MemberOvomorphMarch 22, 20122178 Views34 RepliesI asked a question that was obvious now something that had/has been discussed into infinity. So, I am just clarifying, I have watched the trailer, and this was my first post, so I haven't had time to know that it was a topic talked to death. Just wanted to know everyones thought on the AAT.

Most of the discussions on here are concerning this and you will find many, many theories and threads if you search through the forums. I'd post a link, but there's too many to post. Just look through and you'll find plenty.

I also think death plays a big part in this. The Weyland website seems to be focused on longevity and may very well be one of the inspirations for project Prometheus and it's travels. The search for immortality.

DropyourlinenMarch 22, 2012
I think it;s pretty obvious from the trailer and months of speculation that the plot will certainly involve aliens visiting earth in the past. Watch the trailer, man!

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
Pretty sure AVP anything isn't canon. Love both franchises and original AVP comic, but those movies were soooooooooooo lame.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

DropyourlinenMarch 22, 2012
I'm 99% sure Ridley won't have paid any heed whatsoever to anything related to AVP. Possibly even Aliens - remember that he doesn't even like the queen idea and in Alien - Director's cut presented any entirely different way of xenomorph reproduction

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
Already has Aliens material in timeline. AVP won't be allowed in bc it ruined the franchise. Yeah, they tried to bond it to Alien by using Weyland and failed. Thus there is a new founding Weyland in Prometheus. Rewriting that lame spinoff.

GavinMarch 22, 2012
Again I say... WEYLAND INDUSTRIES
Also if your suggesting Aliens is also not cannon I point to two things mentioned on the website WEYLAND INDUSTRIES.com...
1. Building Better Worlds - First appeared in Aliens
2. Powerloader - Er, let's see, oh yeah... first appeared in Aliens

EGR101March 22, 2012
I think the opening monologue by Vickers would imply that the movie will go beyond the Ancient Astronaut's Theory into a story about man's unbounded ambition & the hubris of immortality. The "king" mentioned may refer to Weyland desiring to prolong his life using alien technology OR an alien "king" who needs warm bodies to rule the Earth once again. The second idea I find more chilling than yet another story about crazy rich dude with unlimited funds doing crazy shit (Richard Branson, Steve Jobs)

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
How do you explain the fact that Peter Weyland is the founder now? I can, they dropped those ideas. Agree on Aliens.

GavinMarch 22, 2012
FACEPALM...
WEYLAND INDUSTRIES - First appeared and only appeared in AVP, its founder and CEO = Charles Bishop Weyland.
Weyland Corp - First unveiled at the 2023 TED Conference by its founder and CEO = Peter Weyland.

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
ADDITIONAL FACEPALM...
I can't argue with that. Though, I still know it won't be included. I mean....xenos running around in Colorado. Pure crap. I think Ridley would laugh at this possiblity.

Ancient Aliens, you say? I am completely unfamiliar with this concept. This board has been too preoccupied with how Michael Fassbender smells to pick up on that. Maybe you can explain to us this "Ancient Aliens" idea of yours. I'm intrigued.

GavinMarch 22, 2012
Okay here's my stance on the AVP movies...
1. The story arc is complete, with the exception of the Queen at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean.
2. Good premises, bad execution through bad directors and greedy producers.
3. Watch with your brain turned fully on and follow the beats of the narrative (ignoring the atrocious acting and such) and then you realise the original premises still remain and are good (also you should do this with the matrix and you'll discover something hidden).
...either way, Weyland Industries was in and only in AVP, its mention through the viral marketing states that the events, the beats of the AVP's is in fact canon according to prometheus (just ignore the end results).

GavinMarch 22, 2012
@ Takka - unless your trolling search for it on youtube and watch a few episodes!

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
Can't find anything on the Weyland Site. Will keep looking.

Sir Ridley Scott is a creative , intelligent , imaginative Director, who i would imagine does not give a flying F@*K about the AVP movies and rightly so:)

GavinMarch 22, 2012
You do forget that Dan O'Bannon was involved with the first AVP, and if wasn't for the late, great Dan none of us would be here!

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
Dan O'Bannon died?????? OMG, i'M SHOCKED. That makes me really sad....
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

GavinMarch 22, 2012
Yes, he suffered most of his life with Crohn's disease. I have a friend with the same condition.

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
RIP Dan O'Bannon. Thank you for giving me the best nightmares.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

System9March 22, 2012
I have complete respect for Mr Dan O'Bannon, but come on people, why do you feel the need to defend these AVP Movies? I am a gradute of Animation and i am Studying Illustration right now, i would not have got into what i do without movies like Alien, Aliens, Predator and so forth, i completely love these movies, But AVP and AVP2 are a slap in the face of the work done by Sir Ridley Scott And James Cameron!
TKfanboy421March 22, 2012
only legitimacy is alien and aliens (minus the queen crap) and now prometheus. alien3=sucks, alien resurrection=plot was good but needed a Damon Lindelof to fix it-it got cheesy, predator=cool, predator 2=lame. predators=sucks, avp=absolutely flat out sucks-(except for some of the ancient temple part)

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
I thought Predators was great. Kinda suprised me. Coulda used more Predators, though. Alice Braga brought it as the sniper.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

GavinMarch 22, 2012
Dan O'Bannon was co-writer with Paul W S Anderson on AVP!
I'm a graduate of Media Studies but that matters for nothing. The end results of what became AVP and AVPR are terrible, I am not disputing that! But underneath the bad acting, bad directing, and producer interference the narrative, the beats strengthen the collective franchise.
TKfanboy421March 22, 2012
i mean face it, or face-hugger it! lol, AVP was a money grab by the studio to give people what they desired, more alien, but i can't project how sh***y the AVP films are, just plain garbage!

System9March 22, 2012
Some good points being expressed here, @Tkfanboy421(Face-Hugger it, Haha:), But lets get back to why we are really here, PROMETHEUS, and let me tell you all i have never been so excited about a movie in a long long time, after AVP promised so much and delivered so little, i think Sir Ridley is gonna knock it out of the park with this one!

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
I wish I could "like" comments on here. you'd get one, system9.

Correction. If you look at the computers in Alien, you will see the name Weylan on them and in some of the readouts. That's the original spelling of the name.
The name "Weylan-Yutani"was created by Ron Cobb, one of the designers of the Nostromo and its crew's uniforms.
“ One of the things I enjoyed most about Alien was its subtle satirical content. Science fiction films offer golden opportunities to throw in little scraps of information that suggest enormous changes in the world. There's a certain potency in those kinds of remarks. Weylan Yutani for instance is almost a joke, but not quite. I wanted to imply that poor old England is back on its feet and has united with the Japanese, who have taken over the building of spaceships the same way they have now with cars and supertankers. In coming up with a strange company name I thought of British Leyland and Toyota, but we couldn't use "Leyland-Toyota" in the film. Changing one letter gave me "Weylan," and "Yutani" was a Japanese neighbor of mine. ”
—Ron Cobb, "The Authorized Portfolio of Crew Insignias from The United States Commercial Spaceship Nostromo Designs and Realizations" by John Mollo and Ron Cobb
The original spelling of the Company's name was Weylan Yutani (note that there was no D in the name). At no time in Alien nor in the portfolio was the name of the Company spelled with a D. This was changed to "Weyland-Yutani" in Aliens.
