(RTTNews) - "Prometheus," June 8th (Fox):
Those who have only seen Ridley Scott films like "American Gangster," "Gladiator" and "Robin Hood" may have a hard time believing that he once redefined the sci-fi genre.
Returning to familiar territory, Scott's upcoming new release "Prometheus" takes us to the same universe as "Alien," the movie that put him on the map in the late 1970s.
In one of the most intense movie trailers you're likely to see, "Prometheus" shows a team of researchers determined to figure out the origin of the human species, leading them on a deadly journey into space as they look for answers.
Though this sounds an awful like a horror version of "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Prometheus" is also loaded with A-list stars, including the suddenly omnipresent Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron as well as strong character actors like Idris Elba, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace.
Scott's version of space looks stark and foreboding, and the trailer promises that this will be an adult-geared thriller not for the faint of heart.
Considering how many mindless movies have been made about aliens in the shadow of the "Alien" franchise, "Prometheus" should at least provide some hope this blockbuster season.
Box office outlook:
Tremendous fan anticipation suggests that this one should be an easy hit, though a lot will depend on whether or not it ends up with a PG-13 or R-rating.
Scott's original "Alien" and James Cameron's much-loved "Aliens" sequel were both rated R, though we'll see if Scott scaled back the intensity to find the widest possible audience.
But no matter the rating, the star power and popularity of the material should help build the hype leading up to its June release, likely leading to one of the most successful prequels this side of the "Star Wars" franchise.

MemberOvomorphMar-27-2012 8:16 AMI am hoping for a R as well, in fact, though I am sure the studio is pushing for Pg-13. Of course, I wonder if they could do..both. (PG-13 3d, R 2d)

the coming
MemberOvomorphMar-27-2012 12:36 PMnot both...just R...this film being a PG is completely outrageous
