However, I've seen 2 major 'assumptions' that I don't think should be taken as true, especially given the newest IMAX trailer content.
1. A lot of the discussions on possible plotline/plot points seem to assume that the trailers are showing clips in the order they appear in the movie. While it's true a lot of movies lately give the "Cliffs notes" version of the movie by doing this, I don't believe Mr. Scott is showing a synopsis of the film in these trailers. We are seeing bits in piece snipped together, but I don't believe any of it is in the order it happens in the movie. While the 'discovery' on earth of the pictograms, and the resulting trip is obviously the beginning of the film, all the 'action' sequences are most likely mashed up in a different order than they occur in the film. I'd even venture that the blantant 'off sequence' order of the IMAX trailer was done in an effort to point this out, for those that might not go see the film because they assume they know what is going on (showing Vickers with the flame thrower in the first few seconds).
Secondly, while there is some heavy symbolism possible with the title of the movie, and the tie-in with the TED talk regarding the myth of Prometheus, I also do not think the creator of this film would be so heavy handed as to have Mr. Weyland so focused on the concept of Prometheus as the man punished for taking fire from the gods, and then having a SHIP named that to go on an expedition to have an analogous occurance happen to those involved. It is more along the lines of what George Lucas would do - and then have a character say "Look, that creature - it eats it's way out, and then heals the victim - just like the myth of Prometheus. That's the NAME OF THIS SHIP!". While I am sure this won't happen, any forced overlay of the myth onto this storyline would take a lot of coincidences, and it would just be soooo overly predictable to do this, at least in my opinion.

MemberDeaconApr-11-2012 11:54 AMIndeed its hard to peice what order this movie goes via the Trailers.
All we know for sure is the finding of the cave paitings and the meeting showing the links with findings in other ancient civilisations scenes are the begining of the movie or will take place as part of the first 10-15 mins.
And the scene of the Derelict Ship being hit by Prometheus to stop it taking off and then crashing to the ground as the last 20-15mins of the Movie.
The Other scenes its hard to tell what Order they come, one interesting one is Holloway, as we see the Scene of him with something in his eye, and i think thats got to be after the scene where him and shaw get it on, he gets up in morning looks in the mirrior and notices something in his eye. Or maybe this happens before they get it on.
This shows he was not aware that something has infected him and potentially passed onto Shaw.
The latter scene shows Holloway all Swollen up trying to get back into Prometheus with his hand up, as if saying he is ok. Surely this mutation is after the Shaw/Holloway Bed Scene.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 12:27 PMPeople have been hypothesizing and theorizing until they're blue in the face; I say all that is pointless beyond what we can see from what has been released. The movie has already been made and it's awaiting release. Nothing that we say is going to change what's already been done.
I agree that a forced analogy of the myth would be a little stupid and heavy-handed, but I don't see any reason why the producers wouldn't do it. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it could.
I honestly have no idea what's going to happen (nor do I really care--at least, right now--June 7th will be a different story).
Ultimately, the film makers are going to make the movie that they feel would generate the most sales, not necessarily what will be artistically genuine. People give Ridley Scott WAY too much credit for creating Alien and being some kind of genius master, when it was really a collaborative effort.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 5:43 PMGood point, Xenotron, but I still don't think Alien would have been as good as it was had Ridley not directed it. The script was great, but imagine if a film such as Alien was released now; the suits would probably get somebody such as Michael Bay to direct it. Of course, it wouldn't work, but I'm just saying..
