Slowed down Trailer[/url]
According to the Weyland Industries timeline the Prometheus project started about 2073 which puts Weylands age at about 90 or even 100 (TED talk was back in 2023).
At 8:53 you can see at the left a guy that seems quite old. This i see in the way he holds his arms, as if he would expect to fall down any second. Also, though not quite that clear, his face suggests an old guy. At 8:54 a guy appearing to the old mans right looks like he's trying to support the man, as if he was not that good on his feet and could collapse any second.
Then there are the to guys at the front and behind the old man. Since Weyland is quite the VIP i could imagine he would have some bodyguards looking out for him on this dangerous mission. I'm not a specialist in this kind of matter, but i would possition my bodyguards like that. The front two start shooting at something in order to protect the old man, which sort of implies his importance.
What do you think?

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 8:39 AMI'm wondering why they would bring an old man into combat, unless they're fighting their way to an objective which he is a crucial part of. Wouldn't surprise me if they're shooting at the Prometheus' crew as much as anything not human..

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 8:44 AMDon't think he's crucial to the objective, but rather that the objective is crucial to him.
I guess that Weyland like every megalomaniac CEO has that sort of God/King complex and wants to live forever. The promise of an alien technology with all its bio-mechanical advancements could provide him with the possibility to become immortal.
P.S. Don't think they knew he was on board...

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 9:40 AMI'm not sure that Weyland would come with them. If he's even still alive...
Vickers is there to "hurry the process" of collection, should that be the objective.
If anything, the corporation wants any, and all, technologies that could give them a greater advantage to "stay ahead of the game". Look at what happens 30 years after Prometheus. The company will stop at nothing, but the heirarchy would never put themselves in harms way, to get to the objective. "Expendable" people are made for that.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 9:53 AMWell in the case of Weyland, we are talking about a man who built a huge empire (King) and by getting older is faced with death, which, beeing the driven man he is, he can't accept.
Vickers is there to make sure the crew members and the scientists stay in line. As soon as they found what they were looking for, Weyland would enter the scene. He needs to be there simply because he doesn't have that much time left.
As a result of him stealing the technology of the engineers, he has to be punished (King dies). Which leads us to the legend of Prometheus. He stole fire (technology) from the gods and had to be punished.
The xenos might be merely there to protect the godlike technology.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:05 AMI think there is no way weyland is the king ..is not a story about company plots and subplots ... all the weyland affair can be a sideplot at the best.
the trailer spoke alot about the overall tone of the movie .
Said that i expect peter weyland to be aboard the prometheus ...and i will not surprised if he play a key role in the movie ( guy pearce name is just after the 3 main characters after all )

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:12 AMI must agree with Frantz. Weyland will have little screentime. But similar to Alien vs. Predator he finances the expedition and his curiosity/fear of death will have him join the party. The side theme would be that "King dies" stuff which could refer to Weyland.
A board of directors wouldn't go; obviously. But in Weylands case, it's about his company, his baby... He can't leave such matters in the hands of mere mortals... but they will be good canon fodder and do the dirty work.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:12 AMThe humans kill off the last of the Jockeys, thus their rule ends all because of the pesky humans. The jockey's experiments kill them, after playing god for so long, their own creations killed them....they could not contain their own power. Their Pride destroyed them.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:17 AMand to add to your comment KIk, he is seeking immortality to remain alive...this could be his chance to get it...

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:21 AMI agree with Kikuchiro. The "King" will be jockies, weyland, and mankind. No subplots? really? I think it will be full of them.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 10:54 AMIn the slowed down trailer (which is awesome btw) the scene Kikuchiro is on about when the two guys are opening up at what ever is out of shot to the right- 8:50, if you look at the group of people behind, one of them seems to have a cane or walking stick.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 11:44 AMyou want a better shot, go to the TV SPOT Prometheus 1 plus minute trailer. There is a subsequent shot of the same scene, different angle, guys with guns,.......is that Guy Pearce to the left.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 1:01 PMAt some point, the king will always die, what matters is what comes after. I think that is the whole point, what they are trying to say. You have the intelligence, the Engineers/Space Jockeys, even humans, al smart and intelligent, but move over, your time is over, here come the Xeno's!

xxpabloxx
MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 1:17 PMi think the king is an exiled s/j who landed on earth years ago with the tech to create the human race, lives like a king then dies after telling the humans not to go near a certain star system.
weyland is on the ship and he steals the `fire` from the gods so a space jockey heads off to destroy the pesky humans lol but his ship goes boom.
has anyone else noticed the tiny alien in the guys eye in the trailer??? im certain fassbenders charachter has one on the tip of his finger too when he says ` big things start with little beginnings`,its this discovery that sends the crew from `alien` back to the planet years later to try to get a specimen of one as a bio-weapon. it all ties in very well.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 1:33 PMAfter reviewing two pictures from the trailers, I am convinced of two things. There is one scene in the trailer, where guys in blue suits have their guns drawn with a man that has a cane and looking older, I believe this to be Weyland, from another scene we see the explosion of the alien ship and the Prometheus and some type of ship still on the ground, I believe it is in fact another ship, one that followed the Prometheus and the one with Weyland on board. I think he stayed out of harms way until they got there and came out with his own private army.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 6:38 PMI thought Weyland was sitting in the scene where Shaw stumbles into the white room and is on the floor.
