It would be great for fans at 3hrs, but for the general public anything more than 2:30 might be pushing it.

DutchApril 06, 2012
2:30 is probaly ideal for the theater owners although Gladiator was longer and it went by without dragging, at least for me. The longer the better.

CyberGladApril 06, 2012
Yeah it would be great for a >2h30 runtime but it would have to able not to drag along i agree, it is hard to pull that 3hr runtime off, only a few films have succeeded, but i think Ridley might aiming for a 2hr-2hr30 but there is a lot to answer in that time, so im hoping 2hr30 :) would be an epic film if it can answer the questions without rushing and depends on their budget.

shardyApril 06, 2012
if this film is an bold and undeniably awesome as it seems to be,
i think for it to run any less than 2:30+ mins would be a shame
time will tell...

spacyfreakApril 06, 2012
The longer the better - hell!
If film runs 90 Minutes i would find myself forced to send some FACEHUGGERz to the producers! damn.. hahahaha

if its 3 hours i need to remember to use the bathroom before i get in the theater!
i had to go in the middle of terminator2 but it was so good i couldnt leave, had to hold it and i was being an idiot and continuing to drink my soda.....
that had to be the longest bathroom break i have ever had when the movie finally ended.

One of the things I am really hoping for is that the film feels like an extension of the first 30 mins from Alien. If it is Epic as Ridley himself has proclaimed then 3hrs of that would allow us all to fully engage in the escapism of a "proper" sci-fi and not just a 2hr action film.

ZetaReticuliApril 06, 2012
3 hours + with an 'intermission' - anybody remember them?
Problem solved. I agree with shardy, the alleged scope, intensity
and possible complex plot/characters/script demands a long film.
RS did say 'epic' after all and anything under 3 hours is not epic in
my view. I'll walk outta there with shitty pants as long as I'm happy,
who cares, lol.

belladonnaApril 06, 2012
LOL @ zeta.
if we peed n soiled ourselves in the same theater i bet there would be some ushers who would be looking for a new job after that mess.

I hope it's about three hours. I was thinking about this the other day. Scott's films Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven are pretty long, so why not this one too? Nice profile pic CyberGlad.

Well, like it or not, its the corporations that actively discourage long movies. They hate 3 hour runtimes. It means they have less showtimes they can squeeze in on any given day.
I would LUV a 3hr Prometheus... There is certainly enough ground to cover in it, but I dont think it will happen.
Im gonna say 2 hrs 22 minutes tops.

belladonnaApril 06, 2012
agreed Zeta! it would be great if they played that old cartoon "lets all go to the looooby!"

I am gonna say 125 mins.
I don't expect anything too long but I am hoping for 150 mins and an R rating, we have to remember that the studio is going to want the maximize profits, and in the end, Ridley will care about that too.
Either way, I am betting the Blu-Ray release will have some extra scenes in it...Scott's movies always have some extra footage thrown back in on the DVD. KoH is a great example of this, and made the movie MUCH better.
So I am hoping that as much of Ridley's vision is kept in the theatrical version!

KronikApril 06, 2012
Before there was even talk of a sequel to Prometheus, didn't Mr Scott mention that he wanted to make two movies... maybe he has? Perhaps he's merged two story lines into a single epic movie - I can't imagine two+ hours of crew members rummaging around temples and killing stuff. There MUST be something else seriously deep and involving. Hope so.
ShaneApril 06, 2012
Someone tossed out a length of 190 minutes. I am hoping for that but well, i doubt that will happen.

KronikApril 06, 2012
The movies not out yet but I'm already looking forward to the Blu-ray release - maybe the full cut, and all those extra goodies : )

I bought the new issue of EMPIRE magazine; awesome holographic cover and great coverage of Prometheus. The cast give their perspective on the movie and Sir Ridley Scott answers all the questions you could ever ask! Definitely worth the cash:
