MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 6:24 PMIt's been a while since I've speculated, and thought about so many ideas centered on so little (trailers). Movies seldom ever get my creativity going, however, Prometheus definitely has jump started the science fiction geek within.
I normally don't talk science fiction, but I must say I enjoy the threads and discussions that have been started by many at this website. Some of the ideas that are coming from members are nothing short of breathtaking. Some ideas have been so intelligent that frankly, I'm almost jealous for not thinking of it myself. I find it more astonishing that many of us are coming to many of the same far out conclusions.
I think what most of us are yearning is for a well made, self contained, and provocative science fiction film. There really hasn't been that much great sci-fi lately, and this genre definitely needs a revival. Hollywood has literally destroyed this genre (ie made it pop sci fi). Not wanting to sound like a fan boy but look what they did with the Alien franchise.
Ultimately, I'm wondering has someone or have the majority of our ideas going to be what Prometheus will entail? Have a body of our ideas gotten the story right? This will be very interesting if we do or not. I hope when this movie is released we all reflect to see who got things right and most importantly what no one saw coming.
Keeping the thinking coming.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 6:30 PMI haven't actually read any ideas that are not completely without problems regarding what is shown on the trailers, so the movie will probably be surprising. Certainly it will be original.

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 6:32 PMGreat points, czelaya...
I can already tell, despite what the story ends up being, that most of us are going to be happy. AND the whole world NEEDS this film.
The visuals show REAL, living breathing, "organic" sets. Moving away from the CGI domination is what we've all craved. And the HUGE vision and dramatic stages are a way to convey the grandiose themes in this new storyline, as we all suppose it to be more about Universal truths and bigger ideas than just were in the original A.1---
I'm already pleased just perusing the art that this film has generated, even if I never see another moment of it. The only thing that bothers me is that I want Scott to be around FOREVER to keep making movies like these, and selfishly I think we all want that. However, knowing that he's an artist, and has stated multiple times he doesn't "care" about a "legacy", we all know he'll be jumping off "our" storyline to other genres. If we selfishly could "have" him to do "Alien Universe" and "Bladerunner Universe" movies constantly for the rest of his life, of course we'd all be ecstatic!
There's no telling what he could do...

MemberOvomorphMar-29-2012 7:11 PMWell I for one am hoping for some incredible AHA!! moment of sorts.
There has to be some complete 180 degree twist that throws you for a loop as it just seems ridiculous that someone as on the ball as R. Scott would allow all the ACTUAL details of his $150 million project to be shown in a 2 minute trailer 2 months before it premieres.
For me, there is one real let down from the long trailers and that is that they depict the title vessel being virtually destroyed in what amounts to a suicide run. Why on earth would they even show that AT ALL right now? It would seem to virtually take all the ooooomph right out of that moment ???
So it would seem to me that something completely mind bending must still take place following that... But what that is I have no idea.
