MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 6:05 PMSo there was a great post here that showed it was possible to isolate the "Alien Scream" sound and actually make it with darn good quality.
Searching for "Sound Effects" w/ "Alien" on Google is an effort in futility and frustration.
I am wondering if there would be any chance of someone having a link or even being able to isolate the "Feedback Hum" with the same quality as Mark did w/ the Alien Scream? I am not a sound engineer nor do I have any type of equipment/application/experience to do such a thing.
The effect is the sound that is emitted in the US Trailer at about 1:11 (When Shaw says "Prometheus, are you seeing this?"). This "Feedback Hum" is also used in the original Alien, I believe as a proximity effect when Kane moves his hand through the mist over the eggs (I could be wrong as to this being the place for it).
This is one of those sounds that can be immediately identified if you know of the movies... and I've been looking for it for quite awhile w/out any luck.
Anyway, thanks!

MemberOvomorphApr-06-2012 8:17 PMI saw from a one the "making of" segments from one of the Alien movies that the high-itched alien sound was made from a musical instrument called a Water Harp played with a violin bow. You can see one here: http://www.shook.fm/content/2009/08/leaving-records-adventures-in-sound/
I don't how they make that other sound.
I thought they were using a lot of sounds that were distorted, slowed down and then pitch shifted up to get that grainy sound.

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2012 12:13 AMI would be able to do it if Shaw wasnt talking over the beginning bit. It would only take a few seconds to do and all you need is a free sound editing program called Audacity and a double ended audio wire like this -

You just play the youtube video and record the audio in Audacity, then edit it how you please. Really quick and simple.
If you want to export the sound file to an .mp3 file instead of a .wav file then you will need the MP3 Plugin for Audacity....its called LAME MP3 Encoder

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2012 6:43 AMYup its really hard to isolate an original recording...........bit like taking the eggs and flour back out of a cake. Biomechanic has a better idea of just recreating the sound.
