I'm going to say B) bad guy based on Shaw saying we were wrong (ie not invited) and Prometheus ramming the derelict

Yeah I'd say he is THE BAD GUY. Actually.....I have this feeling he might set a new standard for "the BAD guy".......I am like everyone else in that I have extremely HIGH hopes that PROMETHEUS will be the next and ultimate EPIC.....

So would you say the cave drawings etc were misinterpreted and are in fact a warning?.......... A similar situation as the beacon in Alien??

gotta go with "D" and would like to elaborate. I think every and any race the crew of the Prometheus bumps into on this lovely Journey is going to be Pure and Simple non holding back 1 fraction of terror bringing EVIL beyond any of our imaginations.

I'm going with A cause A is for Ashole, just kidding. It's most likely that He appears evil but deep deep down under that reptilian skin is someone warm and fuzzy

D) Listen if you like a good beef burger then a cow is gunna think you are an arsehole, but you simply think 'sorry my old tasty yummy friend you're just meat that's all'. So if they are intending to kill us does that make them bad? If they want something we have and they are technically above us in the food chain, so to speak, then they will take it and not really think they are doing anything bad the same way we likes a good burger! HMMMMMM burgers for dinner me thinks..........

I'm saying that he is evil and that, furthermore, his middle name is Misery. I am baseing this on the teachings of Elvis Presley.

Maybe this is a cop out, but I say E) all of the above. A ) SJ might initially treat the crew with benevolence. B ) SJ unleashes wrath initially, serves a heaping second helping after crew steals his mojo (though he never really lost it, he had it all along). C ) He has his own motivations for helping/hindering the crew, detached from the whims of other possible SJs in the film. D ) His plane of existence/consciousness is immeasurable to the comparably ant-like human crew. Enter the SJ as having god-like qualities. It acts without impulse, a purer, more perfect form than humans. Kind of like the Alien (but not 100% like that, in my interprestation). I'm thinking of the concept of mushin, or Zen no-mindedness. Action through pure intuition, without the self corrupting the action.
Fall down seven times, get up eight.

@thefacehead And it's even worse than that. We go so far as to breed animals, keep them penned up, so that we can butcher and eat them later, and we do this on a mass scale. Bring them into the world solely to kill them. Quite the horror show. The SJs aggressive actions may well seem fair and compassionate compared to that.

@PER5E5 no i would say that the star maps were an invitation either by someone else or for some reason the invitation was revoked. We assume that that someone from the crew steals something from the SJs, but perhaps some ancient human stole something during the SJ visit and they were a little pissed off that we had the nuts to come and visit them

The movie demonstrated that the Engineers were not God-like, but that they were extremely advanced and narcissistic. It was also clear that the Engineers had a habit of creating weapons that they could not control and did not learn from precedent disasters, eventually leading to the creation of the Xenomorphs which exterminated the Engineers. The Engineers/Space Jockeys are simply the worst qualities of mankind amplified. Hubris personified. As sentient beings, they shouldn't be lumped together as "all-good" or "all-evil" but their culture is basically malevolent and oppressive to other sentient life forms.
