com hosted on its own private server with unlimited traffic, bandwidth, etc... and hundreds of GB of storage and memory.
The site is now on a much stronger server - not shared anymore and we should hopefully not experience anymore downtimes like the one we did this weekend.
I would like to formally apologize to all of our members and visitors as this was not an issue I saw coming. At the same time I'm glad to see the site was able to generate so much traffic, but it was not fair to you all who visit here everyday.
We dropped the ball on one of the most important nights of this site's life. We will bounce back, we will remain the #1 Prometheus fan site thanks to all of you, but I want to personally say I am sorry for the site being down.
A very special thank you to all of you who stuck with us and were patient and who got back online ASAP. We thank you, I thank you, for you continued support.
Thank you,
Chris (BugHunter)

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 11:15 AMI was afraid someone had gotten a little too close to the truth and Fox had its stormtroopers shut you down. ;)
But, seriously having too much site traffic is definitely a good problem to have and if you guys started floating a few ads I would totally be in favor of that to cover hosting costs.
Just glad you're back so I can stop slumming on other sites.

AdminEngineerMar-19-2012 2:48 PMGlad to have you all back. I've been on the phone with my hosting company all day working with them to further optimize the site and work out any bugs. All our efforts should take effect within 2-3 hours and you all should be able to experience the site in glorious high speed.
But thanks for the support everyone, I was losing my mind when the site overloaded right before the full length trailers hit the fan.
Thanks for understanding!

You may be spammed. Can you trace an unusually large amount of incoming from a single region in a short period of time maybe?

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 5:17 PMThe outage made me realise how ordinary a lot of the other sites are...(no offence intended to the other sites).
Good to see you bak up....I was thinking the same that takka suggested (Fox may have stepped in to conduct ....rumour control...these are the facts.

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 6:48 PMBrother I am thrilled to see everything back! One small suggestion to help with your bandwidth... Change the background! It is a massive image that takes a good bit to load, and every single person visiting the forum has to load it. If you converted it to a compressed jpg/png/tiff file (under 500kb) it would help out massively!
Seriously love this site. Sorry to hear your shared hosting died on you!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 11:29 AMI appreciate how hard you worked to get us back online. I've grown quite attached to this place.
I'm still having problems though, and typically have to refresh or back up 3-5 times each time I navigate pages. Is there some kind of re-direct in place?

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 5:49 AMJust had a chance to check back since the site went down before the recent trailers.
Talk about unfortunate timing for that!
While I waded through the various comments on other sites at the time, I missed seeing what the response would be here at the time. But lots of juicy new threads over the last few days for for me to catch up with now I see. :)

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 9:43 AMHey BH!
Apparently this weekend was a good time for my TN vacation cabin's wifi to go down too!
Sorry to hear about the problem, (but it's a great problem to have!)
I drove like a maniac to get back Tuesday night and watched the trailer before I even began unpacking! A big "Thanks" to you and your staff for all the hard work!
The site is better than ever!
