Necronomicon IV
MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 7:42 PMOkay, so this is how I think the big space jockey gun/chair gizmo works:
First the jockey selects a planet from the big holographic star map and places in that little holder thingy on the floor like it shows him doing in the trailer (He's probably selecting earth here). Then the big gun rises up out of the platform and the jockey sits down in it and as he does so his space suit wraps around his body. Somehow an egg/ampule is lifted up from the room below and loaded into the gun. A hatch on the ceiling opens up and both the jockey and the chair are lifted up through it and out onto the top of the vessel. He targets the planet and the gun launches the egg/ampule to the surface for the extermination of all life on the world.
I think the only reason he is wearing the suit at this time is simply to allow him to breathe while outside the ship in the vacuum of space. Their suits are simply space suits.
I could be totally wrong though.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 7:47 PMor he gets in chair - merges with ship becoming one organism - that initiates the power of the ship to travel through space. the gun allows immediate travel - like the travel of thought. once seated he is then esconced in a living, breathing styrofoam-like matter, to protect and feed him... as are all the urns downstairs for that matter....makes 'em look like eggs

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 7:52 PMSoooo, they have the tech to build the ship in the first place, but he needs to manully aim the big effin gun? And he shoots the gun from outside the ship?
But then again, you just maybe right on the money!

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 8:06 PM@Necronomicon IV: that is an intriguing theory you've deduced
the tip of the turret does have a grid of holes there, and they do look like
they could shoot out those urns / ampules. although i'm not sure about them
containing something to kill a planet, perhaps the Engineers can both seed
and kill with whatever those ampules carry, if your theory is correct
can't wait to find out if all this speculating some of us have done on
these boards proves absurdly false - - - or if some of us were right on target
(pun intended)
can't wait for June...!

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 8:54 PMits just what he uses to fly the ship......or it could be thats his jizz gun that he seeds planets with with that black stuff thats in them pot things....or it could be like a sat dish that he sends a signal to call his mum on......i think its just to fly his ship.....but who knows?...

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 9:51 PMExcellent theory Necronomicon IV. Ive actually heard similar theories quite a few times this week.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 11:00 PMHello, first post here.
From the first time I saw that chair in Alien, I thought it was a navigator with some kind of telescope. I didn't think it would be evil though.

MemberOvomorphApr-02-2012 11:27 PMShawn, dont use words like "retard mate". Grow up. Anyhow "telescope" what, are they using technology from the early 1800's, havnt you seen the star map room? why would they need a telescope....
Nec- 1V. Dont think so re the gun. More likely an instrument to actually function the ship.
I have a hunch the SJ would simply take some of the locals from the planet, infect them with the DNA and then return them to the planet... The rest would be history.

MemberDeaconApr-03-2012 8:49 AMI guess we will get our answers in the Movie.
You have to answer these questions.
1) Why does Blue Man /Jockey need a Mask?
2) Why does the Chair Strap him into it, i.e a Harness?
When the Ship leaves onto the vacum of Space maybe this chamber/cockpit is not protected by Gravity or any kind of atmosphere. That would explain both.
So indeed maybe the Chair rises out of the Top of the Ship, or the Top fo the Ship opens up and thus leaving this room exposed to the hostile vacuum of Space.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 12:25 AMI'm thinking the SJ chair and scope thing are actually what stays bearing on the intended travel location, while the ship itself spins conducting FTL travel. Just a theory.

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 2:30 PMIn watching the scenes of the Last Engineer getting into the Big Gun Chair...it was interesting to see the navigation system activated. In real time it is quite impressive but several details were not clear and required a slow/stop motion viewing.
Follow the green light/tracer as it comes out of the left arm of the chair. It rises and starts to circle a bit then surrounds with a green glow a planet,Earth, identified by the African Continent.
This Orrery guidence system seems quite large,,for a navigation system but might be required with the type of engine used in the Juggernaut.
I suspect the Nav System in the Prometheus is quite small...but did get out crew safely to the moon.
I have no idea how the Engineer was going to launch the urns onto the Earth,,
