MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 1:12 PMnot sure if this is discussed elsewhere, apologies if so, but with fassbenders character being a "david 8" model (something we are reminded of in the viral video) I could help but wonder if it was a reference to the psalm. Lo and behold I find this -
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet.
I also read that this psalm is known as the "astronomers psalm", hrm very interesting, even more if you consider shaw's stated religous views, and the connection between her and david not only as team leaders, but also what we see from the supposed dream reading that goes on with her hypersleep chamber by david.
Whatever truths we find out in this movie, and whatever we are left to speculate on, I for one am very optomistic the production will go to great lengths to capture the sense of wonder and horror with which we gazed on the originals. I for one m predicting wanting to walk right back into the cinema after an initial viewing and am planning to do such :)

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 1:23 PMThis is just a vain hope, but I for one would love to see some inspiration from the Book of Job. Maybe Shaw, the true believer, the upright human, sees everything fall to pieces around her, loses her love, her health. And God (or gods) just never really tells her why. It's just what they do.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 1:54 PMI took it as David vs Goliath....and its why I wonder if David is the last crewmember standing....as for who or what Goliath is.....unknown.
Also the description of this film as an epic leads me to believe that the story travels from Earth, to the planetary object in the trailer, to.....again, unknown. Also there is often a passage of time involved in an epic portrayal, more than simply the voyage to the planet in the trailer
I don't think Ridley has lost his ability over the years....I have no doubt he's going to blow the world away.....again.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 2:33 PMAlso one of the clues to unlock the pictures in the prometheous site, Tell Abu Shahrain, as we know is in Iraq, which is supposed to be where The Garden of Eden was. Are there any parallels with the prometheous story? What's your thoughts? To me there is a religious connection reading the other posts on this thread.
By the way this site has taken over my spare time! I love reading all the thoughts!

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 2:35 PMWas just going to bring up epic denoting passage of time.
With that and the comparisons to Lawrence of Arabia, this film is going way beyond crew being assailed by alien beings and horror.

I think he is even better, 33 more years of experience as a realisator... 33 more years of questioning about human, desire, dreams, conscience etc... I think it will be the kind of movie (or piece of art) that you will be able to re watch again and again, wondering if some things he did in the film were made in a specific way or in another. Dialogues between caracters will be epic, kind of biblic or religious in a way... Words specially selected to make us think again and again. (ok, actually this is what I hope / dream of... Alien's dialogues are already epic to me :D )
I just can't wait, and I feel very lucky to leave in France and have it on May 30th...

The Psalm you reference may be known as the astronaut's Psalm to some, but only because it speaks of a man in awe of the power of God and that same man's humility at being given a certain amount of unwarranted control over much of creation.
I won't dive into any kind of biblical debate over this, but I think you are taking it's meaning out of context. WAY out of context. As we have seen with some of the members here who speak different languages- translation is everything. The Psalm has nothing to do with anything created by man.
I have to admit though, you certainly did some "homework" for that one.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 9:03 PM@aintnozeno - Tbh im not trying to assume too much of any paticular meaning to this similarity, just thought i would offer it up as Im sure this film will have some degree of religous speculation considering its main character (that being that the role IS actually shaw's) is of a spiritual persuasion.
I for one do hail the storm of whirling debate over what information we are being fed to pour over meticulously, its certainly sparked my imagination, just like david 8.lol :D
