MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 9:16 AMHi all, sorry if this topic has been covered before but I couldn't see it if it has. I'm getting a little worried about what could be a continuity issue with Alien and Prometheus. I've seen a lot of images of the Space Jockey from Alien, and what may be the Jockey from Prometheus and there seems to be a big difference in size.
The original Jockey looks like a huge giant, but the being in the Prometheus trailers seems somewhat smaller. Very apparent when you look at the arms?
I also liked the idea of the Jockey being totally organic looking in Alien, as opposed to being a suit worn by these beings.
I could be way off the mark, jumping the gun a bit as there has been no confirmation as to whether the being in the trailers is in fact a genuine Jockey, but I hope when I watch Alien alongside Prometheus in the near future they blend together, unlike other prequels I could mention ;)

Well, hum that's a puzzle. Ithink we shouldn't refer to elements outside to the film itself and especially Alien, since Scott seems to have forsaken the idea that it's a true prequel to the first Alien film.
In the trailers the space jockey "seems" to come in two different sizes: the part in the trailer when the "gun telescope comes" out from below the blue guy, shows a "casquet" of sorts designed to hold the head far more higher than what we see of the close up of the space jockey suit.
So...

MemberDeaconApr-02-2012 10:37 AMThe Arm Length is different, the production crew hint the SJ are 9-10ft but the production crew of Alien hinted the SJ in the chair was 15ft.
The Pilot and Chair seem more fused in Alien and its hard to those guess size of him.
Looking at the new Jockey in the Seat you can see what is the Chair and the Jockey and looking at this and doing some mesurements (not going to be exact) the SJ in Alien apears to be 12ft and in Prometheus about 9ft.
But then the Chair looks a little larger in Alien about 16ft in length compared to estimated near 15ft in Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 10:44 AMIf you look closely at the picture at the top of this web site, the one with the intro about Engineers in Prometheus, you might notice that the figure is much smaller than the person the chair was designed for. There is a curved shoulder "bracket" well above the shoulder of the occupant.

MemberDeaconApr-02-2012 3:38 PMI dont think so, i think its the right size for that chair.
The only thing that is out of place is the size of the Jockeys arms compared to the Alien one.
Maybe this ship/chair/pilot is not the one from Alien, i make this conclusion mainly because of the lack of sarcophagus in the 1979 Alien.
Maybe like us the Space Jockey vary in size, Mankind can stand between 5-7ft tall Humans who are smaller or taller are considered to have growth defects.
Maybe Space Jockeys can thus stand between 7 to 12ft tall varing from SJ to SJ.
I dont buy the idea that the guy in the chair of that scene is a Human thats transformed into a Space Jockey just Smaller.
Lets assume that the Chair/Cannon is the same size as the one in Alien, well even though the Prometheus Jockey does not fill it as much as Alien Jockey, you need to look how Small Humans are compared to that Chair and by comparing i would say the Jockey in that Seat is still at least 8ft tall but i would say 9ft.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 10:50 PMI keep writing this but the SJ spaceships connect into a larger ship. I don't think the two SJ Space ships in Alien and Pro are identical. Look at their end tips of the horse shoe. The SJ ships grow change slightly, their ships and detach to go create, capture, and merge life. They re-dock to a larger ship that orbits sectors of the univers (see star map) to exchange/merge dna/life.
