EXACTLY! LIKE A TERMITE MOUND! No, I did not mean it was a Xeno hive ala 1986 Aliens, but that this is something that came before it, and it became the "overlord" after conquering or eclipseing something else on this world. I believe there actually are some species of African Termites or Ants that battle each others hives...and then the "victors" in a sense enslave the other different species and basically use them as worker drones or such... Forget if is was the Termite or Ant.

It looks like a termite mound indeed! I love the homage to Alien on the displays of the Prometheus. In Alien we see something similar when Ripley sets off the self destruction. Those pillars remind me of the ones he used in Legend and Bladerunner. Not forgetting the pyramids of Tyrell Corporation, there are numerous images which Ridley seems very fond of having in his films.

Oh.. I just realized.. You can see the "Jockey" vessel though the bridge canopy in that one pic. I assumed when I first glanced at it that it was a scene from when P. is first setting up its initial landing on the planet. So then I guess everyone is still at their stations moments before the "suicide run" and then jump into their emergency ejection capsules?.

Just look at the thing wiggling, Man it is soooooo damn exciting to me to find out what that actually is and if it is as I suspect the beginnings of the original Xenomorph Life Form Dallas et al met their fate with.

This is a fantastic rampup to the movie...obviously they'll open a new "sphere" each week until the release date, which is of course on a thursday midnite (to correllate with today being thursday)... GREAT and exciting stuff...

Wow an intergalactic advent calender for alien freaks it doesn't get better than that.

Well, however this movie turns out, I dont think that anyone can deny that VISUALLY, it is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! ( Guess its obvious what $150 mill. buys! ) If if turns out to be a GREAT movie, I can see it getting an Academy Award nod for Art Direction at the very least.

The shot with the Ampules (Pods) ... looks more like a proper Armoury now :) ... that's a nice 'clean' shot of that scene ... loads of detail ... so that is the HIVE shot then? ...

In the new ampule picture it looks like some ampules are stacked and loaded in the wall chutes. We've seen these wall structures all over over the place. I think these mounds are some kind of factory, warehouse and loading dock for the ships. Maybe ampules are created in one area, stacked and stored in another and then loaded onto the ship all via these chutes.

I'm wondering if the derelicts are some kind of Ark. The ampules could be storing the genetic materials, personalities, history of the SJs maybe? Maybe humans are like the canaries in the mine? When we have advanced sufficiently to reach the SJs on the progenitor world, they know that Earth is ready to "harvest" and colonize?

@Phil ... Yeah but I meant those Ampules are the 'Larvae' of somekind, in the hive layout ... that Ampule shot is not necessarily in the ship ;) ... Sh!t ... what if some species can fly :) ...

I see a possibility that the ampules are the post-human/post-alien storage of a race. No need to have physical bodies--until there is a need. A "plague" armory/security prison, however, seems most likely.

Yeah it would make sense to rapid grow whatever species you want at the time ... saves on space :) ...

I suppose the SJ's could have some sort of 'SUPER 8 Alien' magnet technology to hold all of those Ampules together? ...

I already had formed that opinion.. I think when we see the motion of the "Derelict" (just gonna refer to it as that.. Not that I think its[b] THE[/b] Derelict"... its gonna be like nothing we have ever seen before. Just it the way it drops straight back down to the planet and stands straight up on "crashing" made me think it generates its own very powerful gravitional force of somekind. I think the reason we see it essentially drop straight out of the air with seemingly no damage while the Prometheus is in 1 million 1 inch pieces of flaming shards is that all the Prometheus succeeds in doing with its suicide run is just momentarily disrupt the Derelicts gravitational field.

Sorry, my comment above was referring to some form of magnetic force in replying to GEM.

If those curved walls are originally of FULL of eggs (right up to the ceiling)... then the 1979 Derelict has used up 95% of its egg load. I feel sorry for the '79 SJ now, we was obviously just a few thousand eggs away from finishing his shift and shuffling home to the wife and kids when he got that whole in his chest.

hi there, I suppose you all want to ear my theory. no? well here it is: the "gods" (blue guys?) hive some species in these temples (different species in each temple). The derelicts (one derelict parked under each temple) are used to transport these to some planets choosen (randomly with terraforming, or planets that can sustain these specific species). Why? because they're gods and they love to build new worlds. The prometheus crew come to lv426 and they come accross the human temple (they steal human ampoules), and also to the xenomorph temple. They may screw things up by mistake like activating the colonization of earth with xenomorphs. They understand their mistake and crash the derelict full of xenomorph eggs that starts its journey to earth. The blue guy we see on the derelict is maybe entering the cockpit in the trailer to send the warning message(not to humans only, to anyone) because he knows the lv426 will be dangerous now, with all that deadly cargo of xenomorph eggs. That might be not him we see in alien. In alien we see the giant corpse of the pilot of the derelict that the prometheus crashed (full of eggs). That giant pilot might have been infected after the crash. mmh I don't (anything:) who he is and what is his role in the story...

This is not the derelict ship we see in Alien. It's similar, but the star chamber is different.

Literally EVERTHING is different about the "turntables"... most importantly the SCALE of the dead "jockey". Its HUGE in Alien... much, MUCH larger than in Prometheus. Plus you cannot see the 2 "exhaust pipe" like tubes at the lower front of the chair as you in Alien above. The lower chair elements are partially concealled by the "turntable"'s floor in Prometheus. But these can be attributed to nothing more than asthetic and "practical" choices for the new movie.

I agree, well said, we may all be complicating things.

Further on that last point, here is some trivia for you all... Due to practicallity issues (everything was BUILT back then folks.. NO CGI!).. in order to give the Derelict scenes the SCALE Ridley wanted, they actually used CHILD actors in suits in place of full size adults to achive the overall look they wanted in that scene.

yep, they were 2 of his 3 kids...the ones named Jake & Luke...nice sweet bit of trivia there.
