MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 1:21 AMOn Rotten Tomatoes, Prometheus is listed twice: Once for the movie itself, and another for the IMAX release. The IMAX entry has a different plot description, which I thought was interesting. As always, take with a grain of salt:
"In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers."

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 3:54 AMCould be the backstory and Vicker's hidden agenda, but I doubt it. They're not on a terra-forming trip.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 4:43 AMMaybe. First thing I thought of was Yutani. In all the official plot stuff, I've never heard direct mention of "two superpowers."

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 5:22 AMIt doesn't make any sense, the title you see on a Tomatoes film entry is the actual title of the film - never heard anything about 'Prometheus: An IMAX 3D Experience'. It's probably an entry from some rt user.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 7:28 AMYeah the two super powers bit has been around for a while now ... that's why I suggested Vickers could be with Yutani or even a 3rd party ...
iMax 3D is more for the 3D itself isn't it? ... never actually had an iMax experience ... must remedy that one day ...
He also said Terraforming was part of the original plan in one of the drafts for the movie ...
So the 2 sequels ...
"The first prequel will focus on the Space Jockey and how it and its ship came into contact with the aliens. The second prequel will "go to where [the Space Jockey] came from"
... that was back in 2010 though ...
Backtracking here trying to get to grips somehow ...

Remember they must end up merging somewhere in the timeline for the Alien movies. Also, if you go to the Weyland Industries timeline, they make mention of the Yutani corporation. Check it out....https://www.weylandindustries.com/#/timeline

After years of litigation, Weyland wins the David patent lawsuit against the Japanese start-up Yutani Corporation, effectively protecting the investments of both Weyland Industries and its shareholders.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 12:00 PMMy take is the merger between Weyland/Yutani is that it takes place after this Prometheus mission turns out to be a disaster, and financially ruins Weyland. Afterward Yutani buys a broke Weyland Corp. out.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 11:24 PMthe lawsuit almost shows that there's competition between the companies at that point. Weyland had to protect its investments, retaining the patent, and Yutani had to take their androids in a different direction.
