MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 11:55 PMHi all, im new and this is my first post hope it provokes some interesting thoughts! Anyway here is my take on the SJ's Bio-suit/Armour:
Toward the end of the scene in the Derelict ship where we were first (briefly) introduced to the 'Space Jockey' , right before Kane descends into the egg silo, specifically in the shot where we get a slow zoom-in on the Jockey's face/helmet, has anybody else watching ever had the feeling, despite looking slightly fossilised AND not to mention the huge gaping Zeno-hole in its chest, that somewhere in those fossilised remains was still a conscious being?
Even back when I still thought that the SJ was some kind of exo-skeletal elephantine paraplegic beast and NOT just some lanky blue humanoid in a bio-suit, when i see the afore mentioned zoom-in shot I would get a chill down my spine and think to myself 'what if that thing is still alive?' (as if everything about the scene on the derelict ship isn't chilling enough)
So, now that we can pretty much say that the jockey IS a humanoid in some kind of bio-mech armour, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the conclusion to Prometheus suggests that the Jockey WAS still alive when we saw him in Alien, possibly in some sort of stasis.
Maybe the Jockey uses the Bio-suit as a means to sustaining their life in the event of Zeno-impregnation, or maybe the Zeno embryos are transferred via the Bio-suit and they spend eternity churning out the little chest bursting buggers we're all dying to see, this idea also ties in nicely when paralleled to the greek myth with the eagle and the self-regenerating liver. And I suppose if the last idea turns out to be right that would make the SJ's Bio-suit the original facehugger or 'bodyhugger' lol! They even said in Alien that Kane's facehugger was 'keeping him alive'

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 12:36 AMI got that impression from Alien as well. That long shot of the SJ all alone there was pretty creepy. Just sort of hammered home how completely unknown that thing was. And now Riddles is going to ruin the whole thing by making it a big blue man in a suit. Wah wah.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 12:40 AM Kinda cool thought,the last scene of the movie is a light shining and dallas' face peaking through.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 5:14 AMPretty sweet thoughts, although in the end I think it's more a cinematic device..."I've had this happen to me and now it's going to happen to you..." the eternal brooding, knowing glance that only experience can bring.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 6:15 AMHad a similar idea jump into my head earlier today!

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 10:14 AMI think that it will be more about the ship somehow. That the Jockey being a tool of the ship rather than the ship being a tool of the Jockey. The jockey and other creatures being a part of it's biological processes. In Giger's original designs the ship gave birth to the eggs.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 10:39 AMI actually started a thread on this last week: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/2865. Yeah, I agree with you. I like the idea that the original SJ was all alone on that ship suffering a horrible fate as a punishment. It makes it even more creepy and lonesome.
Also, I definitely don't think we know with any certainty that the SJ is just a humanoid in a bio suit. A lot of people think there are at least two different, but related, intelligent ETs in this film. Many even think they are or were at war. A lot of people also think there is some creature or race that we've had no glimpse of yet.
Thoughts?

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 12:21 PMI always had the impression in that scene that when the camera fades into the SJ´s face that he is looking..might be a camera thing..;)

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 12:51 PM@WhyDontTheyFreezeHim,
You sure the idea didn't latch onto your face earlier today?
@OP,
It's not a bad idea, but not necessarily something I want to see in Prometheus. We have the "8 minutes of Alien (film) DNA" at the end of Prometheus, and I just don't want the DNA to be that blatant.
Fall down seven times, get up eight.
