Hard vs. Soft eggs

Really could use some clarification...The egg room that i am oh so familiar with inside the Geiger inspired set of the original ALIEN film had rounder more (for lack of a better term) chicken-like eggs, covered by a thin film of fog. However in the trailer i noticed it with no fog and less organic more man-made. The eggs (if that IS what they are) seem to be thinner in width and smaller in height. Any explanations? I'm thinking its the reason behind the thinner "octopus" version of facehugger we see in the trailer.

Those arent eggs they are technological storage cylinders.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Yeah, probably not eggs. I do think that the thing David pulls out of that canister kinda looks like a deflated egg with the four petals stretched out.

They are metallic and there is writing etched into the sides.

could it perhaps be a canister for holding/ transporting the chest bursters . like a cryogenic sleep chamber? like to prevent them from growing into a full xenomorph right away

They're not really 'natural' in appearance. Not as organic looking as the eggs in ALIEN. I saw somwhere, but can't remember where exactly that they were referred to as 'ampules', not eggs. That would imply that they are not natural.

Possible but it more likely contains parasites of the engineer race. All of this is speculation, but the lifeforms David is marveling at do not look like chestbursters or facehuggers and they are on top of the cylinders.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

I think there might be 2 connections behind the "cylinders". 1) The Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Schusset original draft of Alien, the eggs were actually cylinders or "jars" that the Nostromo crew found in a pyramid (not a ship). The trailer shows them entering a pyramid and we can assume that is where they find the jar room. 2) In the Prometheus legend Zeus angry at Prometheus for his creation of man sent Pandora to earth to marry Prometheus's brother (Epimetheus) she had with her the "box" containing man's destruction. Of course Pandora was a trap as he knew because of her deliberate installed guile, she wouldn't be able to resist opening the box of evil she was sent with. The "box" was in fact a jar. And from what I see the in the trailers the opening of the jar clearly contains the element to wipe out mankind. At least that was my take on this.

They are "Urns"...Each urn contains the DNA of a life form, created by the Space jockeys or Engineers. My theory is: 1. The humans desecrated the Space Jockeys temple, by removing some of the urns back to their ship for analysis, which pissed off the Space Jockeys (Engineers/Creators)..therefore, all hell breaks loose, where the Space Jockeys get revenge for the humans stealing the DNA of created life forms within their holy temple of Urns. REMEMBER : The movie is called "Prometheus", which has some similarities to the actual Greek myth of the Titan Prometheus, who fooled the gods, and stole Zeus' "Fire", to give to all humanity, without permission...Which pissed off Zeus, and Zeus punished Prometheus by having him tortured by an Eagle eating his liver forever. Same with the premise of this movie...The humans stole the DNA back to the ship for analysis, and most likley to take back to Earth for Weyland/Yutani Industries. 2. What i am very curious about is why at the beginning of the full trialer, they the Space Jockey alien standing by the waterfalls, is looking at his hand and arm being affected by a black veins...The character Holloway has the same veins growing on his neck and face as we can see in the trailer....which obviously means he is DNA is changing into a mysterious alien....Is it possible that the Space Jockeys are Infected by some unknown alien infection before the humans arrive and get it ? Remember Ridley Scott stated that we will not see the Alien of the past...only strands of DNA will be similar, but the new alien creature in Prometheus will be either a form of what is to come, or its a totally diffeent alien creature that we will be terrorized by.

@arcaneradio: I think you have hit the nail on the head. (This is something I was meaning to post the other day but forgot) "In Greek mythology, Pandora... was the first woman.[2] As Hesiod related it, each god helped create her by giving her unique gifts. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to mold her out of earth as part of the punishment of mankind for Prometheus' theft of the secret of fire, and all the gods joined in offering her "seductive gifts". Her other name, inscribed against her figure on a white-ground kylix in the British Museum,[3] is Anesidora, "she who sends up gifts,"[4] up implying "from below" within the earth. According to the myth, Pandora opened a jar (pithos), in modern accounts sometimes mistranslated as "Pandora's box" (see below), releasing all the evils of mankind — although the particular evils, aside from plagues and diseases, are not specified in detail by Hesiod — leaving only Hope inside once she had closed it again.[5] She opened the jar out of simple curiosity and not as a malicious act. @dtrisml I concur. I believe Weyland's obsession with the planet is believes he will obtain immortality. It was obvious from his TED speech he considers himself godlike. I really can't wait for this movie.
