Waterfall saucer speculations.

In my opinion the saucer thing is going to play a big part in the movie. We only caught a glimpse of it, while having our attention diverted onto other details more than once. If this is not the case, then it will be something left behind, exactly like the Derelict and the SJ in Alien, but I don't think that Scott & co are going to repeat the mistake. Unless their plans are actually on a Prometheus prequel, rather than a sequel, but that seems silly.

I indeed to hope it has some more relevance than a mere footnote and in fact bares an important role in the whole mythology of the film. Its one of many areas i'm dying to know more about.

Its hard to get a sense of scale with the waterfall but i'm guessing its enormous.

Some of the other shots from the trailer of an under lit SJ ship suggest that this saucer houses the space jockey ship, other shots also seem to be them standing on it , shaw says "We wont have a home to go back to" on top of it I believe as it opens, at the same time the space jockey ship starts up its flying process, then the Prometheus flies into it and it comes crashing back down...from there who knows

Speculation ahoy.... The humanoid it leaves behind presumably is the humanoid in teh cave drawings - Weyland years later gets this information / steals it / or is the SJ in some way?, and in amongst curing cancer, inventing FTL, androids, at last gets teh opportunity to travel back to face the gods (in hiding) and cause mayhem. Gods knowtheir game is up, try to dispatch a cargo of our xeno friends to Earth - David (Weyland's son) prevents, doublecrossing his maker, SJ crashes, get sinfected etc etc

mmmmm all intriguing stuff and looking forward to finding out.

I think that we won't know till the last 10 of the movie. Out of everything that is hinted, noted, or shown in the trailers, the saucer scene I feel is the most open ended part of the film.

I think it will be part of a sequence showing the SJ's terraforming a planet.

Has anyone else noticed how gnarly the back of the "kings" head looks during the water fall scenes? Looks like someone went clawhammer on his dome.

[b]@alteredstate.[/b] Possibly! I remember in one of the original leaked "scripts" (probably a fake) BUT it stated that the opening of the film depicted a earth being terraformed. I think after the recent 15minute press screening that's probably off the table. I think the shot probably shows more Sj's arriving OR arriving to terraform LV-223.

Its hard to say when it appears in the film iv'e heard nothing to suggest its at the opening.

It's all going to depend on the position of that sequence in the film. What if that is not the beginning of the film. What if it's the end? Ha the maps were saying, um done here, we're going here next seeya!

@Constealltion88 - Yeah, I noticed that too. Looks like a little chunk has been taken out of his head and scarred over or something. I cant help thinking that the blue guy and space jockeys are different species(even though theres no evidence) and that the saucer is the blue guys ship and the derelict is the space jockeys ship. The 'style' of the two match that way. Space jockeys = good Blue guys = bad

@ whydontThey freeze him....If that is the case that would be very cool indeed and may account for the promise by ridley of showing something we haven't seen before . Another thing i cant help thinking about is this special project ridley has had Giger working on adding to the fact of the statement made that he is locking the best stuff away, or is the head design's his work / the interior of the head room and jockey chair is based on gigers work but what is this special project ? . i am positive that's what he has elaborated on sometime ago regarding gigers involvement but since that statement was made no one when given the opportunity has pulled him up on it.

The SJs are Prometheus, the blue guy is the Gods and humans are the eagle sent to annoy SJs and kill xenos using only our female warriors (as a token of disrespect).

If that's the case, then I can see how you may have thought this might be the 'saucer' opening up...but it's actually the GROUND in front of the 'pyramid' (or one of them anyway) that is opening up beneath Shaw in the trailer. And the 'space jockey' ship is below Shaw it seems as the opening serated 'plates' match the shape of the ones in the shot of the underlit shot of it. Personally, I'm hoping the 'saucer' ISN'T supposed to be the 'mothership' of the 'space jockey' ship(s?)...as it's derivitive round shape just doesn't seem as organically 'alien'-looking as the weird 'horseshoe'-shaped 'derelict'. So I'm hoping the 'saucer' belongs to a totally different race... Personally, I'm hoping that the 'saucer' ISNT some kind of 'mothership'...as it's familiar rounded design seems at odds with the very weird, organic-looking 'derelict' ship design. I'm hoping that they were created by 2 totally different races... i thought it would be funny if the saucer fit in the cranny of the SJ ship since its kind of a horse shoe shape. with their powers combined.... it creates captain planet! explains the blue-ish colored guy, captain planet just went bald is all. @ Gem]n[ - Man, the thought of this return to sci-fi surroundings by Ridley is exciting enough...but it would indeed be awesome if he DOES end up returning to this in a sequel too! Interesting that you think the 'ampule' urns may be linked to the 'saucer' originally. I'm not so sure about that, but that's an interesting possibility.

Pay attention people . . . to Ridley. Do any of you happen to recall the live interview he did on location in Iceland? You know, the place where this water fall exists? He was there on the final day of filming, but actually filming the opening sequence of the film, per his words. So what we see with the waterfall and the saucer is in the opening sequence of the film. Let the speculations continue . . .
